Heads of the Departments by the faculty.

4. Library was expanded in content and facilities.
5. Arranged extra classes for weak and meritorious students. Also made necessary
arrangements for remedial classes.
6. Feedback on the prescribed proforma was filled by the students at the end of the
session.

Various inter-college competitions were arranged in the college.
The students were also encouraged to participate in competitions
organised by other colleges of the state.
Inter-College Essay Writing
The English Literary Society invited entries from various colleges
under KUK for an Inter-College Essay Writing Competition.
The essay covered the following topics:
1. Raising Voice of India Against Corruption.
2. New Face of Women, Beyond Imagination.
3. Pleasures of Reading.
4. New Education Policy- Merits and Demerits.
The competition received enthusiastic response with as many as
twenty colleges participating in it. The numbers of entries were
forty. (September 2011)
An Inter-College Essay Competition was organized by
„Arya Yuvati Parishad‟.
The essays covered the following topics:
1. Arya Samaj Ka Swaroop Aur Prabhav.
2. Mahila Jan Jagran Aur Arya Samaj.
3. Hindi Ke Vikas Mein Arya Samaj Ka Yogdan.
4. Swadheen Andolan Mein Arya Samaj Ki Bhumika.
The competition received fourteen entries of essays from various
colleges. (October 2011)
Inter College Quiz and Poster Making Competition was
organized on November 15, 2011. Eleven colleges from all
over Haryana participated.
Inter College Poem Recitation Competition was organized
on March 15, 2012 by the Hindi Literary Society.
The team of Youth & Cultural Affair Society hosted Inter

College Music Competition on March 15, 2012.

Two teams (A & B) of six students each participated in the
„District Level Science Quiz Competition‟ organized at
Govt. PG College, Sec-14, Karnal on September 8, 2011.
Ms. Priyanka of B.A. III got consolation prize in “On-spot
Writing Competition” held at Guru Nanak Khalsa College,
Karnal on Sept. 27, 2011.
Ms. Ritu of B.A. II brought laurels to the institution by
winning a great number of prizes in Poetical Recitations,
Declamation Contest & Debate Contests. She got 1st prize
in Navrang 2011 Inter-College Poetical Recitation
Competition held at Arya Girls College, Ambala Cantt. on
October 14, 2011.
In the month of October, Zonal Youth Festival of
Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra was held at P.G.
Arya College Panipat from Oct. 17-19, 2011. Our students
took part in classical Vocal, Folk Song (Gen.), Group Song
(Gen.), Group Song (Haryanvi), Group Song (Western),
Group Dance (Gen.), Choreography, Indian Classical
Dance (Solo), Haryanvi Orchestra, Haryanvi Pop Song,
Haryanvi (Inst.) Solo and bagged prizes in most of these
competitions.

Point Presentation Contest on Test Tube Babies held at
Guru Nanak Girls Khalsa College, Yamunanagar, Nov. 22,
2011.

Competition held at Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Karnal
on Nov. 22, 2011.
Shikha, B.Sc. III and Sutapa Shah, B.Sc. II secured 1st
position in Inter-District Science Exhibition sponsored by
DGHE, held at Govt. PG College, Sec-14, Karnal for
presenting a model on „Waste to Valuable Harvesting‟

