Part A: The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning ofthe yeartowards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by theend ofthe year 2012-2013.
1. To introduce relevant need based courses.
In academic year 2012-13, the college took the initiatives towardsdeveloping facilities for research in the college. The college has aimedto make PG departmentsto be the recognized center for research fromUniversity of Mumbai, Mumbai.
Under SARAL HINDI course scheme supported by HindustaniPracharSabha, a short term training programme on “Computer and itsImportance in Education” is organized for students of HindiDepartment.
2. To plan various activities as per suggestions made in the Peer TeamReport.
1. The Peer Team suggested that Ph.D. Degree may be acquired by allfaculty members.
The faculty members who are not having PhD degree are motivated to getPhD degree. For achieving same the faculty members were encouraged toregister themselves under the PhD guide of University of Mumbai, Mumbaior somewhere else. The faculty members were also being informed regularlyabout various schemes of UGC, New Delhi for doing research leading toPhD degree. At the end of academic year total eleven staff members arepursuing research leading to PhD degree.
Ms. Sheetal Bhosale, Department of Marathi has been awarded PhD degreein the subject Marathi from University of Mumbai, Mumbai.
Mr. V. Shinde, Department of Marathi has been awarded PhD degree in thesubject Marathi from University of Mumbai, Mumbai.
Mrs. Rohini Patil, Department of Microbiology has been awarded PhDdegree in the subject of Microbiology from University of Mumbai, Mumbai.
2. The Peer Team suggested that more teachers should be encouraged toparticipate in National and International Seminars and publish papersin International Journals.

Almost all teachers have participated in variousSeminars/Symposium/Conferences/ Workshops/of National and Internationalstatus.Many of them have also presented research papers/articles through PPTand poster and published full length paper in proceedings of the events. Someof the teachers have also published their research papers/articles in Nationaland International journal(s) of the field.
Dr. Rupali Mokashi, Department of History has delivered a talk on “HinduWomen as depicted in the inscriptions of ancient Deccan: A paradigmShift in the Historiographic Perception of Hindu Women” at Oxford Centrefor Hindu Studies, University of Oxford, UK on May 9th 2013.
3. To conduct Seminars/Conferences/Workshops/Training programme.
UGC sponsored Interdisciplinary State Level seminar on “Watermanagement” was held on September 8th 2012. The seminar wasinaugurated by the guest Mr. Pawar, Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner ofUlhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Ulhasnagar. The objectives of theseminar were: To highlight the need for water management. To identify different aspects of water management. To emphasis the role of government at different levels.
Total twenty two papers on various topics were presented during theseminar. The full paper(s) were published in the “Proceedings”published by Excel India Publisher, New Delhi (ISBN).
On 30th August, 2012 Students Guidance & Counseling Centre of R. K.T. College conducted a workshop on “Career in Government Jobs-Opportunities & Planning” the chief guest was Mr. Nitin Kale, DistrictController, Govt. Maharashtra.
On 30th January, 2013 Students Guidance & Counseling Centre of R. K.T. College conducted a workshop on “Pre-marital counseling workshop”for the girl students of various departments of the college.
4. To encourage faculty members to upgrade their academic / researchqualifications.

6. To make efforts to provide better infrastructure to match current needs.
An auditorium of about hundred seating capacity has been constructedon ground floor of main college building. The same has been equippedwith the ACs and all audio-visual facilities.
The Administrative Office has been renovated to accommodate the staffwith better facilities.
The Ladies hostel is partly converted into class rooms and partly used asextension for Gymkhana. Five classrooms have been added to theexisting numbers.

For staff computer and Internet facility in senior Vice-Principal office.
A separate room with computer and internet facility has been set up inthe library for students and faculty members who are engaged in activeresearch.
The Science Departments have upgraded by providing computer facilitywith Internet.
A Conference Room attached to Principal’s chamber has been made tohold the executive meetings.
A fully equipped separate room for examination committee with internetfacility.
7. To sustain and enhance quality in all aspects of education.
Quality enhancement initiatives have been taken as follows
1. Enhancing the quality of teaching - learning process by:
The use of teaching aids, such as overhead projector, PPT, charts,models, specimens etc.
Set up of departmental library ensuring easy accessibility of booksduring routine lectures and practicals.
Visit to the college library to familiarize with different books,reference books and research journals and magazines etc.
Organizing film shows on relevant topics pertaining to the subjects. Inviting subject experts for live demonstration of concept. Conducting excursions, Industrial /Institutional visits, Nature Trail
etc. Organizing “RANGOLI” for science students to express scientific
concept through the Rangoli. Organizing “POSTER SESSION” to express views through the
posters. MEHENDI, HAND WRITING, IDOL MAKING, GREETING
CARD MAKING, ARTIFICIAL JEWELRY.
2. Research
The faculty members are encouraged to:
Pursue research as a part of M. Phil and PhD Programme.

