Below is a sample timetable; this is general and the head teacher may change it due to

Salah times changing, logistics, etc.

Teaching Notes

So as you can see each lesson is 80 minutes long. You are teaching on three different levels

which are approximately spread within the following age groups.

6-8

9-11

12-14

It will be up to you to tailor the concepts to the classes at their levels.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All of the children are capable of grasping concepts. It is just how it is

explained. Please try to ingrain these concepts into the children. It is better for them

that we treat them in a mature manner and have an adult conversation with them.

Lesson Structure

An 80 minute lesson is to be split in the following way.

50 minutes

Islamic Studies (Topic of the week).

5 min

Break (if required)

25 minutes

Hadeeth memorisation

and review.

This has been altered from 60 minutes Islamic Studies, and 15 minutes hadeeth. The reason

being that the children are generally alien to memorisation (especially so in another

language) whereas in Islaam many concepts are based on memorisation. So they are

weaker in this regard as opposed to the understanding aspect.

Therefore the children are reliant upon you as their teacher for all of their memorisation.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the lesson:

I. 50 minutes Islamic Studies (Topic of the week).

o Teaching time is integrated with workbook.

o All notes and workbooks MUST be filled out in class

o A small recap at the beginning of the lesson should be given to re-inforce.

II. 5 minutes of break (if required)

III. 25 minutes of Hadeeth memorisation and review.

o 10 minutes of reviewing all previous ahadeeth

o 15 minutes of group reading of new hadeeth; whereby reading here is

continuous reading and repetition, reading the hadeeth 50 times or so, so that

they memorise it, followed by each one individually reading it.

Targets to Hit

Alhamdulilah as we are doing this for Allah’s sake then really we want them to know

everything. So conceptually they have to grasp all the material.

Now this doesn’t mean that they will memorise all the ayaat and hadeeth and numbers etc.

But they must know the main stems of the knowledge you have taught them. As for those

who are capable, then encourage them to memorise as much as possible.

The revision sheet which is given to them in order to prepare them for their final assessment

and includes these main parts they must learn and commit to memory.

So in summary

Islamic Studies

The details of the units in each level, is found in the Islamic Studies Level 1 Overview.

They must know the concepts

They must have heard and be able to understand the ayaat that support these

concepts

It is a bonus if they have memorised them in English and or Arabic or both

They must have learnt and memorised the names of Allah that you have taught

them. This is crucial to their Aqeedah, so pay particular attention to this.

Hadeeth

They must have memorised the majority of the hadeeth that they are taught this

term.

The minimum is to have them memorise 1 hadeeth every two weeks.

Aim to memorise one hadeeth every two weeks – making 6 hadeeth a term and 18

hadeeth a year.

They should know these in Arabic and English with their meanings understood.

A Muslim is calm, kind, gentle towards others. He speaks with the best of manners and

attempts to copy the Prophet Muhammad about whom Allah said:

عظيم خلق وإ نك لعلى

And verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) are on an exalted standard of

character. (Surah: Al-Qalam—64:4)

For Boys:

Jubba (Long shirt like thobe)

Trousers above ankles

For Girls:

Hijaab covering the head and hair

Abaya/Jilbaab lose covering over the body from the head downward so as not to

display any of her features

Learning your religion as a means of pleasing Allah

The Salaah, Jumu’a, Janaazah prayers, Qur’aan classes, lessons on tawheed, etc

The Etiquettes of attending the Masjid

We Have All Been Made By Allah

The teacher should read through this and understand as well as use this as a skeleton

for their lesson

The teacher must elaborate on the bullet points.

Blue capital writing is instructions to the teacher

The work is levelled, so not all is covered in each part.

Time for lessons is 50 minutes, with 25 minutes for hadeeth.

Use workbook alongside or after the work is done.

As a general rule all the Ayaat - Read with the children and get them to recite it, Then

get them to read the meanings and know the evidences.

The first thing we have to know is: Everything in this world has been made.

There is a creator behind everything.

So it is clear for us to understand that if you see something here then we must know that it

was created.

That creator is Allah – The One True God. So Allah means the one true God who we should

worship alone.

Allah is the creator – so this in Arabic is Al Khaaliq – This is one of the beautiful names of Allah.

Creator: A creator is the one that makes something

Creation: The creation is something that is made.

D I S CU S S :

So can you make things? Yes – you can make things: like cakes, clocks cards, cars.

People can make things. But we humans only make things out of the things that are... …

already here, the things around us! However Allah is The Creator – the first and the last. He

creates things from nothing, and only he can do that. He just says it ‘to be’ and what he

wants is created.

He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him), the Most High

(nothing is above Him) and the Most Near with his knowledge (nothing is nearer than Him).

And He is the All-Knower of everything. (Suraah: Al-Ĥadīd – 57:3)

He is the one that made everything from its origin. When there was nothing in the world he

made it: the Earth, the water, the trees the mountains.

Indeed your Lord is Allâh, Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days, and then He

rose over (Istawâ) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty). He brings the night as

a cover over the day, seeking it rapidly, and (He created) the sun, the moon, the stars subjected

to His Command. Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment. Blessed is Allâh, the Lord of

the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists)! (Surah al-A’raaf: 52)

Allah himself is the eternal – meaning that he has always existed. So he was not created by

anything or anyone. However us humans; we were born, and then when we grow old then

we die. We were made by Allah.

So Allah is Al-Hayy’ – The Ever living one - This is one of his beautiful names.

So why did Allah create us? The answer is to worship him

And I (Allâh) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone).

(Surah ad-Dhariyaat: 56)

What does this mean? Have you heard this before? This is the most important statement for

us to look at.

It means: None Has the Right to be Worshiped In Truth Except Allah Alone

So what did we learn before? Why are we made? To Worship Allah..

So nothing nor anyone at all, should be worshipped except Allah. So we do not worship the

sun, moon, any human, mountains not anything… We only worship Allah alone

AS K T H E S T U DE NT :

So why do we say this?

AN S W ER T H E M : Because as we learnt last time. Everything else has been created, but Allah is

the Creator. What is The Creator in Arabic? Al Khaaliq

So would you worship the Sun? No - because the sun has been created by Allah.

Allah created all these things – so we know that only Allah we will worship.

So what is it called when something is worshipped besides Allah? Answer Shirk… and one

who does this is a Mushrik.

