CLASS UPDATESRECEPTION AAssalaam u alaikum (WRWB)

Dear Parents/families

Welcome back and hope you all had a restful break! The students have been wonderful; they’ve began this term with an enthusiasm towards learn-ing. In Literacy, we are revising letter recognition with sounds, introduced blends in words, began sentence writing by practising the basic rules of punctuation in sentences. In Maths, we are focus-ing on numbers and counting; telling time; learn-ing about money and much more. This week we are planting winter vegetables in our kitchen garden by preparing the beds for green beans, sugar snap peas, silverbeet and iceberg lettuce. We picked some spinach, tomatoes and silverbeet in the past few weeks. We are looking forward to Ramadaan where we will be focusing on gaining more good deeds at school and at home. We have lots of Ra-

madaan craft activities planned as well. Remem-ber to send your children in the full correct uniform as some children are still wearing colour shoes! Re-member to practise reading with your child for 10 minutes daily.

Wassalaam Ramadaan Mubarak! Mrs Naby

RECEPTION BAssalamu Alaikum Dear Parents/Guardians,

As only two weeks have passed in the term we have the blessed month of Ramadan just around the corner. Hopefully our recent school holiday has given both parents and students time to rest and reenergise for yet another exciting learning period. To welcome Ramadan, students in Reception B will be participating Ramadan themed art and craft activities to welcome the holy month.

Students continued to learn all other areas of the curriculum. In Literacy they are working hard to continue to learn their letter blending to read words. They started to learn how to write simple sentences while learning the basic sentence struc-ture. In numeracy we continued to practice our number recognition and counting. We are learning simple addition and substruction methods, as well as shapes and patterns.

In science we are learning the weather around our world while exploring weather symbols to predict different weather patterns. In HASS (History and Geography) we continued to learn family struc-tures and relations including the history of Indig-enous Australian families. They were introduced to maps and learnt how to identify countries from the globe map.

In ICT students children have been engaging in ex-citing learning activities that help them to devel-op further their ability to control the mouse when using a computer. They were able to use an Inter-active Spelling program and created art with Tux Paint painting program.

Ramadan Mubarak to you all.

Best Regards,Ms Sahra Mohamed

YEAR 1ADear families,

Welcome back students and families to another busy and exciting term. My name is Carmen Leung and I am the new year 1A teacher. In English, stu-dents are beginning to read narratives and fairy tales. We have been working on character descrip-tions and talking about how authors use language and image to create characters. In the next few weeks, students will be learning how to structure and write narratives.

In numeracy, we have been looking at addition and money. In the following weeks, we will be focus-ing on measurement, multiplication, number pat-terns and chance and data. In science, students are learning about the weather. We have created weather dials and have been recording the weather every day on our calendar. In health, we have been studying the importance of physical activity and healthy habits.

Thanks,Carmen

MEET OUR NEW STAFFWe have two new SSOs (School Services Officers) who have joined our team at IQRA College. They will mainly be involved with providing classroom support for teaching staff and administrative du-ties at the front office.

Please make them feel welcome if you see them around.

Mrs Toyah Boyle Hi, my name is Toyah and I have been working in edu-cation for over 8 years. So far I have really enjoyed my time at the school. The students have been very friendly and it has been fantastic to get to know them and help them learn. I am looking forward to meeting families of the students I work with.

Mrs Saira Sabir Assalamu alaikum, my name is Saira Sabir and I am delighted to be part of the team at IQRA College. After working at schools for over 10 years I have come to believe that im-plementation and exe-cution is more important than strategizing. I have found everyone at IQRA College to be very friendly and professional, and I can’t wait to help the school and students excel in all aspects.

A FRIENDLY REMINDERWe turn to Allah when we face problems but it is Allah who gives us these problems in the first place because He wants us to turn to Him. There is a rea-son for everything in life and for the Muslim it is always good.

Rasulallah said: “Strange is the affair of the be-liever. Verily, all his affairs are good for him. If something pleasing befalls him he thanks (Allah) and that is better for him. And if something harm-ful befalls him he is patient and that is better for him. And this is only for the believer.” (Muslim)

SPARE CLOTHING FOR RECEPTION & YR 1 STUDENTSWe have several children who have been reported tohave bathroom accidents at school. For the par-ents ofchildren in the Reception and Year 1 classes, please provide an extra pair of pants, underwear and socks with them.

PE CORNER

Last month, 2 of our students (Asya Moussali & Zayden Kamish) competed in the Southern Dis-tricts cross country championships with both run-ners competing in severe weather conditions with strong results. Zayden won his event and will now compete for the Southern Valley District in the state cross country championships in June. Excel-lent achievements by both students.

Last term we were lucky enough to secure funding from the federal government as part of the Sport-ing Schools funding program. With this equip-ment we purchased 4 table tennis tables with all equipment and 4 instructors to coach out year 6 - 9 students over 5 weeks. We have set up these tennis tables for students to utilize during recess and lunch, especially with the cold weather now setting in.

We have pointed out to students that the equip-ment must be looked after during lunch and recess with no food to be eaten near the tables.

With the Sporting Schools funding program, we also purchased 6 portable tennis nets and all equipment with a professional tennis coach to also instruct our students. The equipment stays with the school and will be used as part of our PE pro-gram for years to come. We hope to produce some budding champions in the next few years.

Page 5: IQRA College Newsletter Term 2 Week 2

Don’t forget, each family can use the $50 voucher (from last terms newsletter) to have this reduced from club fees (See the admin staff if you need an-other one). Starting in week 6, we have also acquired Baseball SA to come to our school and provide coaching ses-sions to students in T Ball. The package also comes with valuable resources that will be used in future PE lessons throughout the school. Apart from this, we have also ordered new PE equipment for every class to use for their individual

class PE lessons, so on the whole, the PE depart-ment is developing strongly. If your child is keen to participate in any school sport, including SAPSASA events, I have a list of all the upcoming events and clinics on the wall outside the year 7 classroom. It is students responsibility to check this wall regularly for upcoming events. Kind Regards Michael O’Donnell(Year 7 Teacher/PE Coordinator)
