MESSAGE

I am delighted to know that Indian School Muscat has taken aunique initiative of launching an e-magazine, showcasing the vividtalents and achievements of students and highlighting theimportant events happening in the school.

This laudable initiative will not only bring updatedinformation of school activities to the parents and students at aclick of their mobile or computer avoiding use of paper, but will alsocontribute to a safe environment. Initiatives like the e-magazineare the need of the day as our environment requires immediateattention from each of us. The overuse of paper is an environmentalhazard as huge amount of wood from trees is needed in itsmanufacturing process. Such innovative measures contribute topreserving our natural resources, giving us all an importantmessage of saving our planet.

It is heartening to note that Indian School Muscat has beenparticipating in various green environment projects aimed atcreating awareness among students about environmental issueslike deforestation, pollution, global warming, climate change, etc.

I congratulate Indian School Muscat for their noteworthyinitiative of launching an e-magazine and wish them all the best intheir future endeavours.

Best wishes,

P.O. Box 1727, Ruwi, PC 112, Muscat, Sultanate of OmanTel: (+968) 2468 4512/2468 4513, Fax: (+968) 2469 7591, Email: [email protected]

The BoD Chairman writes....

I am immensely glad to note that Indian School Muscat is

launching an e- magazine.

As the purpose of education, in today’s world, is grossly

undermined to a matter of getting marks and securing

good jobs, this type of initiatives is highly laudable.

Indeed, it stems from the realization that we cannot be

complacent merely with the academic achievements of our students. I hope attempts

like this will encourage our students and help them unleash their creativity and

talents.

It is also noteworthy that the magazine flambeaus the message “Save Our Planet

Earth” by not encouraging a print out of the journal.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Indian Schools in Oman, I wish this

initiative all success and congratulate the catalytic team working behind this

project.

Best Regards

Wilson George

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT , SCHOOL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Your school, your second home has a lot of expectation from

you, as you do from it. Shame to call the school “it” since the

“it” has a life, a life given by you, the students foremost and

sustained by your ever committed tutors, mentors, hand-

holders.

Your school is only one of the facets that mould you into a

complete person, your parents, teachers, elders, siblings, friends

make the other facets.

Many of you would have started in this “home away from home” as toddlers only to

leave its portals as handsome young men and women. Make your home, your parents,

your teachers proud.

Friendships, memories, experiences, successes and failures, all live with you forever and

as the years go by and you add to your years in age and experience, these will remain

vivid and vibrant in your memories.

Cherish your days in these hallowed portals and fulfill your dreams. But above all

respect your parents for what they have given you and your teachers for what they

give you unconditionally.

You may not like everything you study, you may not be successful in everything you

do, but failing (or not succeeding) is also an experience and each of these take you

forward, though it may not seem so at the time. JK Rowling's first Harry Potter book

was rejected before it was finally published. Michael Jordan did not find a place in his

high school basketball team. Charles Darwin was told by his father that he would

amount to nothing and would disgrace his family. Beethoven’s music teacher told him

that he was a hopeless composer.

I am in no way glorifying failure but do not let failures dishearten you as long as you

show commitment.

Above all, enjoy your school.

Dr Avirat Vaishnav

From the Principal’s desk …..

At Indian School Muscat, we are out again with another new

channel, an E-Magazine to showcase the vivid attributes of our

students. It will display a potpourri of talents of our enthralling

young minds.

But why an E-Magazine?

Change is the paradigm. E- Magazine will just be a click away

with an eco friendly objective behind.

We realize that our students only need a platform to showcase their talents and from

then on the stage is theirs. We want to provide yet another opportunity to the students

wherein they establish themselves before they set foot on their long and prosperous

journey of life.

I would like to tell all my students that Indian School Muscat is proud to have them

here for who they are and wants to show the world what fabulous students it beholds!

As this initiative is undertaken to bring to light the varied hidden talents of all our

students, may I urge all the parents to lend a supporting hand by motivating the

children and partake in this joint venture.

Everyone has talent. What's rare is the courage to follow it to the dark places where it leads.

Indian School Muscat has achieved yet another milestone by obtaining an average achievement higher

than the international average of 500 points in the TIMSS 2011 Grade Four and Grade Eight Science and

Mathematics Tests. ISM has also obtained a similar achievement in PIRLS 2011 Grade Four Reading

Test.

TIMSS 2011 is the fifth in IEA’s (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement)

series of international assessments of student achievement dedicated to improving teaching and learning

in Mathematics and Science. TIMSS reports every four years on the achievement of fourth and eighth

grade students. A number of countries participating in TIMSS 2011 will have trend data across

assessments from 1995 to 2011.

A globally cooperative enterprise, TIMSS conducts comprehensive state-of the-art assessments of

student achievement supported with extensive data about country, school, and classroom learning

environments. More than 55 countries participated in TIMSS 2011. TIMSS participants share the

conviction that comparing education systems in terms of their organization, curricula, and instructional

practices in relation to their corresponding student achievement provides information crucial for effective

education policy-making.

The Ministry of Education, Sultanate of Oman congratulates ISM on this unique achievement. The

Principal, Mr. Srinivas K. Naidu, the members of the school managing committee and the entire ISM

fraternity have expressed their immense joy over this milestone.