There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong

path. Whoever disbelieves in Tâghût[] and believes in Allâh, then he has grasped the most

trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (Surah al

Baqarah : 256)

So Allah is the creator of everything, and so he is the Lord of Everything

لعـلمين ٱ رب لله لحمد ٱ

All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord [] of the 'Âlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that

exists). (Al-Faatiha: 1)

So Allah is our Creator, Our Lord, Our One true god who we is the only one we should worship

… So from this we can see something… that Allah has beautiful names that he is known by…

Allah chose to reveal the religion of Islam to a trustworthy man

What does the second part of the Shahaadah mean?

What is a prophet (nabi’) and what is a messenger (rasul) (literally and in the shariah).

There were other prophets before the Prophet Muhammad

Verily, We have sent the revelation to you (O Muhammad SAW)[] as We sent the revelation to

Nûh (Noah) and the Prophets after him; We (also) sent the revelation to Ibrâhîm (Abraham),

Ismâ‘îl (Ishmael), Ishâq (Isaac), Ya‘qûb (Jacob), and Al-Asbât [the offspring of the twelve sons

of Ya‘qûb (Jacob)], ‘Îsâ (Jesus), Ayyûb (Job), Yûnus (Jonah), Hârûn (Aaron), and Sulaimân

(Solomon); and to Dâwûd (David) We gave the Zabûr (Psalms). (163)

Muhammad (may Allah's peace be upon him) is not the father of any of your men, but he is the

Messenger of Allâh and the last (end) of the Prophets[]. And Allâh is Ever All¬Aware of

everything. (Al-Ahzaab: 40)

What’s in Makkah. “Makkah is a city in between four mountains. It was an important

place for the people to stop during their travels between the north and south. Show

them a map of the north (Egypt, Syria), and cities theer, and south (Yemen etc).”

The tribe who lived there worshipped idols. Link back to first part - Ask the children:

Make them learn the names properly (all parts they MUST know will be highlighted in

the following bullet points)

Repeat the information even letting them draw squares on board.

Tell it as a story and keep simple, as the rest will come.

Draw a square chart on the board.

His father was called Abdullah & his mother was called Aminah. His grandfather was

called Abdul Muttalib. Add their names to the diagram.

Muhammad became an orphan at a very young age

His father died before Muhammad was born and his mother died when he was just 6

years old.

So then his grandfather looked after him. But when he turned 8 years old, his

grandfather died.

after him.

So Muhammad grew up under his care and he was very honest and truthful boy. He

was known as al Ameen – which means the honest and truthful person. RE P E AT T H E

He was from a tribe of people known as the Quraysh. REP E AT I T WI TH TH E CL AS S . This

tribe worshipped idols.

When Muhammad was 25 years old, he married a lady named Khadijah. Repeat it

with the class.

Muhammad never used to take part in worshipping the statues along with the other

people who lived around him. Instead he would go to a cave (Hirah) to think about

When he was 40 years old, Allah revealed to him his message. AS K T H EM WH AT D O ES

AN S W ER : There is a famous shaykh called Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul Whaab. And he

explains to us “To bear witness that Muhammad is the Mesenger of Allah means to obey him,

in what he orders, to believe him in what he informs, to stay away from that which he forbids

and to worship Allah only in ways that are legislated(explain this word) in Islam.”

Allah tells us in the Qur’aan:

كمتبعونىٱف لله ٱتحبون كنتم إ نقل بب فر للهٱيح ي غ فور للهٱو ذنوب كم ل كم و رحيم غ

Say (O Muhammad (MAY ALLAH’S PEACE BE UPON HIM) to mankind): "If you (really)

love Allâh then follow me (i.e. accept Islâmic Monotheism, follow the Qur'ân and the Sunnah),

Allâh will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (31)

(Surah Ali Imran 3:31)

Say (O Muhammad): "Obey Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad (MAY ALLAH’S PEACE

BE UPON HIM))." But if they turn away, then Allah does not like the disbelievers. (Surah Ali

UPON HIM)) from the people of the townships, - it is for Allah, His Messenger (Muhammad

(MAY ALLAH’S PEACE BE UPON HIM)), thkindred (of Messenger Muhammad (MAY

ALLAH’S PEACE BE UPON HIM)), the orphans, Al-Masaakin (the poor), and the wayfarer,

in order that it may not become a fortune used by the rich among you. And whatsoever the

Messenger (Muhammad (MAY ALLAH’S PEACE BE UPON HIM)) gives you, take it, and

whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it) , and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in

punishment. (Al Hashr 59:7)

We learnt previously that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. What were the two things he

was sent with?

Now we will learn about the Qur’an.

What is the Qur’an???

It is the book Of Allah – and there were books sent before. This is the book of Allah

sent for all of mankind.

A miracle given to the Prophet – the Prophet Muhammad could not read, yet the

Qur’an is so nice and eloquent.

It is the speech of Allah. The Qur’an is the speech of Allah and it is recited. Speech is

an attribute. So if I say something then it is my speech right? In the same way this is

Allah’s speech.

However what is the difference? Well as we learnt in the first few lessons – then Allah is

the? – The creator (AS K F O R AR AB I C N AM E AL KH AAL I Q ) and we are? The creation. So

our speech is limited. Whereas Allah’s speech is not limited and it is eternal. So it is an

attribute of Allah – hence it is not created.

(HO L D UP A MUS -H AF AN D AS K what is this? The mus-haf – is where the Qur’an is written

down on paper. We should be careful with it and respect it, . The Qur’an is recited

and memorized.

The incident in the cave with Jibreel:

o As we know the messenger of Allah did not worship the idols as his tribe the

(AS K T H EM H I S T R I B E ) Qur’aysh did. Instead he would go to a cave C AL L E D (AS K I F

TH E Y K N O W) Hira. Here he would contemplate on Allah and his creation.

o When he turned 40 years of age, and during one of those days, something

amazing happened. An angel by the name of Jibreel visited him. He took a

hold of him and squeezed him so hard he could not breathe. commanding

him to read, but as we know he could not read, so he said “I cannot” – so the

angel squeezed him a further two times, then Allah put the Quran into the

heart of the Prophet Muhammad.

o He was very frightened and returned home to his wife (AS K H ER N AM E ) and

asked her to hold him.

o After this some time passed until Allah chose to reveal more of the Qur’aan to

him.