Selected Team B of „District Level Science Quiz
Competition‟ (Sept. 2011) participated in Zonal Level
Science Quiz Contest on January 16, 2012 at University
College Rohtak. Out of sixteen teams only six teams
qualified. Our team bagged 3rd position in Zonal Level.
Ms. Ritu got 1st prize in Declamation Contest and won 3rd
prize in National Voter Day Debate Competition held at
Govt. P.G. College Sec-14, Karnal on January 18,
2012.She got 1st Prize in Inter College Declamation
Contest held at D.N. College Kurukshetra on February 4,
2012.
Ms. Ritu got 1st prize for Best Self Composed Poem in
Inter-College Poetical Recitation Competition held at Arya
Kanya Mahavidyalaya Shahadad on February 15, 2012.
Ms. Ritu got second prize in Inter College Poetical
Competition held at Markanda National College, Shahabad
on February 17, 2012.
Preeti & Anu Dhonchak, B.Sc. III participated in Dewan
Anand Kumar Memorial State Level Inter-College Quiz
Contest on Environment in Dyal Singh College, Karnal on
February 22, 2012 and won 3rd prize.
Manisha and Shivani, B.Sc. I participated in Dewan Anand
Kumar Memorial State Level Poster Making Competition
on Environment in Dyal Singh College, Karnal on
February 22, 2012 and Manisha won 3rd prize.
A Rangoli and Mehandi Competition was organized by
HUDA in Atal Park on March 3, 2012. A number of
students from various schools and colleges of Karnal
participated in these competitions. Pooja Gaba and Ritu of
B.A. II got 1st Prize and Neha and Avreet of B.A. I won
3rd Prize in Rangoli Competition. In Mehandi
Competition, Ritu of B.A. I got 1st Prize and Sandhya of
B.A. III won 3rd Prize.
Ms. Ritu got 3rd prize in Inter College Declamation
Contest held at Govt. College for Women, Karnal on
March 10, 2012.
Pooja Gaba of B.A. II participated in Inter-College Rangoli
Competition, held at Govt. Girls College for Women,
Karnal on March 10, 2012.

Power Point Presentation Competition held at G.W.C.

Miss Rekha of B.A.III got the 2nd prize in Inter-College
Indian Classical Instrumental (Solo) Competition held at
Govt. College for Women, Karnal on March 10, 2012. She
got First Prize in Inter-College Indian Classical
Instrumental (Solo) (Non Percussion) Competition, held at
host College on March 15, 2012.

Sonia and Anu Dhonchak of B.Sc.III participated in Inter-
College Power Point Competition held at GNG College,
Santpura, Yamunanagar.
Sonia (B.Sc.III) and Savita (B.Sc.II) participated in Inter
College Essay Writing Competition on the theme „Clean
Energy Options and Nuclear Safety‟, organized by DAV
College of Girls, Yamunanagar.
Manisha and Chetna participated in Science Exhibition in
Govt. PG College, Sec-14, Karnal & prepare a model on
„Plant Sciences in Service of Mankind Biodiesel
Production‟.
Vijay Gautam, M.Sc. II secured 1st position in Painting
Competition held at Dyal Singh College, Karnal.
Three students of B.Sc. Computer Applications
participated in Computer Quiz organized by Computer
Department, University College, Kurukshetra.

Sonia and Savita (B.Sc.II) participated in Inter College
Clean Energy Options and Nuclear Safety organized by
DAV College of Girls, Yamunanagar.
An Inter College Hawan Competition was organized at
Sohan Lal College of Education, Ambala. Team of four
students of our college participated in it and got 3rd
Position.
To organize activities on
Gender Sensitization &
Social Awareness
To promote gender sensitization and social awareness:
On September 15, 2011, a Tree Plantation programme was
organized in the college to make girls aware of
Environment Preservation.
A seven day camp commenced from October 29 to
November 4, 2011 in Ambedkar Basti, Sadar Bazaar.
Information on First-Aid, Artwork, Yoga, Craftwork,
Stitching, Pottery Training, Literacy, and Health was given
in this Camp. Citizens were given awareness of Literacy
through a Nukkar Natika.
D.A.V. Arya Vidya Sabha invited a paper on Religion &
Education on January 23, 2012 in the college in which 128
girls participated.
On January 25, 2012, on the occasion of Polling Day, an
extension lecture was delivered by Mrs. Santosh Bakshi to
bring awareness about the role of women in voting.
On February 17, 2012, Shri Dharambandhu Swami from
AQAR 2011-2012 Page 14
Gujarat delivered a talk on Maharishi Dayanand ji. He
motivated the students to be self-confident, courageous and
build strong character.
The Women Cell organized competitions on the theme of
“Nari” in events like Collage- Making, Poster-Designing
and Slogan Writing on Women‟s Day i.e. March 8, 2012.
On March 18, 2012, 10 students participated in the Slogan
Competition against Female Foeticide at Karnal Club.
Karnal Dy. Commissioner, Mrs. Neelam P. Kasni was the
chief guest.
Students participated in Drug and Aids Prevention Day
organized by NIFA on April 2, 2012.
Detailed information on traffic rules was given by
Inspector Shri Satyadev Singh, Traffic Officer, Madhuban.
Students of Legal Literacy Cell actively participated in
Human Chain against Female Foeticide, called on by D.C.
Karnal.
On 6th of every month, the students regularly take an oath
to oppose the deadly evil of female foeticide.
To arrange events that