Involve in research projects at individual level / or in group fundedby various agencies in India.
Establish research facilities for smooth conducting of projects. Guide PG students in completing the projects leading to M.Sc.

3. Improve performance in:
a) Academic
The weaker students are given special attention by the facultymembers to improve the grades in regular exams.
Class notes (computer typed and hand written) pertaining to thetopics are provided to the students in simple and lucid form.
The numbers of text books in all subjects have been increased tomeet the demand of the students.

The purchasing system has been decentralized and the HODs arefree to purchase and manage the books at their own level.
The internet facility has been provided to each department forhelping the students while making excursion reports, project reports,seminars etc.
b) Cocurricular
Students are encouraged to participate in various cocurricularactivities like quiz competition, exhibition, science projects, storyand poetry writing competition, essay writing, debate- elocution etc.both at intra collegiate and inter collegiate level.
c) Extracurricular
Students are encouraged to participate in various extracurricularactivities like NSS, NCC, AIDS awareness programmes, ScienceExhibition, dance-music-singing; drawing-painting-sketchingcompetitions, cultural programmes etc.
Students also participate in different games and sports activities atthe District /State/ National level.
They are also encouraged to participate in social activities likeblood donation camps, assisting traffic police during GaneshChaturthi and Chalia festivals, serve people in flood affected areas,bringing awareness about sensitive issues among the people throughstreet plays etc.
Our College gets students from the nearby villages, most of themare from weak financial background therefore the participatingstudents are encouraged by providing them with expenses fortravelling and for the day refreshment.

PART B:
1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the Institution:
a) The various Seminars/Conferences / Workshops/Meetings, were conductedby different Departments/Association of the college to encourage andenhance the knowledge of the students, to discuss and deliberate the currentsyllabi and thereby enhance the quality of teaching-learning process.
b) Each department at the beginning of academic year organizes “OrientationProgramme” in the subject concerned for newly admitted students for thepurpose to make them familiar about the subject, scopes in subject,examination pattern, departmental facilities etc.
c) The various departments especially science departments of the Collegeregularly arrange excursions, field visits, industrial and institutional visit todevelop interest in the subject among the students. The Department ofZoology for instance arranged excursion (visit to Rajiv Gandhi NationalPark and Wild Life Research Centre, Pune) and short excursion (visit toSanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali, Mumbai) for F. Y. B. Sc. and S. Y.B. Sc students. The department separately arranged excursion (visit toCentral Institute of Fishery Education, CIFE, Versova, Mumbai, Taraporefish Aquarium, Mumbai and Alibaug Beach, Alibaug, Raigad) for TYB.Sc., M.Sc. Part I and M.Sc. Part II students. The Zoology Departmentalso motivated the students of B. Sc (in general) and M. Sc (in particular) toparticipate in various seminars, conferences, workshops, sciencecompetition, science fair organized by different nearbyColleges/Institutions.
The Department of Microbiology organize Industrial visit like Dairy,Winery, Brewry etc. Every year two students of FY BSc are recommendedand send for training at NIUS (National Initiatives for Under graduatescience) programme. Students are taken to hospitals and laboratories fordemonstration of detection of the various diseases.
The Department of Botany organized visit for MSc students to NFB(National Facility for Biopharmaceuticals), DST sponsored centre to getacquainted with modern techniques and instruments. An excursion toMahavaleswar for TY B.Sc., SY BSc students was organized to study plantdiversity.
READER FORUM organizes programme for the graduate students toinculcate the reading habit and give them an opportunity to interpret work ofliterature.
PLANING FOUM aims at making students ware of current issues.

SCIENCE ASSOCIATION conducted a NATURE TRAIL and organizeda visit to Nehru Science Centre with the aim of developing scientifictemperament in the students.
Most of the Departments conduct short term certificate courses in theirrespective subject so as to develop interest in the students.
d) Besides regular class tests, interactive sessions are conducted to evaluatestudents.
e) The subject notes in the form of simple and lucid language and questionbank are provided to the students to improve the results of each department.Seminars and power point presentations are organized to brief the studentsabout the current developments in the subject.
f) Various associations under different Departments organizes value basedprogramme to educate the students.
g) The NCC and NSS units also conduct various activities to impart valueeducation.