So this way Allah continued to reveal the Quran to his messenger – over a period of

23 years. It was brought by the Angel Jibreel to the heart of Muhammad (peace be

upon him).

Tafisr (Shaykh Bin Baaz):

Al-Hamdulillah: Al-Hamd is praising Allah with His perfect Attributes, loving Him, glorifying Him, and

exalting Him. Rabbil-Aalameen: Ar-Rabb is the worshipped King, the Disposer of affairs. He is the

Educator of all the worlds with all types of education. He is the One Who created them, provides for

them, and blesses them with blessings that are apparent as well as hidden.

Al-Aalameen: All that exists other than Allah Almighty.

Ar-Rahmaanir-Raheem: Two of Allah's Names that indicate that He is the Possessor of the vast

magnificent mercy that reaches everything, and embraces every creature. He is ArRahmaan, with a

mercy that is for all of His creation in this world, Ar-Raheem, with a special mercy for the believers. Allah

Almighty says:

And He is Ever Most Merciful to the believers." And He said:

Say: "Invoke Allah or invoke the Most Beneficent (Allah), by whatever name you invoke Him (it is the

same), for to Him belong the Best Names."121

Maaliki Yawmid-Deen: The One Who alone has control on the Day of Recompense and Reward, the

Day when everyone is rewarded for his deeds - if good, then the recompense is good, and if evil, then

the recompense is the same, except for he whom Allah Almighty pardons. He said:

And what will make you know what the Day of Recompense is? Again, what will make you know what

the Day of Recompense is? (It will be) the Day when no person shall have power (to do) anything for

another, and the Decision, that Day, will be (wholly) with Allah.'

Al-Maalik: He is the One Who is attributed the most perfect attributes of majesty by which the title King

is deserved. It indicates that He orders and forbids, rewards and punishes, dispensing with all matters in

the higher and lower worlds with complete control, with the rulings of Preordainment, of legislation, and

of reward. This is why He mentioned His Sovereignty over the Day of Recompense, which is the Day of

Resurrection, for on that Day, Allah Almighty will recompense the creatures according to their deeds

and Will give them a just recompense.

Iyyaaka Na`budu wa Iyyaaka Nasta`een: "You (alone we worship, and You (alone) we ask for help. We

worship none other than You, we seek help from none other than You when asking, and we rely upon

none other than You." This phrase signifies a covenant between the worshipper and his Lord -that the

worshipper will worship Him alone and seek help from Him alone.

Al-lbaadah (worship) is a comprehensive term for all that Allah loves and is pleased with; it includes

sayings and deeds that are both apparent and hidden.

Ihdinas-Siraatal-Mustaqeem: Guide us, lead us, and keep us on the straight path, the path in which

there is no crookedness, that is knowledge and application of the truth, both of which lead to Allah, His

Paradise, and His Generosity.

Siraatal-Latheena An'amta Alaihim: i.e.the path of those You have blessed with guidance and

facilitation to faith and righteousness. These are the Prophets, the truthful believers, the martyrs, and the

righteous.

Ghairil-Maghdhoobi Alaihim waladhDhaaleen: They are the ones who recognized the truth but

abandoned it. Following other than the path of the misguided one refers here to the ones who have

strayed from the truth. They have forsaken knowledge and so they wander in their misguidance without

being guided to the truth.

The Sunnah 35 minutes

So what is the Sunnah?

One day the prophet Muhammad stood up to address the people and one of the things he

said to them was ”I am leaving two things among you, and if you cling to them firmly you will

never go astray; one is the Book of Allah and the other is my Sunnah." (From the Farewell

Pilgrimage: Muatta)

The Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) was sent with two things: The first as we have

learnt is the Qur’an. The second is the Sunnah. The Qur’an is known as revelation. This is

something sent down by Allah. The Sunnah is also revelation from Allah

( ٤( إ ن هو إ لا وحى يوحى )٣( وما ينطق عن ٱلهوى )٢ما ضل صاحبكم وما غوى )

Your companion (Muhammad (may Allah’s peace be upon him) has neither gone astray nor has

erred. Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only a Revelation revealed. The Sunnah is the way or “Methodology” of the Prophet Muhammad. So we:

1. Believe what he believes

2. We worship Allah how he worshipped

3. We act as he acted

There are four different types of Sunnah:

What the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said.

What the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did.

What the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) approved or allowed or did not

allow.

The way the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) looked (his physical

characteristics) (such as his beard, etc) and his manners and ettiquettes.

We have read previously that there was a famous Shaykh called Muhammad ibn Abdul

Wahaab.

Ask what did he explain?

He explains to us “To bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah means to obey

him, in what he orders, to believe him in what he informs, to stay away from that which he

forbids and to worship Allah only in ways that are legislated(explain this word) in Islam.”

So how does it work?

At the time of the Prophet Muhammad there were people who believed in him. In Islam they

are known as (ask them) his companions or sahaabah.

They were the best of the people. Allah says about them in the Qur’an:

ة إخرجت للناس مرون بٱلمعروف كنتم خير إم كر وتنهون عن ٱلمن تا بٱلله وتؤمنون

You [true believers in Islâmic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad SAW

and his Sunnah] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma'rûf

(everything that is good)(i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm has ordained) and forbid

Al-Munkar (everything that is evil) (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islâm has forbidden), and

you believe in Allâh[Surah al-Imran [3:110]]

ـبقون لون من ٱلمهـجرين وٱلانصار وٱلذين وٱلس ورضوإ م ه رضى ٱلله عن ٱتبعوهم با حسـن ٱلاوإ ا ه وإعد لهم جنـت تجرى تحتها ٱلانهـر خـلدين في عنه إبد

ظيم ٱلع ٱلفوز لك ٲذ

And the foremost to embrace Islâm of the Muhâjirûn (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-

Madinah) and the Ansâr (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the

Muhâjirûn) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allâh is well-pleased with them

as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow

(Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success. [Surat At Tawbah – [9:100]]

جرة فعلم ما فى قلوب لقد رضى ٱلله عن ٱلمؤمنين إ ذ يبايعو كينة فانزل م ه نك تحت ٱلش ٱلس ايب قر افتح وإثـبهم م ه علي

Indeed, Allâh was pleased with the believers when they gave the Bai'âh (pledge) to you (O

Muhammad SAW) under the tree, He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down As-

Sakinah (calmness and tranquillity) upon them, and He rewarded them with a near victory,

[Surah Al Fath [48:18]]

So we know that Allah is pleased with them and happy with them. They were extremely

truthful and honourable.

