Our Kindergarten students never cease to amaze me! Each morning, these children are ready for another day of learning at school, with their huge smiles and bright eyes…

From Principal Drew, to students who are reading and writing very confidently, students who ask really ‘un-google-able’ questions, budding artists, sign-writers, musicians and so much more… This week saw Kindergarten perform confidently, enthusiastically and competently, at their second Kindy Assembly. It is a credit to the three teachers, Ms Angela Curry, Ms Ariana Davis and Ms Katina Comino.

CONGRATULATIONS! You must be so proud!

ICAS Writing Students from Balmain Public School received very pleasing results when they partici-pated in the 2015 ICAS writing assessment. Students from Years 4 - 6 achieved above the Australian average. Data for Year 3 students was not shown as there were fewer than 10 students. All up, Balmain students received 1 High Distinction, 15 Distinction, 14 Credit and 7 Mer-it certificates. Overall, 50 students attempted the ICAS writing.

Congratulations to Mischa in Year 5, for her High Distinction result.

Three students from Balmain Public School competed at a regional level on Tuesday:

Ada R – 3rd junior girls 800mMatthew B – 4th 11 boys 800mLucy E – 6th junior girls high jump

CONGRATS on a wonderful result! The great news is that Ada will now compete at State level!

Happy Fathers’ Day

The rain was not going to dampen our ‘Father’s Day Breakfast’!

Lots of Dads (and Mums), turned up this morning to share a scrumptious breakfast with their children. What a terrific turn-out!!!

A huge THANKS must go to the P&C, who organised yet another wonderful community event!

It was terrific to listen to the Beethovens entertain us this morning, under the guidance of our Band Director, Naomi Robinson.

Wishing all our Dads a fabu-lous Father’s Day this sunday!

2 Brightsparks’ Colours of Light

Investigations…

2015 is the ‘International Year of Light’, so, to fit in with this theme, 2 Brightsparks studied a mini unit on ‘Light’ for science.

We were so lucky to have a former scientist and class parent, Natasha Foster, in our classroom, to teach the students a little bit more about the physics of white light.

The students participated in engaging, hands-on activities, organised by Natasha, to illustrate how white light passes through a prism, causing light to disperse into the spectrum of colours.

The students learned a great deal about light and thoroughly enjoyed making rain-bows on the ceiling of our classroom.

2 Brightsparks’ iPad Project Using Tellagami…

The students in 2 Brightsparks have been studying the book, ‘Mirror’, by Jeannie Baker, which compares the life of a child living in Syd-ney to the life of a child living in Morocco, Africa.

They have used the iPad app, Tellagami, to create avatars, or Gamis, to talk about life in each of these places.

2 Brightsparks stu-dents had to create

a background to represent either

Australia or Morocco and then record

their voice to make their character

speak.

Everyone has learned a lot about

how to present their knowledge in a

unique way.

If you can’t beat them…

(Education week)

It’s almost the end of another term and a lot has been happening. The art show was the big event and the students loved every minute of working on the art projects; both their insect art piece

and their glow-in-the-dark bugs.

– Mr Baumann

A massive thank you to the mothers who made everything possible for the art show; you are amazing and it wouldn’t have happened with-

out your help and artistic vision.

Mr Baumann & 3B thank you!

The finished bat cave. Great effort 3B!