of students
An Exhibition of dresses prepared by students of Fashion
Designing was arranged on July 2, 2011.
“Talent Search Show” was organized on September 2-3,
2011.Various activities like Poetical Recitation,
Declamation Contest, Painting Competition, Rangoli
Competition, Geet/Ghazal/Bhajan/Shabad Competition,
Folk Song and Dance Competitions along with Fashion
Show were organized successfully. A great number of
students participated enthusiastically and were awarded
prizes.
A Fashion Show was organized by the students of Fashion
Designing in collaboration with Youth Welfare Society on
September 3, 2011.
A demonstration on microwave cooking was conducted by
Mr. Kailash Dillon from IFB industries September 9-10,
2011. Students learnt to prepare a number of delicious and
nutritious recipes.
On the occasion of Diwali, the Department organized sale
of creatively designed Diwali Diyas, Rangoli colours and
beautiful Shagun Envelops on October 21, 2011.
To organise Health
Awareness
Programmes
Apart from Extension Lectures on Health Awareness, the
following activities took place:
A lecture on AIDS was organized by the club on
November 2, 2011 in the college. Dr. Namrata Thukral,
LMO, Kutail discussed the problem of Aids and guided the
students regarding the preventive measures. Badges were
distributed among the students.
First Aid Training Programme was conducted by Mr.
Dhiman, first aid instructor from Red Cross Society,
Karnal from April 4-12, 2012.

To gratify the importance of Blood Donation- A Big
Charity, a Blood Donation Camp was organized in college
on October 13, 2011 in which near about 50 volunteers
donated blood to make the Camp successful. Dr. (Sh.) Shiv
Kumar, C.M.O. was the chief guest in this Camp.
First Aid training was organized during NSS Camp with
the help of Red Cross Society, Karnal. More than 60
volunteers got this training and were awarded certificates.

Trips & Excursions
To enhance the knowledge of the students and clear their concepts,
educational tours were organized:
Students of B.Sc. III visited Fish Seed Farm and Fish Bite
Food Processing Unit Butana, Nilokheri, August 09, 2011.
A plant collection & identification one day trip was taken
to Karna Lake, Karnal on August 16, 2011.
An educational visit was paid to DWR on its foundation
day September 9, 2011.
Students of B.Sc. III visited NDRI, Karnal on dated
September 28, 2011.
A trip to Amritsar and Wagah Border was arranged from
October 29- November 2, 2011.
Industrial visit by BBA Final Year students to Beri Udyog
on November 5, 2011.
Trip to Trade Fair, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on
November 19, 2011.
An Educational visit of B.Sc. III students was made to
CSSRI on March 1, 2012.
The B.Sc. Medical students were taken to Tissue Culture
Lab in Cooperative Sugar Mill, Karnal on March 2, 2012.
A one day trip was arranged to Adventure Island, Metro
walk Delhi on March 4, 2012.

Apart from studies, the students were encouraged to excel in
sports as well. As a result, there were many universities, inter-

The Sports Club organized the Annual Athletic meet on February
22-23, 2012. In the first phase on 22-02-2012 Long Jump, High
Jump, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, Shot-Put, 100 mts. Heats,
200 mts. Heats, 400 mts. Heats, 4x100 mts. Heats and 800 mts.
were conducted. On February 23, 2012, the Chief Guest was the
Olympian Mr. Jitender Kumar Boxing (Arjuna Award). Events conducted on that day were 100 mts. final, 200 mts final,
400 mts final, Chatti Race, Sack Race, and Musical Chair for Staff
Members.
Incentives to outstanding sports persons.
Hostel facility, Extra Diet, Scholarships, Cash Awards, Track
Suits, Shoes, and concession in attendance is provided to the
aspiring sportswomen.
To promote ICT based
teaching and learning ICT based teaching and learning was promoted.
To screen Movies for
students CDs were purchased and added to the library. Film
adaptations of great literary works were screened regularly
for the students.

