15 OFF DUAL 1.25 MVA TRANSFORMER INDOOR SUB-STATION ARRANGEMENTS MAXIMUM INDIVIDUAL TRANSFORMER LOAD IS 50% OF THE TRANSFORMERS MAXIMUM IN AIR RATING. (IN EXTREMIS FORCED AIR VENTIALTION PERMITS AN ADDITIONAL CONTINUOUS 15% POWER TO BE TAKEN) CAST RESIN VACUUM IMPREGNATED TRANSFORMER CONSTRUCTION,HAS PROVEN HIGHER RELIABILITY AND THERE ARE NO OIL AND ASSOCIATED HAZARDS IN THE BUILDINGS TRANSFORMER L.V. SECONDARY WINDINGS ARE CONNECTED IN A “STAR FORMATION” TO GIVE CENTRE POINT EARTHING AND NEUTRAL CONNECTIONS. EACH DUAL SUB-STATION ARRANGEMENT HAS ITS OWN INDIVIDUAL EARTH MAT ARRANGEMENT. THIS ARRANGEMENT PROVIDES EXCELLENT EQUI-POTENTIAL BONDING FOR THE RELIABLE AND SWIFT OPERATION OF PROTECTION AND SAFETY DEVICES BUT PERFORMS POORLY WITH MANY E.M.C. AND ELECTRICAL NOISE TRANSMISSION ISSUES.

Similar principal of operation, after an abrupt energy transfer neutrons are liberated from a heavy metal target by the proton beam.(spallation) Each Target Station contains:

Specialist cryogenic systems (H2 and CH4)

Certified ATEX installation (explosive risk)

Critical target equipment maintained UPS power

All other equipment supported by standby diesel generator

18 off 25 tonne neutron shutters contain ionised radiation

Active ventilation installation.

Extensive use of modern device networks to minimise cabling

Typical Electrical Power Distribution Summary • Approximately 35 off 230/400Vac Cables from the Distribution Board to beamline equipment • 300 Terminations Minimum.

• Approximate length of cable =1000 Metres.

Distribution Board.

• 10-20 off SCSI cables (includes 2 spares). • 8-16 off power cables (includes 2 spares). • 3 - 4 off Monitor cables. Total approximately 50 cables with 2700 terminations. Approximate length of cables = 1700 Metres

Typical Detector Cabling Requirement

• Minimum of 36 cables. • Approximately 360 terminations. • Approximate length of cable = 600 metres.