They would listen to him and helped him, followed him and worshipped Allah alone

according to his laws.

These companions would be with the prophet Muhammad at different times. So some of

them were his wives, some were his friends and some were his family. They would be with him

sometimes when the Qur’an was revealed to him.

These companions understood the laws of Allah and what the messenger of Allah taught us,

better than anyone else. They then passed on all that they learnt as narrations or Hadith.

So what is a narration or Hadith: PRACTICAL

A Hadith is a narration from the companion that is written down about the Prophet

Muhammad; what he said, did, commanded or forbid, or how he was.

Narrated from Jaabir (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The messenger of Allah

(may Allah’s peace be upon him) said: “Do not eat with your left (hand) because indeed

Shaytaan eats with his left (hand).” - (Narrated in Muslim)

friends, his relatives.

What does Allah think about them: He is happy and pleased with them.

What do we know about them: They were the best of people, they were truthful, they

were honourable

The sahabah understood the Laws of Allah better than anyone else. They passed on

all that they learnt as narrations. What are these known as: Hadith

What is a hadith: A narration from the companion that is written down about the

Prophet Muhammad – what he said, did, commanded, forbid, or how he was.

A word on Abu Hurayrah 5 minutes

You will see this companion mentioned a lot

He narrated the most Hadeeth

He accompanied the prophet a lot and dedicated the rest of his life to learning from

him

He was known as Abu Hurayrah which means: Caretaker of the Cats

These hadith were compiled in Books of Hadeeth. Two of the most famous ones are known as

Sahih Al Bukhari & Sahih Muslim

The Importance of the Sunnah & Acting upon it- 30 minutes

We have learnt now how a hadith works. So we must understand that The Quran and Sunnah

are to be acted upon equally.

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace be upon him) said: “I have been given the

Qur’an and besides it, something similar to it.” (Abu Da`ud, Kitab al-Sunnah, Ch 6)

So how does the Sunnah work together with Qur’an?

Let us look at Qur’an for this… In the Qur’an Allah says:

ا وعلى إ وقعود لوة فٱذڪروا ٱلله قيـم لوة جنوبڪم فإ ذا قضيتم ٱلص نتم فإققيموا ٱلص مإن ذا ٱ لوة فإ ا ٱلصإ وقوت إ م كإت على ٱلمؤمنين كتـب

When you have finished As-Salât (the prayer - congregational), remember Allâh standing,

sitting down, and (lying down) on your sides, but when you are free from danger, perform As-

Salât (Iqâmat¬as¬ Salât). Verily, As-Salât (the prayer) is enjoined on the believers at fixed

times .(An Nisa’ 4:103)

And Allah also says:

لوة ٱلوسط لوٲت وٱلص ى وقوموا لله قـنتين حـفظوا على ٱلص

Guard strictly (the five obligatory) As¬Salawât (the prayers) especially the middle Salât (i.e.

the best prayer ¬ 'Asr).[] And stand before Allâh with obedience [and do not speak to others

during the Salât (prayers)].(Al-Baqarah 2:238)

And Allah says:

ہوٲت لوة وٱتبعوا ٱلش ياإ فخلف من بعدهم خلف اقضإعوا ٱلص و ل و ف

Then, there has succeeded them a posterity who have given up As-Salât (the prayers) [i.e.

made their Salât (prayers) to be lost, either by not offering them or by not offering them

perfectly or by not offering them in their proper fixed times] and have followed lusts.[] So they

will be thrown in Hell. (Maryam 19:59)

Ok so what do we learn from these ayaat about Salah?

That Salah is enjoined on the believers and commanded by Allah that the Muslims

should perform it.

That prayer is at fixed times

That we should be strict in these prayers and make sure we pray properly and on time

That there is a punishment for missing prayer and not doing them- “So they will be

thrown in Hell” – so we will be punished if we don’t pray.

Ok that is fine.

Say what do you start with? Takbeer, then? Etc Just generally until the end of the prayer.

But where did he get all that from?!?! It didn’t say in the Qur’an Say Takbeer, make rukoo,

read faatiha, make sujood, tasleem, stand ike this, etc…

So where did we get that from then? The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace be upon

him) said: “I have been given the Qur’an and besides it, something similar to it.” So we got

that from the Sunnah.

Because the Sunnah is? (Q UE S T I O N )

What the Prophet said, did, commanded, prohibited and how he was and acted. So the

Salah was shown by the Prophet himself to his? (Q UE S T I O N )

Sahaabah. The Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) said “Pray as you have seen me

pray.” Similarly Knowing that we should pray two rakaat for fajr, four rakaat for dhuhr, etc This

is known from the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's peace be upon him).

This is the case with many things, including wudhu, Salah, the kutbha and lots of other things

in our religion… So alhamdulilah our religion is a complete religion. We are told things by

Allah, we are shown and explained things further by the Prophet (may Allah's peace be

upon him) and the two things go together perfectly.

Allah said in the Qur’an:

إٱليوم سلـم دن اقكملت لكم دنكم واقتممت عليكم عمتى ورضيت لكم ٱلإ

This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have

chosen for you Islâm as your religion. (al Ma’idah 5:3)

This just shows to us how wise Allah really is. In fact Allah is knows as:

The Perfectly Wise- Al-Hakeem - الحكيم

The Knower of All- Al-`Aleem - العليم

Muhammad was sent to all the people of the world. Remember what Shaykh Muhammad

ibn Abdul Wahaab explained to us previously: “To bear witness that Muhammad is the

Messenger of Allah means to obey him, in what he orders, to believe him in what he informs,

to stay away from that which he forbids and to worship Allah only in ways that are

legislated(explain this word) in Islam.”

So whenever we do any act of worship then we must be sincere and make sure it is done just

as the messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace be upon him) did it. And we must obey the

Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) in whatever he commanded.

The prophet was sent with two things The Qur’an & The Sunnah.

The Sunnah is revelation from Allah

The Sunnah is the way or “Methodology” of the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's

peace be upon him). So we:

o Believe what he believes

o We worship Allah how he worshipped

o We act as he acted

There are four different types of Sunnah:

What the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said.

What the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did.

What the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) approved or allowed or did not

allow.

