FOREWORD

This Indian Standard ( Part 7 ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Metal Forming Machines Sectional Committee had been approved by the Production Engineering Division Council.

In the preparation of this standard, considerable assistance has been derived from DIN 9859 ( Part 7 ) - 1962 ‘Shanks with screwed shaft and collar’, issued by the Deutsches Institut fur Normung (DIN).

The shanks covered in the standard provide security against loosening or turning of the upper parts of the pressworking tools due to the collar. They are generally used on the upper parts which have no guiding device to the lower parts of the tools.

This standard ( Part 7 ) is one of the parts of the standard on Press working tools - Shanks. The other parts of the standard are as follows:

IS 12665 Press working tools - Shanks

( Part 1 ) : 1989 General dimensions and survey

( Part 2 ) : 1989 Shanks to suit rivetting

( Part 3 ) : 1989 Shanks with screwed shaft

( Part 4 > : 1989 Shanks with neck and collar

( Part 5 ) : 1996 Shanks with round flanges - Specification

( Part 6 ) : 1996 Shanks with rectangular flanges - Specification

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised )‘. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
