The most exciting part is that thanks to Mrs Bernhardt and all her hard work the ipads are now up and running and although we have a few glitches to sort out, the students have been able to use them to assist in their learning. All the students now have access to the Department of Education's online portal and their own email accounts. With this in mind it is now a great time to re-visit our internet policy and digital devises usage across the school. The new policies will be issued next term and must be signed by a guardian and the student. The cyber-safety issue is one that we often hear about, but keep in mind that texting and instant messaging on other devises can lead to problems if the children are too young to understand the ramifications of sharing information. We are also mindful of the fact that our children often know more about the tricks of technol- ogy than we do so we intend to have a parent information session later in the year. Your support would be appreciated. A good website to work through together with your children (or just for your own knowledge) is https://budd-e.staysmartonline.gov.au/ teachers/primary/index/html As this is the last newsletter for the term we would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable April holiday. Parents can help their children by encouraging them to continue to read on a daily basis and put away some time to do Mathletics and Spellodrome activities. Although parents and children need a break from the fast pace of the school term it is important that they continue to learn and practice literacy and numeracy skills for continuity. You may like to register online to Khan Academy or Study Ladder for those that like to learn at their own pace or check out Hooda Maths for some fun but educational games. Happy Holidays. TRASH FREE TUESDAY’S

Starting on Tuesday 16 April, we encourage all families to participate in Trash Free Tuesday. We are hoping to reduce waste and packaging from students morning tea and lunches. Ideas:

• Use containers not packets.

• Put yogurt in small reusable containers

• No plastic, no wrapping

• Only food scraps which go to the worms will be left.

• Re-use your resealable plastic bags.

Lets work together to achieve zero waste!

As it was mentioned in our last newsletter, Little Grove Primary School is beginning to implement Kids Matter Primary. The action team have recently completed component one ‘Positive School Community’. Kids Matter Primary is a national initiative that aims to contribute to improving student mental health and wellbeing.

Mental health and wellbeing is vital for learning and life. Children who are mentally healthy learn better, benefit from life experiences and have stronger relationships with family members, school staff and peers. They are better equipped to meet life’s challenges and to contribute productively to their families, friends and society in ways that are appropriate for their age.

Good mental health and wellbeing is integral to academic learning. Mentally healthy students arrive at school ready to learn and are more likely to achieve academic success. They are more motivated learners, have fewer behavioural problems, and show greater commitment to their schoolwork. They are also more likely to experience success after primary school, with a greater likelihood of graduating and better prospects for constructive employment.

Schools are more likely to achieve goals related to learning and academic success when students’ mental health and wellbeing is prioritised and addressed with the same enthusiasm as numeracy or literacy. Schools that promote mental health are also more likely to engage more productively with their community members, reduce student behavioural issues and achieve higher levels of staff satisfaction.

Throughout this year the action team with the help of a whole school and community approach, will work on component one: ‘Positive School Community’. Respectful relationships enable the promotion of a sense of belonging and inclusion within the school community. Good mental health and wellbeing is integral to academic learning success.

You will find many interesting facts on the Kids Matter website: www.kidsmatter.edu.au/primary.

To be able to successfully implement Kids Matter it is vital for us to ensure that the opinions and concerns of parents and carers are taken into account. Please help us by going to the following link and completing the parent survey which asks for your perspective o n L i t t l e G r o v e P r i m a r y S c h o o l : www.kidsmatter.edu.au/primary/parentsurvey

Your responses are completely anonymous and they will help guide the planning of Kids Matter at LGPS. The survey will take approximately 10 min-utes to complete. Please complete this survey by Friday 19 April 2013. Let’s work together to create a Positive School Community.

Achieving Outside of School Students,

Have you done something that they are proud of ‘outside’ of school hours? Let us know and we will put your achievement on our new ‘Endeavour to Excel’ board in the library. To acknowledge and share your endeavours with the rest of the school.

You don’t have to be the best at everything – as long as you try your hardest and achieve your personal best.

Examples: Have you;

Earned a new scout badge. Scored points for your team. Caught your biggest fish. Hiked 5 kms. Baked a perfect cake. Completed a double flip at gymnastics. Joined a new group.

Tell us about it. Write a short description of what you have achieved and even send us a photo.

Tell the Library ladies or send an email to [email protected].

Parent Contributions

Thank you to those families who have already paid their children’s school contributions. If you have misplaced your account, just call into the office and we can reprint it for you. EFTPOS facilities are also available for your convenience. Funds collected from these contributions are used to purchase resources to help facilitate your child’s learning.

Easter Hat Parade Thank you to all the students who created wonderful hats to wear in this year’s Easter Hat Parade. It was wonderful to see so many fabulous creations. A big thank you to the student councillors, who organised this very enjoyable event.

Junior Visual Art Display

Mrs Bassett has been working with the junior students, who have completed some fabulous 3D insect artworks. These colourful creations are on display in the front office and in the Junior Prac space. Congratulations to all our very talented artists!