The way the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) looked (his physical

characteristics) (such as his beard, etc) and his manners and ettiquettes.

To bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah means

to obey him, in what he orders,

to believe him in what he informs,

to stay away from that which he forbids

to worship Allah only in ways that he showed us

The Companions of the Prophet 10 minutes

We learnt about the Prophet Muhammad and Hadith… Well as we know the aHadeeth

(hadeeths) were narrated by the Companions.

The companions were the best of people. So we must respect them and take our religion

from them. The Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's peace be upon him) said to us:

"When my Companions are mentioned then withhold" [Saheeh, at-Tabaranee].

And he also said, "Do not abuse(insult) my Companions, for if any of you were to

spend gold equal to (mountain of) Uhud in charity, it would not equal a handful of

one of them or even half of that" [al-Bukharee, Muslim].

And he said, "Whoever abuses my Companions, upon them is the curse of Allah, the

angels and all the people" [Saheeh, At-Tabaranee].

So we as Muslims do not:

Speak badly about them (we withhold),

Curse the companions,

Speak ill of them as we do not want Allah to be angry with us.

The companions set an example to us and we have to follow that example. So we will

practice our religion as they did. Allah is pleased with them and we want him to be pleased

with us.

There is a very famous hadith narrated from the companion Irbaad ibn Saairyah (may Allah

be pleased with him) and towards the end the Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him)

said:

“I advise you to fear Allah and to hear and obey (your leaders) even if an Abyssinian

slave were to rule over you. For whomsoever lives amongst you after me, will see

many differences so upon you is to follow my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly

guided caliphs after me. Stick to it and bite onto it with the molar teeth and be

warned of the newly invented matters for verily every newly invented matter is an

innovation and every innovation is misguidance.” [Sahih Sunan Abi Dawood no. 4607]

From this hadith it is clear that we must follow the sahabah (as the rightly guided caliphs were

companions of the prophet).

Some points to mention:

This hadith tells us to stick to the Prophet’s Sunnah. In fact bite onto it! So imagine you

wanted to bite onto something tightly, then we would grab it with our teeth hard

This hadith also tells us that we should obey the rulers and the people who rule over us

It also warns us that there will be many people or Muslims differing, and arguing, and

doing different things. So the Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) commanded

us that we should stick to his Sunnah.

So what are those different things? And why do people or Muslims differ?

We have seen that we should take our religion from The Qur’an, the Sunnah and how the

Sahabah understood it. So why do people differ then? They differ because they don’t all

stick to the Sunnah. They make up new things in the religion of Islam. These “new things” the

term in Arabic is “Bid’ah” (RE P EA T )

So making up new things in Islam… is this correct? No it is not because as Allah said to us

previously?

اٱليوم أكملت لكم دينكم سلـم دين وأتممت عليكم نعمتى ورضيت لكم ٱلإ

This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have

chosen for you Islâm as your religion. ( al Ma’idah 5:3)

As we saw in the hadith before from the companion Irbaad ibn Saairyah, the Prophet (may

Allah's peace be upon him) said “be warned of the newly invented matters for verily every

newly invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is misguidance.” [Sahih Sunan

Abi Dawood no. 4607]

So let us look at some of Allah’s names…

Allah is al Hayy which means?? The ever living… So he knows the future and the past…

He is al Hakeem which means?? The most wise…

He is al Aleem which means?? The All-Knower.

So if Allah knows everything, he is the most wise and all knower, and he told us that he has

completed our religion… then if me or you come along and say no we want to add more to

it… are we right?Are we more knowledgeable than Allah?! Subhaanallah! G ET T H EM T O S A Y

Allah is our creator, and he has completed our religion and we should not add anything

more to it.

So what is a newly invented matter? What is this “new” thing?

Does that mean we stay away from:

Using a phone? Because that’s new isn’t it?

Shall we stay away from and beware of driving a car?

How about using a watch?

No the newly invented matters here are the new things that are made up in the religion of

Islam, which the Qur’an does not legislate, nor did the prophet Muhammad do or say those

things (may Allah's peace be upon him).

Does anybody know of anything like this?

There are also people who celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah's

peace be upon him).

Firstly: Is celebrating the birthday of the Prophet in the Qur’an anywhere? No

Secondly: With the Salaah we saw that more detail is in the hadith so is it in the

Hadith? No there isn’t one sound proof for this.

Thirdly: But we know that the companions had the best understanding right? So if it

was good they would have done it. So did any of the companions do it? No

So we can see now that this is something the people have invented. This is a new

thing a bid’ah.

I have with me a pile of books. These are your Arabic books. In them there are lots of

pictures. We learnt last week that Islam is a perfect and complete religion. Does anybody

remember the ayah?

Allah said in the Qur’an:

اٱليوم أكملت لكم دينكم وأتممت عليكم نع سلـم دين متى ورضيت لكم ٱلإ

This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have

chosen for you Islâm as your religion. (al Ma’idah 5:3)

Allah wants good for us, and he wants us to stay away from bad things. We also learnt that

we must obey the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace be upon him).

There are some ahaadith (plural of hadith) that we need to look at therefore today briefly.

These will explain to us a few things regarding pictures.

Simplify these hadith as a story, not too strict just yet.

Hadith 1

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (may

Allah's peace be upon him) said

“Allah the Most High said ‘And who is more unjust than he who tries to create like my

creation. Let them create an atom, or let them create a seed or let them create a grain

of barley.’”

(Narrated in Bukhari and Muslim)

Hadith 2

It is also recorded from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Allah’s Messenger

(may Allah's peace be upon him) said

“The people whose punishment will be the most severe on the Day of Resurrection will

be those who tried to Imitate Allah’s creation” (Narrated in Bukhari and Muslim)

Hadith 3

It is recorded from Ibn ‘Abbas that he heard the Messenger (may Allah's peace be upon

him) saying

“Every picture maker will be in the Fire, and for every picture he made a soul will be

made for it and he will be punished in Hell.” (Narrated in Bukhari and Muslim)

Check their understanding:

Do we all understand these ahaadith?

So what is prohibited in these ahaadith? Making Images, or pictures.

What is the Arabic word for picture making? Tasweer.

What kind of pictures does this apply to? This applies to all forms of pictures, whether

they are hand drawn, painted, made of 3d or clay or photographs.