h) ENGLISH LIBRARY ASSOCIATION, READER’S FORUM, HINDISAHITYA MANDAL, MARATHI WADMAYA MANDAL, SINDHISAHITYA MANDAL and SCIENCE ASSOCIATION of the collegeconducted various activities for the students. These also promoted thestudents to participate in events organized by of other colleges. TheSINDHI SAHITYA MANDAL students participated in Inter-Collegiate

“SHANDAR COLLEGE NO. 1” completion organized by Jai Hind Collegeof Mumbai. The SINDHI SAHITYA MANDAL bagged 1st prize (Cash Rs.15,000) and trophy.
i) The following steps were taken to improve the infrastructure in the College:
The renovation and expansion of the Administrative Office building. Construction of Conference Room. Construction of Auditorium. The renovation and expansion of the Library building.

d) Each topic is briefed up by the teacher concerned in his/her first lecture.
d) Regular Industrial / Institutional visits are undertaken by the departments tosupplement classroom teaching.

5. Examination reforms implemented:
a) First Year and Second Year (total four semesters) examinations of all UGprogrammes are conducted by the College onbehalf of the University ofMumbai.The college strictly follows the examination guidelines laid downby respective board of studies (BOS) of the University of Mumbai, Mumbai.An internal examination committee has been set up to ensure the smoothconducting of above said examinations.
b) Third year (total two semesters) examinations of all UG programmes andFirst Year and Second Year (total four semesters) examinations of all PGProgrammes are solely conducted by the University of Mumbai, Mumbai atdifferent centres. The college remains centre for these examinations.
d) Periodic test(s) /Preliminary examination(s)are conducted by the respectivedepartmentsto improve the performance of the students.
c). The Departments of Science provide printed journals/practical notes for F.Y. and S. Y. and T.Y.students.
e)Question bank for unit tests are provided to the students.

Functioning of College Library is automated with INFLIBNET. Bar-coded Reader’s Identity Card. WEB-OPACwith multilingualsearch options. Article Indexing.

Computer Training: (In house)related to different modules of theLSEASE library.
Internet Facility to students and staff. Book Bank Scheme. External Membership to EX students of our college and students and
staff of other colleges. Total 30 students took the advantage of externallibrary membership.
Improvement inInfrastructure.Installation of cameras for securitypurpose. Separate sitting arrangement for faculty members on the 2nd
flour. On 1st floor separate room is created for all teaching, non teachingstaff and PhD students. The scanning and printing facility has beenprovided to the students and other visitors.
Departmental Libraryhelps the students to issue reference books. Subscription to SHODH GANGA that gives access to theses in various
subjects. Online subscription of Research theses, journals, JSTOR for research
students and teachers. The college’s library is the member of British Council Library. 1st in housebook exhibition of competitive exam books was organized
by the college library on July 17th and 18th 2012 for the purpose to makestudents aware of library collection and to increase the users foot printsin the library. Total 324 visitors (15 staff members and 309 students)were the witness of exhibition.
Another book exhibition was organized by college library for librarycollection. Four different vendors exhibited their varied titles. 55 staffmembers and about 500 students visited the exhibition.
A library orientation programme “KNOW YOUR LIBRARY” wasorganized for the students. Total 109 students attended the programme.

Almost every functioning unit including administrative office, examinationcell etc of the collegehas been fully computerized. Computerized halltickets/certificates/marksheets are issued to the students.

Annual Alumni meet is organized by the college regularly.
NCC Units of the College organized Alumni Meets of Ex-NCC Cadetsof the College on 15th August and 26thJanuary.

a) Blood Donation Camps:
Blood Donation Camp is organized regularly as an annual programme underthe coordination of NCC and NSS units.
b) Other Health Awareness Programmes:Pulse Polio Immunization programme, AIDS Awareness programme, AntiTobacco Day, Cleanliness Drive, Blood Group detection camp, Thalassemiadetection camp and Diabetes detection camps are organized by the college.26. Performance in sports activities:

The placement committee of the college invited many reputed companies/firmsand organized campus interviews for the students.

Some of the departments maintain a special board to display the currentdevelopments in the respective subject to inculcate the reading habit instudents and enlighten them of the happenings in the world.
The list of irregular students is displayed on the notice board at the end ofeach month and the parents are informed as a corrective measure.
Reputed companies are invited to conduct campus interviews andplacements.
Library facility is extended to Senior Citizens, Ex-students and Studentsfrom Distance Education etc.
Pre-Marriage Counseling Workshop is organized annually for girl students.
Annual picnics are conducted for the teaching staff
Guru -Pournima is celebrated in traditional manner to build up and sustainteacher – student relation.
