ICT (information communication and technology)

plays important role in teaching and learning enhances

productivity, efficency in education system

one of the learning tools for education

Ministry of Education provide infrastructure in school and train teachers to be good in ICT

SMART SCHOOL PROJECTThe Malaysian Smart School is a learning institution that has

systematically reinvented in terms of teaching-learning practice and school management to prepare for Information Age

one of the seven flagship applications that are part of Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Project

Government of Malaysia aims capitalise on the presence of leading-edge technologies and the raid development of MSC’s infrastructure

democratise education

produce a critical thinking learners through well developed ict skils

provide all round individuals development (intellectual, physical, emotional, spiritual )

increase participation of stakeholders

produce oppurtunities to enhance individual abilites and strength

to cultivate life-long learning based on ICT

teachers able to create interactive and interesting class mode

process of teaching and learning become interesting

usage of videos and images enhances the student’s understanding in certain topics

DISADVANTAGEShighly cost infrastructure

senior teachers not familiar with ICT and prefer to use traditional methods such as whiteboard

setting up ICT devices that tacks longer time

lack of staff training skills in ICT

keep updating with the pace of modern technologies

collects fund in constructing ICT’s lab in school

build more technical support specialists

provide early ICT programs for teachers

government gives continous supply of ICT components

upgrade equipment (hardware, software)

CONCLUSIONThere are many issues and challenges in integrating ICT in Malaysian schools but it can be advantegous for students in using ICT with a proper way as it gives many advantages to them especially in this globalisation era.