To offer scholarship to
needy students Apart from the scholarships provided by the university and
government, the college also provided KVA scholarship
worth Rs. 27800/- to various needy students.
To arrange
Extra/Remedial classes Extra classes were arranged for weak and meritorious
students from time to time throughout the session.
Special remedial coaching groups were arranged for the
students of reserved category in various subjects.
Coaching for Entry-into-services was provided to the
students.
To provide Career
Guidance to students
Career Guidance and Placement Cell provided special coaching to
students by the experts in the concerned subjects.
A Career Mela was organized on July 2, 2011 and
extended for a week during admission days in which
parents and students were guided about various courses
and streams are being run in the college. They were told
about their job prospects and further avenues.
A Career Fair was organized on August 5, 2011, about the
career guidance in NCC and Sports.
An informative talk by Mr. R.C. Punia was organized on
February 27, 2012, for the B.A., B.Sc., B.Com. III year
students on the topic “What to do after Graduation”.
Students were informed about the various MBA, B.Ed., job
oriented courses after Graduation.
“Communicative English in the Corporate Sector” was
discussed by Dr. Meena Malik, N.D.R.I., Karnal.
Interaction of Ms. Kanika, Marketing Manager, NIIT was
arranged for the students of B.Sc. III, regarding their
placements after graduation.
An Aptitude Test was held by NIIT. Students were told
about their scores and were made aware of their
shortcomings and also, how to improve themselves.

A Feedback proforma was filled by the students and their
parents at the end of session.
After the analysis of feedback, necessary improvements
were made to maintain the quality and enhance teaching
and learning as well.
To enhance Library
facilities Open Shelf Reference Section was introduced.
Library Orientation Programme was organized by
members of Library from October 21-25, 2011.
Information regarding reference section, reading section
and usage of internet were given to students during the
programme.
Library was connected to INFLIBNET N-list programme,
coordinated by UGC.
Automation process is in progress.
The Library subscribed: 09 newspapers, 19 periodicals, 12
Journals.
1745 books at the cost of Rs. 5,55,655.14 were added
during the year.

UGC Network Resource Centre was established. 04 new
computers were purchased to provide facility to students
for net surfing.
Installed hi-tech photocopier machine to give the facility
for photocopy, printing and scanning to the students on
nominal charges.
On November 5, 2011, a Book Exhibition was organized.
Old magazines sold internally to staff and students.
Newspaper clippings were filed for record.
University examination question papers were maintained
for record year wise.

The college follows the syllabus and curriculum designed by Kurukshetra University,
Kurukshetra. Hence, there is no scope for internal curricular designing. However for
various add-on-courses, job-oriented, dual degree and professional courses, the syllabus
is designed by the parent department of the college.
No New Department/Centre Introduced during the year, but the following courses were
introduced under the different parent departments:

Student Support and Progression
5.1 Contribution of IQAC in enhancing awareness about Student Support Services.
Our institution provides free ships and scholarships to the students who fit in the criteria as per
Govt. rules. The students who belong to SC/ST, OBC & economically weaker sections are
provided every possible help during their stay in the college. There is reservation for students
belonging to differently abled category or physically challenged students as per UGC
notification. Career Guidance Cell provides guidance to students at all stages from filling up
applications, collecting data and training for presentations. The college has various clubs and
societies like Student Council, Women Development Cell, Red Ribbon Club, Anti- Ragging
Committee, Disciplinary Committee, Eco Club, Quiz Club, Science Forum, Youth Welfare
Society etc. where the students are trained, motivated and encouraged to participate in various
competitions held at inter-college, state and national level. The institution has been motivated by
IQAC to maintain Grievance Redressal Cell and Alumni Association. In addition to this,
following steps are being taken by the institution:-
1. The college Prospectus publishes all the details including the courses offered and other
facilities available in the college.
2. Provides Activity Calendar of the year.
3. Career Mela is held in the beginning of the academic session.