Will you get punished for making pictures of inanimate objects such as cars, trees

etc? No. This applies only to those things created by Allah that have a soul in them,

such as humans, animals, etc

What is the punishment for this?

So insha’Allah we will stay away from making pictures ourselves.

However what happens when we have these pictures in our houses?

Narrated from Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), according to which the

Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“The angels do not enter any house in which there is an image.”

However we want the angels to enter our houses and we want good from Allah. So what

can we do with these images?

It is recorded from Abu Al-Hayyaj that Ali’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said,

“Shall I not dispatch you the same mission that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah's peace be

upon him) dispatched me? It is that you do not leave any picture except that you erase

it and no elevated grave except that you level it”

Ali’ ibn Abee Taalib (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a companion of the

Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace be upon him)

Alhamdulillah! So it is important for us to erase or scribble out all the pictures of faces, animals

or creatures that have been drawn in some books that we may have bought.

The Hadeeth of Jibreel. 15 minutes

First read the hadeeth as a story. E.g:

One day the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace be upon him) was sat with a

group of his companions.

They were sat together as good companions do.

One of the companions’ names was ‘Umar.

He was a very brave and noble companion.

He told this hadeeth to us.

Whilst they were sitting, something amazing happened.

A man came to them

This man was a stranger to them – none of them had ever seen him before. He wore

beautiful white clothing, etc.

Umar ibn Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

As we were sitting one day, with the Messenger of Allah وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل a man

suddenly appeared. He wore pure white clothes and his hair was dark black - yet there

were no signs of travel on him, and none of us knew him.

He came and sat down in front of the Prophet وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل placing his knees against

his (knees) and his hands on his thighs. He said, “O Muhammad! Tell me about Islam.”

The Messenger of Allah وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل replied, “Islam is to bear witness that there is no

god worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah ; and to

perform the prayer; pay zakat; fast Ramadan; and to perform Hajj to the House (Ka’bah)

if you are able to.

The man said “You have spoken the truth” - and we were surprised that he asked and

then confirmed the answer!

Then he asked, “Tell me about belief (iman).”

The Prophet وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل replied, “It is to believe in Allah; His Angels; His Books; His

Messengers; the Last Day; and in Qadr (destiny) its’ good and bad.”

The man said, “You have spoken the truth. Now, tell me about Ihsan.”

The Prophet وسلم لہوا ہیعل ہللا یصل replied, “It is to worship Allah as though you see Him; and

if you don't see him (and know you won’t be able to see him in this world), (know that)

He surely sees you.”

“Now, tell me about the Last Hour (the Day of Resurrection)” asked the man.

The Prophet وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل replied “The one asked knows no more of it than the one

asking.”

“Then tell me about its signs” said the man.

The Prophet وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل replied, “That slave women give birth to their mistresses

(masters); and that you see barefoot, unclothed, shepherds (Bedouins) competing in the

construction of tall buildings.”

Then the visitor left, and I (Umar) waited a long time. Then the Prophet ( وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل

asked me, “Do you know, Umar, who the questioner was?”

I replied, Allah and His Messenger know best. He (may Allah's peace be upon him) said

“It was Jibreel. He came to you to teach you your religion.”

[Sahih Muslim]

The five Pillars of Islam 15 minutes

Now get the children engaged with in the text of the Hadeeth

So this man who came to ask the Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) was Jibreel.

Jibreel is an angel. You all may know what an angel is. If you don’t then we will come to that

next week insha’Allah.

So what was the first question he asked him ?:

“O Muhammad! Tell me about Islam.”

And what did the Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) reply?

“Islam is to bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship and that Muhammad is

the Messenger of Allah; and to perform the prayer; pay zakat; fast Ramadan; and to

perform Hajj to the House if you are able.

So let us imagine that this roof here – this is Islam

Now with a roof you need to hold it up right? So what are the things called that hold things

up? Pillars. A pillar holds something up.

Give them a pract ical example.

So we are going to draw pillars here. Now from just this hadeeth we are going to take out the

five pillars of Islam.

Ask them to extract them and wri te them in.

1) The Shahadah

2) The Salah

3) Zakat

4) Fasting

5) Hajj

So today we are going to cover the first two pillars. The first should be really really easy for

you! As we have done it before. We will cover the rest next week insha’Allah.

As the they have done the Shahaadah we can do a review l ike exercise on i t

only.

1 - The Shahaadah

The Second Pillar - The Salaah 20 minutes

The prayer is the second to only the Shahadah. It is the most important pillar after it.

The first deed you will be asked about on “yawm al qiyaamah” (the Day of Resurrection is

the prayer.

The Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) said: “The first thing for which a person will

be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayer. If it is sound, he will

be successful, and if it is lacking in any way, he will be doomed. If his obligatory prayers

are lacking, the Lord will say: “Look and see whether My slave has any voluntary prayers

which may be used to make up what is lacking in his obligatory prayers.” Then all his

deeds will be examined and dealt with in the same way.’” [Sunan al-Tirmidhi no. 413;

see also Saheeh al-Jaami’, 2020]

In fact the prayer is what distinguishes you as a Muslim from the disbelievers.

Narrated from Buraydah (may Allah be please with him): The Prophet (may Allah's

peace be upon him) said “The covenant between us and them is the Salaah; whoever

leaves it has indeed disbelieved.” (It was recorded by Imam Ahmad and the Sunan

Compilers with an authentic chain of narration.)

So why is the prayer so important? Well in the hadith:

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Messenger (may Allah's peace be upon him) "If

there was a river at the door of anyone of you and he took a bath in it five times a day

would you notice any dirt on him?" They said, "Not a trace of dirt would be left." The

Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) added, "That is the example of the five

prayers with which Allah blots out (annuls) evil deeds (erases sins)." (Sahih Al Bukhari

Volume 1, Book 10, Hadith # 506)

So as we can see that we commit sins, yet the prayer gets us to remember our Lord who

created us regularly throughout the day. So we can return to him and be cleaned of our sins.

Further to that it is a link and special bond that the Muslim has with his Creator.

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace be upon him) said "When one of you prays

he speaks confidentially to his lord" (Bukhari and Muslim.)

So we are having a private conversation with Allah! The one who made us. The Mighty One,

who controls all of our affairs. Would you not want to be linked with your creator all the time?

So the Prayer is a duty which for us as Muslims is a joy and happiness. If you perform it, it will

bring calmness to you. And makes you feel relaxed.

