Student Reports Staff have been busy over the past few weeks assessing students to assist with the preparation of student reports for semester 1. All going well, these will be distributed to families next Friday, 17 th June. As previously advised, the reports this year will look a little different. A notice, outlining the changes in the new format, will be distributed early next week, prior to you receiving a report for your child. Pupil Free Day – Report Writing A reminder that this Friday, 10 th June, will be a report writing day and as such no children will be required at school. Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday Another reminder that Monday 13 th June will be a public holiday for the Queen’s Birthday. We hope you all enjoy this extra-long “long weekend” and get to enjoy the time together as a family, no matter what your plans may be. Visiting Performance On Tuesday afternoon all students will get to attend the second of our scheduled visiting performances for the year, which will be titled “Then and Now”. This will be a show based on some significant events in Australia’s history, which we hope the students will all enjoy. Baimbridge College Transition Day Next Wednesday, children in grade 5 have been given the opportunity to visit Baimbridge College, to gain an insight into what secondary school may be like for them from 2018 and on. This event is an important part of our transition program in helping prepare students for the next stage of their schooling, no matter which school they may be considering attending. Baked Potato Lunch Thank you to everyone who supported the grade 6 students’ Baked Potato Lunch last Wednesday, which helped them to raise $185.50 to go towards the cost of their grade 6 shirts. It was fantastic to have students from Panmure Primary School join us on the day to help prepare lunch and to also do a bit of work in our garden. Our visitors were provided with cuttings from our raspberries and strawberries which they plan to now put into their own vegetable gardens back at their school. Our grade 6 students will be hosting another lunch early in term 3, either a vegetable or a pumpkin soup, which students in grades Prep, 3, 4, 5 and 6 have made in kitchen classes

during the first part of this term. Lions Coins for Kids This annual event, held in conjunction with the Lions Club of Macarthur and District, will take place on the last day of this term, Friday 24th June. The Lions Club will also put on a BBQ lunch for all students on this day. I ask that you please start collecting coins (or continue

doing so) for this worthwhile cause. The Lions Club of Macarthur and District have been great supporters of our school and earlier this year donated $1,200 to go towards the replacement of our existing basketball towers,

and we once again look forward to working with this local group to support others in need. Have a great week! Ben Kelson Principal

The Macarthur (Corangamite) Library

ARTISTS OF THE WEEK We had another busy time in the art room this week. The first of our awards went to Grade Prep student Georgie, for her wonderful painting entitled “If I could have any animal for a pet.” Georgie carefully painted a great zebra and thought a lot about painting the background. Well done Georgie. With the arrival of Winter, Grade 1/2 used oil crayons to draw a rainy picture. Well done to Pab (Gr.1) and Lennon (Gr.2) for their great patterned umbrellas and their wonderful drawings. The final awards went to Grade 3 students Zoe and Maddison for their colourful ‘Gooney Birds’. Both girls displayed considerable skill in creating their

clay birds and put a lot of care and effort into their paint work to finish their art piece. Well done girls. Anne McNaughton

MARC Program Newsletter Wow, we’re almost half-way through the year already! The students have been working hard on Woolly West Fest activities. The lower grades have been making touch and feel books. These books have the theme of ‘That’s not my sheep, its wool is to …’. The books are filled with paper of different textures and the students have developed their vocabulary by using many words to describe the different papers. Some schools are reading the books to their local kindergarten students while others are allowing students to take them straight home to read to younger siblings, relatives or friends. The older grades have been redesigning the covers of children’s books to include a sheep as the main character. I’ve seen many imaginative front covers throughout the previous fortnight and look forward to reading the blurbs the students write for their back covers. Lots of knitting has also taken place on ‘Big Nancy’ (a giant version of a Knitting Nancy) and the students have been excited to see how much

wool they can knit during their lesson.

New Books! The last month has seen the arrival of even more new books. The new selection includes a variety of non-fiction and fiction titles. There are several graphic novels in the new arrivals, novels and beginning chapter books for the younger students. If any students know of a book that isn’t on the truck but they think it should be, please let me know and I’ll do my

best to purchase a copy.

WHO AM I? I was born on March 5th, 1946. My first children’s picture book was published in 1983. Some of my most famous books were illustrated by Julie

Vivas. My books include Possum Magic, Where’s the Green

Sheep?, A Giraffe in the Bath and The Magic Hat. My first name is Mem.

Borrowing There are still many overdue or missing books. I will be handing out overdue notices during the last two weeks of term and if your child receives one, please help your child to locate the book. It is great we have so many enthusiastic borrowers, however it must be remem-bered that other children wish to borrow books so it’s

important they are returned on time. If your child has lost or damaged a book, it is asked that you pay a $10 replacement fee to your school’s office so your child will be able to borrow again.
