Invitation toIron Ore 2013Iron Ore 2013 is the sixth in a well-established and verysuccessful international conference series that features the latestdevelopments in the genesis, geology, exploration, mining andprocessing of iron ores, including new projects now underdevelopment and the market outlook. It will bring togethergeologists, geoscientists, mineralogists, metallurgists, managers, engineers, operators, equipment manufacturers and reagentsuppliers involved in all technical aspects of the iron ore industryfrom ore genesis through to mining and processing. Once again, the conference is being jointly organised by The AustralasianInstitute of Mining and Metallurgy (The AusIMM) and CSIRO, withthe support of Fluor and Rio Tinto as Platinum Sponsors and BisIndustries, SKM, Thermo Scientific and WEIR Minerals as GoldSponsors. The conference theme is Shifting the Paradigm, whichis testament to how iron ore companies are challenging existingindustry practices and beliefs while expanding current operationsand developing new mines based around new ore types.

This year the conference is being held at the Perth Conventionand Exhibition Centre to accommodate the growing number ofAustralian and international delegates. It will provide a uniqueopportunity to catch up with the latest developments around theworld. The main topic areas which will be covered includeexploration, geostatistics and ore reserve estimation, orecharacterisation, mining, processing, project development, technical marketing, logistics, utilities, equipment and theenvironment. After the conference there will be a number oftechnical tours. The major tour will provide delegates with theopportunity to visit a number of iron ore operations in the Pilbararegion of Western Australia. Tours of key iron ore laboratories inPerth will also be available.

On behalf of the Organising Committee, The AusIMM and CSIRO,I invite you to Iron Ore 2013 in Perth. I am sure you will find itboth an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