As the Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) said "My Joy (and tranquility) has been

made in the prayer." (Ahmad and An-Nasa'i)

Performing the prayer also keeps you away from harm and evil, and from doing bad things.

As Allah says:

لوةٱواقملكتـبٱمنا ليكاوحىما تلٱ لوٱا نلص ولذكرلمنكرٱولفحشا ءٱعنتنهى ةلص تصنعونمايعلمللهٱوبرڪاللهٱ

Recite (O Muhammad SAW) what has been revealed to you of the Book (the Qur'ân), and

perform As-Salât. Verily, As-Salât (the prayer) prevents from Al-Fahshâ' (i.e. great sins of

every kind, unlawful sexual intercourse) and Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism, and every

kind of evil wicked deed) and the remembering (praising) of (you by) Allâh (in front of the

angels) is greater indeed than your remembering (praising) of Allâh in prayers. And Allâh

knows what you do. (Al Ankabut (45))

When you regularly pray to Allah then you will be in close with him in his remembrance. You

will remember that Allah is “al Aleem”

Then you will know that he is knowing of everything that you do, always watching you,

always protecting you and caring for you. That he loves good for you and wants to keep sin

and evil away from you.

There was a companion called Ibn Masud who said

"Whoever wishes to meet Allah tomorrow as a Muslim, then let him guard these five

prayers (by performing them) and what they are called for."

We are all Muslims… Do we wish to meet Allah after we die as Muslims? Yes.. May Allah make

us of those who guard the prayer and perform it correctly.

So what are these Five Prayers?

The Hadeeth of Jibreel 5 minutes

Umar ibn Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) said: As we were sitting one day, with

the Messenger of Allah وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل a man suddenly appeared. He wore pure white

clothes and his hair was dark black - yet there were no signs of travel on him, and none

of us knew him. He came and sat down in front of the Prophet وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل placing

his knees against his and his hands on his thighs. He said, “O Muhammad! Tell me about

Islam.” The Messenger of Allah وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل replied, “Islam is to bear witness that

there is no god worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of

Allah; and to perform the prayer; pay zakat; fast Ramadan; and to perform Hajj to the

House (Ka’bah) if you are able to. The man said “You have spoken the truth” - and we

were surprised that he asked and then confirmed the answer! Then he asked, “Tell me

about belief (iman).” The Prophet وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل replied, “It is to believe in Allah; His

Angels; His Books; His Messengers; the Last Day; and in Qadr (destiny) its’ good and

bad.” The man said, “You have spoken the truth. Now, tell me about Ihsan.” The Prophet

لموس والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل replied, “It is to worship Allah as though you see Him (but know you

can’t see him in this world); and if you don't see him, (know that) He surely sees you.”

“Now, tell me about the Last Hour (the Day of Resurrection)” asked the man. The Prophet

وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل replied “The one asked knows no more of it than the one asking.”

“Then tell me about its signs” said the man. The Prophet وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل replied, “That

slave women give birth to their mistresses (masters); and that you see barefoot,

unclothed, shepherds (Bedouins) competing in the construction of tall buildings.” Then

the visitor left, and I waited a long time. Then the Prophet ( وسلم والہ ہیعل ہللا یصل asked me,

“Do you know, Umar, who the questioner was?” I replied, Allah and His Messenger know

best. He (may Allah's peace be upon him) said “It was Jibril. He came to you to teach

you your religion.” [Sahih Muslim]

So what was the first question he asked him:

“O Muhammad! Tell me about Islam.”

And what did the Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) reply?

“Islam is to bear witness that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is the

Messenger of God; and to perform the prayer; pay zakat; fast Ramadan; and to perform

Hajj to the House if you are able.

So we learnt the first and second pillar last week and really it was a review of the first few

lessons. And we have our diagram on the board already to begin filling out the rest of the

pillars.

Please note that we are general ly covering the pi l lars of the prayer and this

is s imply due to t ime constraints and general knowledge and understanding.

However Later on throughout the next term and beyond they wi l l al l be

expanded on insha'Allah.

The Third Pillar The Zakat 15 minutes

When you get older, and work or have a job, or a business, then insha’Allah you will earn

money and spend some and save it. Then you may have to pay Zakat.

Zakat is a small amount taken from the wealth of a person and distributed amongst the poor

people. It is a duty and obligation to Allah. Zakat is mentioned often in the Qur’an along with

Salah.

The Benefits of giving Zakat for a person and his community

It allows a believer to purify or clean his wealth, and make him appreciate what he

has. Allah says

و من خذ ق ة لهم ٲأم د رهم ص كيہمتط ه تز او لبہ ص هم و ل ي ل وت ك أ ن ع ك ن ص ل هم س

ميع لل هٱو ليم س ع

“Take Sadaqah (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with

it, and invoke Allâh for them. Verily! Your invocations are a source of security for

them, and Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower.”

It strengthens ties of love and care for each other - between the Muslims.

It makes it a habit to give in charity which is a commendable act and something you

get rewarded for.

Allah increases the wealth of the person who pays it even further!

بىأ ن قل سطر ق ٱي ب ز نلر اءلم ادهمن ي ش درۦعب ي ق اۥل هو م تمأو ق ء مننف ى ف هو ش لفه هو ۥيخ رو ي زقين ٲلر ٱخ

Say: "Truly, my Lord enlarges the provision for whom He wills of His slaves, and (also)

restricts (it) for him, and whatsoever you spend of anything (in Allâh's Cause), He will

replace it. And He is the Best of providers."

Zakat is taken from different things

Zakat is not only due on money. It is also due on goods that a person may own. So Zakat is

payable on many things including:

Merchandise that is meant for sale.

Gold & Silver

Animals (for farmers) – or livestock for grazing, like cows and sheep.

Fruit & Veg and what comes out of the Earth

Who does the money go to

General charity (Sadaqah) can be given to anyone. Zakat however can only be given to

specific people or groups of people.