ISM PRESENTS SCINTILLATING PERFORMANCE AT MUSCAT FESTIVAL

About forty students from the Middle Section of the Indian School Muscat presented a short interpretative

dance at the Al Amerat Park on 3rd

February 2014 as part of the ongoing Muscat Festival. It depicted how

man’s growing needs and greed have brought about large scale destruction of the environment, as also in

the quality of his own life. In a power packed performance, both the dancers and the narrators

attempted to show us the wisdom in coexisting peacefully with all of nature’s creations. The vibrant

performance served as an eye-opener and was highly appreciated by the audience. Mrs. Siddiqa Al Lawati,

programme convener appreciated the show and was of the opinion that it was one of the best coordinated

and choreographed shows with a message.

The team was trained by Ms. Bharati Banerjee and Mrs. Smita Sinha, teachers of the Middle Section and Coordinated by Mrs. Bindu Menon under the valuable guidance of the Vice Principal, Mr. Jacob Zacharias. The props were prepared by the art teacher Mr. Sajeev M.D. and supported by nine teachers of different departments.

TRANSFORM TO PERFORM Hopes and dreams are made for us. Only human mind has great potential for dreaming and pursuing those dreams into reality. So we encourage ourselves and others to aspire to fulfill our longings and desires. First parents dream for us then the dream is our own. Ordinary people

fail or fall short of the dreams due to circumstances and environmental factors but extraordinary ones challenge these tragedies into triumphs due to their mental mettle. Out of 2000 Athletes from 11000 schools under CBSE competed to fetch the medals at the National Athletic meet. It was a distant and impossible dream for Indian School Muscat to get into a medal tally as we are aware of the weather conditions in Muscat and the limited facilities of our school and it is vital to mention the academic pressure from parents and teachers are not conducive factors to perform to reach the pinnacle of sports. Yet our Champions with their coach relentlessly toiled and emphatically brought laurels to our school and joy to their hearts and the families. This event became an

everlasting and evergreen eureka in their lives to cherish. Humans are created with amazing and immense talents to explore in life. How often are we emulating these gifts in our lives? All the attractions are distracting you to transform to perform. Physicians advise us to exercise to feel happy and healthy. Scientists say that chocolates can boost brain power and pomegranate juice can keep our brain healthy,

yet we have come to know that we hardly scratched our brain enough irrespective of all the inventions and discoveries. One who fails to strap the dream will be bereft and swizz in future. Then what mantra or juice is available to execute our dreams to the full extend. Three C & Ds are vital syrup for any discipline to reach the epitome of success. First, Constant and Continuous and Consistent effort with Discipline, Dedication and Determination are important components and apps can be uploaded

into your system at any given time. Don’t dare to allow any negative virus into your brain at any cost to ruin the dreams. You can’t stop the bird

from flying around or over your head but resist them not to build the nest on you. Your thoughts, words and actions are like the waterfall to produce energy for your future. All these are important and dominant forces for your direction to travel. So your attitude must be Trans – formed to fly into a different altitude. At the same time, there are two equal forces that are acting upon you to believe in your ability or disbelieve in your capacity. Time is a non-stop rollercoaster which never waits. Before it becomes late start acting upon it now. Most of you live in the past events without realizing the present becomes the future. God’s biggest gift is the present. So try to make

use of it. If you fail to apply your sense, then it will be history and soon your future becomes a mystery. Our Champions earned the accolades for our school and added euphoria into our hearts. This remarkable achievement is written in the History of Indian School Muscat. What about you all? Do you want be a part of History? Rise up and believe in yourself. If you want to be an icon, learn to say I CAN change in the present for a

better and brighter future. Let your vibrant energy keep burning in till you reach the goal. I would like to conclude with a Chinese proverb “A thousand miles journey begins with a single step”.

A Warm Welcome This poem is written to you by your dear brother Because it is long since we've seen each other

But now that you are actually coming I feel like a happy bird that is humming

You are like a big leaf that's grown out of a tree I am still a small leaf, while you're learning to be

What do you want to be? An engineer, As you study, year by year.

I wish you were a king for me to bow As you do amazing things, I'd shout "Wow"!

But now that you have come, We all give you a warm welcome!

Every minute, a new moment,

So unique and so rare.

People, are to be met;

Places are to be seen.

New Knowledge is to be gained;

New methods are to be acquired.

Facing obstacles will not be tough,

But fun and joyful.

New challenges will be accomplished;

New discoveries will be made.

Awards and achievements are awaiting,

Things are to be learnt from mistakes.

New events, full of surprises;

New happiness, full of excitements.

Good moments will come along,

An Unheard Cry?

Tears were streaming down the little girl’s face,

while I stood there, unknowing how to offer her solace

Not being able, now,

to hear her cries, I went right up to the girl,

trying my best not to catechize

A part of her nose was badly scarred,

cutting deep into her cheek bones; her otherwise flawless skin now marred

She told me through sobs,

she was being bullied, forced to do inexplicable things,

only wanting to be freed

Being threatened to not tell anybody,

the result being the situation she was in now

They think it’s fun, don’t they?

To vent their anger on innocent people, to feel superior,

in that way?

They’re nothing but insecure, bound by walls of low self worth In need of help more than hate, wanting to be freed themselves
