CertificationCandidates taking this year’s ‘Lower Intermediate level’ will have the opportunity totake the European Certificate in Irish examination. (www.teg.ie). By completing theSeptember, January and March courses at this level as well as our online course‘Irish the Easy Way’, candidates will have completed the advised number of tuitionand self study hours required to succeed in this examination.

The Bord na Gaeilge tutors employ the communicative approach to language learning,with the emphasis on conversational Irish and grammar taught in context. Course materials for both classroom and online courses are based on the ‘European Certificate in Irish’, levels A1, A2, B1 & B2.

LevelsIrish Language Courses for Students

BEGINNER,LEVEL 1 (A1)

This level is aimed at students who have no knowledge of the Irish language orwho know only a few words and phrases. The class will not be suitable for anyonewho has studied Irish at second level in school in Ireland. This level is ideal forinternational students who may have no prior experience of the language.

ELEMENTARY(A2)

This level is intended for students who have an elementary knowledge of thelanguage from previous study or those who already attended a number ofcourses at beginner, level 1. Instruction will begin with a revision of key basicelements of the language.

LOWERINTERMEDIATE(B1)

UPPERINTERMEDIATE(B2)

This level is aimed at students who are reasonably fluent in Irish and who use itsocially from time to time. It is ideal for those who may have taken Irish as ahigher level subject in the Irish leaving certificate. Participants will have theopportunity to extend their vocabulary and to learn more about Irish grammar.The range of topics covered will be more extensive than those covered in thelower intermediate class.

ACCURACY INIRISH COURSE

A course designed for those who have taken a number of courses at upperintermediate level and who wish to focus on grammar and advanced fluency.See ‘Accuracy in Irish’ information leaflet on www.ucd.ie/bnag. This course alsohas an online component.

IRISH FORPARENTS

This course is designed for those who studied the Irish language at second level inschool in Ireland. It is specifically designed for parents or guardians who would like tosupport primary school pupils in learning the language (a minimum of 8 participantsis required for the class and it will be held on Wednesdays 1.05pm - 2.00pm)

(ELEMENTARY LEVEL/LUNCHTIME COURSE)

EUROPEAN CERTIFICATE IN IRISHwww.teg.ie

This level is aimed at students who have studied Irish to leaving cert level, perhapsat ordinary level, who understand a great deal of the language but have had fewopportunities to use it in recent years. It is also suitable for those who attended‘Elementary’ during the past academic year. Some basic language will be taughtinitially but the class will then progress at a faster pace than either of the lowerlevel classes. Students who enrol for this course and the online course will besufficiently prepared to take the European Certificate in Irish at level A2 or B1.