For example a person may give Sadaqah in order to build the masjid. However Zakat cannot

be used for this. Allah says in the Qur’an:

ا ق ـتٱأ ن م د أءلص ر فق ـكينٱو لل س م ـملين ٱو ل ع ال ہ ل ي ةٱو ع ل ف مؤ فىقلوبہم ل ق ابٱو ـرمين ٱو لر غ ل فى بيلو نٱو لل هٱس بيلٱب ة لس ن ف ريض ليم لل هٱو لل هٱم يم ڪح ع

As-Sadaqât (here it means Zakât) are only for the Fuqarâ'[] (poor), and Al-Masâkin[] (the poor) and

those employed to collect (the funds); and to attract the hearts of those who have been inclined (towards

Islâm); and to free the captives; and for those in debt; and for Allâh's Cause (i.e. for Mujâhidûn - those

fighting in the holy battle), and for the wayfarer (a traveller who is cut off from everything); a duty

imposed by Allâh. And Allâh is All-Knower, All-Wise. (Surah at Tawbah (60))

There is a big threat for the one who doesn’t give Zakat. In an authentic hadith the Prophet

(may Allah's peace be upon him) warned us about not paying zakat. He said that if a person

had the means to give this Zakat but did not do so, then (on day of judgement, check) a

large massive snake with two black dots above its eyes will be made, and it will squeeze that

person and say “I am your wealth, I am your treasure.”

May Allah make us of those who pay Zakat, and be of the righteous?

The Fourth Pillar Fasting in the Month of Ramdhan 15 minutes

Who has heard of this month? Ramadhan is a blessed month in which Allah increases the

rewards he gives us for doing good deeds. He also makes it easier for us to stay away from

sins.

We have mentioned it before… Can anyone remember what special thing that happened

in this month? – Answer: It was the month in which the Qur’an was revealed!

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) said " The

blessed month has come to you. Allah has made fasting during it obligatory upon you.

During it the gates to Paradise are opened and the gates of Hellfire are locked, and the

devils are chained. There is a night [during this month] which is better than a thousand

months. Whoever is deprived of its good is really deprived [of something great].”

[Ahmad, an-Nisa'i and al-Bayhaqi].

During this month all Muslims must fast. This is the fourth Pillar of Islam.

Allah says:

ا ـايه نوأ ل ذين ٱي أم ل ي كتب ء امٱمڪع ي الص ل ىكتب ك م لمنل ذين ٱع ل كم م ڪق ب ت ت قون ل ع

O you who believe! As-Saum ( fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you,

that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2). (Surah al Baqarah (183))

So for the period of Ramadhan, a Muslim can train his or herself to be patient. Food is a tasty

treat from Allah, and we have plenty of it at the moment Masha’Allah. However if we

abstain from it, then we will train ourselves to not become greedy. We will also understand

how it feels for people who are poorer than us, who cannot get access to as much food as

we do.

When a Muslim fasts this month sincerely to please Allah then all of his past sins are forgiven.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that Allah's Messenger said : "Whoever observes fasts during the

month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping to attain Allah's rewards, then all his

past sins will be forgiven." [Bukhari]

Therefore all the Muslims must fast this month. There are some exceptions however and that is

those people who are ill, or on a journey. They can make their fasts up at a later date.

Fasting begins early in the Morning. The family usually wakes up and takes “Sahur” which is a

meal before the fast begins. This is highly recommended from the Sunnah of the Prophet.

They then perform their Fajr Prayer, and do not eat or drink anything up until Magrhib.

As soon as it is Maghrib time then we can open our fast. The prophet used to open it with

three dates and water, and so we should copy him in his way. However you can eat

whatever you want after this.

May Allah allow us to see Ramadhan this year!

The Fifth Pillar 15 minutes

There are some photographs in the kids books of the areas. Which I have

inser ted in here for reference. And also a map.

Hajj is making pilgrimage to Allah’s house the Ka’bah. Where is the Ka’bah? Makkah. If you

look in your books you will see a picture of it:

The Ka’bah is in the masjid al Haram in Makkah. See the picture:

So all of us as Muslims must at least once in our life go to the house of Allah. This isn’t at any

time of the year. There is a month “Dhul Hijjah” and Hajj only takes place then.

So a person has to make Hajj only as soon as he is able to go. If he or she cannot go, then he

doesn’t have to go. The person must fulfill the following conditions and then Hajj becomes

compulsory on him:

1) That he is sane and thinking straight, and doesn’t have any mental illness.

2) He has reached a mature age (usually over ten years old). (Answer is puberty,

and you can tel l that maybe to the elder chi ldren)

3) He is free and not a slave to anyone.

4) He is able to go financially and physically.

For a woman there is a further condition and that is that they must go with their mahram (a

male relative she can travel with and never marry, or her husband- for example, her son,

father, brother, husband, nephew, uncle).

So what happens there? Do we just go to the Ka’bah and come back? No, we must follow

through and do certain acts and actions, and visit and stay in certain places. We must copy

exactly what the Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) did.

When a person travels to make Hajj there are certain places he needs to visit. These are the

places where the Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) went and did some actions. We

will go through these things briefly.

Show them the map.

1) He gets into “the state of ihram”. This is that:

a. The man he wears two white garments

b. The woman wears the same clothes as normal (abaya and hijaab)

c. They are not allowed to hunt.

d. They are not allowed to cut their nails or cut their hair.

e. There are also a few other things. Which we will discuss later.

2) They then go out to Mina: See picture

3) They stay in the tents and then they go to the plains of ‘Arafat. Here they make dua’

to Allah to forgive them. They spend the day time there until maghrib .

4) They then go to Muzdalifah and spend the night there. See picture

5) The day after they go back to mina then to a place called the Jamaraat. Here they

throw seven pebbles at the largest stone there. See picture

6) They then go towards the masjid al Haram. There they make a tawaaf (which is going

around the Ka’ba seven times). Then a sa’ee (which is walking between two small hills

7 times), and finally they cut their hair.

7) They then go back to Mina and stay there for two or three more nights.

8) In those days they go and throw seven pebbles at the three jamaraat.

Muslims from all around the world make Hajj. The reward for Hajj if it is accepted is Jannah

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Allah's

Messenger (may Allah's peace be upon him) said, "From one Umrah to another is

expiation for what comes in between, and 'Hajj Al-Mabrur' (accepted Hajj) brings no

reward less than Paradise." (Hadith No. 2630, Book of The Rites of Hajj, Sunan An-

Nasa'i, Vol. 3; Hadith No. 2888, Chapters on Hajj, Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol. 4).

May Allah allow us the opportunity to go there and make Hajj, (those of us who haven’t) and

Accept Hajj from us when we make it.
