Principal’s Message
Firstly a big welcome back to everyone. I hope that you were all able to enjoy the break
away from school. It has been great to see our students and staff members return to
school this week re-energised and ready for a super Term 4 of learning.
School Hats - No hats, No play.
A reminder that from last Tuesday 11 October it is a requirement that all students wear
their hats during break times, otherwise we ask that they sit in the shaded area in the
courtyard. If anyone needs a new hat, please purchase from the office.
Kinders in the Big Playground!
At lunch time on Tuesday and Wednesday, Mrs. Dawkins opened ‘the gate’ and our Kinder
students had their first lunch time play in the ‘big yard’. For all of Term 4, Kinder students
will spend Tuesday and Wednesday lunch times playing in the main playground as the
beginning of their transition into Prep next year. It was lovely watching our older students
buddy up with the Kinder students to start teaching them about how to play like an
Andrews Creek Shining STAR.
Student Free Day - Friday, 21 October
A reminder that Friday 21 October is a student free day. On this day teachers and teacher
assistants will be participating in valuable professional learning. We will be spending the day
looking at research and best practice around Numeracy and Problem Solving teaching
and learning strategies, and will be agreeing on whole school practices that will take us into
the future. Thank you to ACPS families for making this time possible.
Late Night 2017 Planning Session
On Tuesday 25 October teachers will be having a late
night session focusing on reviewing all aspects of our 2016
year and our School Improvement Planning Documents.
This will then be used to inform our 2017 planning.

We have had a very special task to do in Kindergarten last term. We have taken part in the Picasso Cow
Program learning about the importance of dairy and painting our very own fiberglass cow. We had some of
our buddies from 4/5AS help us by adding the dairy products that are painted on the cow but the rest we
did ourselves. We named our cow Sunshine and we are very proud of what we have accomplished with our
Picasso Cow!

Sun Smart Policy
ACPS is an accredited “Sun Smart” School. That
means students are required to wear sun-safe hats
that protect the face, neck and ears when outside
in Terms 1 and 4. Recommended sun-safe hats
include legionnaires, broad brimmed and bucket
hats. Baseball caps do not offer enough protection.
Our school hats are recommenced. Broad
brimmed hats, $8.00 and legionnaires hats,
$7.00 can be purchased from the office.
Students without a sun-safe hat or clothing must
play in areas protected from the sun. Thank you
for your co-operation with this matter.
Book Week Dress up
NOTE DATE CHANGE:
August 24th
Hanami Day On the last Wednesday of Term 3, Mrs Jackson organised a wonderful Japanese “Hanami”
activity with us at lunch time.
We started off the afternoon with the “Soran Bushi” Japanese dance that we had learnt for
the Dance Event. Chiai San from Japan came along and helped write our names in
Japanese. We had an origami station, Japanese toys and a colouring competition. We also
had a photo booth and staff and students enjoyed dressing up in Japanese clothes!
Thank you Mrs Jackson for all of your hard work making our beautiful cherry blossoms
from tissue paper and sharing with us some lovely Japanese
culture. Everyone had a wonderful time amongst the cherry
blossoms.

Comments from our Creek walk…..
I learnt that the green and gold frogs are nearly all gone.
I am learning about all the animals.
The Creek is really fun and educational.
Yesterday at the Creek we
learnt about paddy melons.
I like the Creek because of its
habitats.
The Creek was really muddy.
We touched the fake snake.
Skye jumped on the bridge
and it snapped.
At the Creek we learnt about
animals and where they live.
In the museum there were burrowing crayfish.
The Creek was really muddy!
It was cool in the museum.
We learnt about the tassie devil.
The best thing about the Creek is the nature.
We think the Creek was amazing.
Investigating If Fresh Water Crayfish Are In Danger by
5/6W
On the 13th of October, Dr Claire Hawkins, Andrew from Claws On The Line,
Phil who is retired but still comes to help, Ranger John who works for the
National Parks and Mr Thomas came and visited our school. We were
assisting them to look for burrowing crayfish. Each group was given a
specific area to find any sort of used crayfish burrows, chimneys, holes or
fresh burrows. This project is about saving the crayfish and to find out about
how many are left in Tasmania. We had to record how many crayfish are in
the area we were allocated. We learnt the crayfish in our area have eight
legs and that one pincher is bigger than the other. Dr Claire was really
impressed with our Creek area and she thought the population of crayfish
looked very healthy.