5.8 Details of gender sensitization programmes
On January 25, 2012, on the occasion of Polling Day, an extension lecture was delivered
by Mrs. Santosh Bakshi to bring awareness about the role of women in voting.
The Women Cell organized competitions on the theme of “Nari” in events like Collage-

Inspired by Swami Dayanand Saraswati‟s vision of the potential in women and the need to educate and
empower them, this college envisions to provide a distinct environment of excellence in education with
human values and social commitment to girls and to enable them to reach their full potential as human
beings, individually and as members of the society. We also instil in our young students rational
perspective, positive mindset, innovative thinking, integrated personality, self-esteem and sense of
responsibility.
Mission
Education has a two-fold function to perform in the life of a person. The one is service to society and the
other is to uphold our valuable culture. We enable women to become more efficient and achieve with
increasing facility the legitimate goals of their life by adopting the quintessence of life. We also prepare

Objectives
K.VA D.A.V. College for Women, Karnal was founded in the year 1958 and now advancing the aegis of
D.A.V. Managing Committee, New Delhi with the avowed aim of spreading the benefits of education to
women, synchronizing tradition with modernity.
Epitomizing the philosophy of “Vidya Dadati Vinyam”, the college is committed to perceive that
all the learners grow up to be refined human beings and be able to assume positive and fulfilling

6.3 Quality improvement strategies adopted by the institution for each of the following:
6.3.1 Curriculum Development
All the institutional programmes and plans are being monitored and implemented by the Head of the
institution, keeping in touch with the management. The principal receives written reports related to the
evolution of the institution and its achievements in various fields, term-wise and annually from the faculty
and forwards these to the management from time to time. College publications, like News bulletin,
information brochures, emails, newspaper reports too keep the information channel open to the
management.
The Head of the institution ensures that adequate information (from feedback and personal contacts etc.) is
available for the management in the following ways:
a) By holding periodical meetings to review the overall progress of the institution.
b) Through personal interaction of the Principal with the faculty and nonteaching staff.
c) Through personal interactions with students at both formal and informal level.
d) Through interaction of the Principal with the guardians.
e) Through information available in Student‟s Feedback Forms.
f) Through Feedback Forms filled by parents in the meetings‟ organized by the college.
The management and head of the institution are always in interactive mode with each other. The head of the
institution receives feedback from various stakeholders, teachers, students, parents, alumni, and other
dignitaries with regards to the teaching quality, curriculum, extra-curricular activities and infrastructural
requirements, etc. and further communicates it to the managing committee. Agenda and minutes of each
committee meeting are recorded for thorough discussions and deliberations. The existing facilities and
activities of the institution are reviewed and decisions are taken for their implementation based on these
contemplations and reflections.
1. The curriculum designed by the affiliating University, i.e., Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra is
assiduously observed by the college.
2. A teaching plan of the syllabus prescribed by the University is prepared by all the departments at
the beginning of each academic session to make the teaching more efficient.
3. The University recruits the members of Board of Studies according to the seniority of the teachers
to design the curriculum of the various courses. Therefore, we have a few faculty members on the
Board of Studies of Kurukshetra University from our college. These members exchange views with
other teachers/ chairpersons of the concerned department to design the curriculum.
4. We have introduced dual degree programs, add-on courses, and job-oriented programs in order to
increase the employability of our students.

6.3.2 Teaching and Learning
1. The Academic Calendar issued by the Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra, at the beginning of
each academic session, is followed by the college. Keeping in mind the schedule given in the
University Academic Calendar, a Monthly Activity Calendar is prepared and published in the
College Prospectus in order to streamline the teaching.
2. A teaching plan is prepared by each and every department as per the syllabi prescribed by the
University for different courses for the current academic session. Most of the teaching activities
are planned according to the guidelines given in the teaching plan. Teaching is further
supplemented with the help of ICT tools like smart boards, visualizers, projectors, computers,
EDUSAT, multi-media tools, etc. Useful study notes from different websites are also made
available to the students.
3. Seminars, Extension Lectures, Workshops, Screenings of Documentary Films, etc are regularly
organized by different departments of the college to further enrich the contents and texts.
4. Individual student profile is assessed after the University examination results are out.
5. Educational tours, field visits, surveys are organized to supplement routine classroom teaching.
6. The college campus has Wi-Fi connectivity which can be used by the students for the further
enrichment of their knowledge.
7. The college magazine provides the students the opportunity to make good use of their creative
expression. Extra-curricular activities like Debates, Declamation Contests, Rangoli Making
Competition, Fashion Shows, sports activities are organized in the college from time to time for
the overall development of the students. Students also participate actively in sports, NCC/NSS,
and various other cultural activities.
8. Students can also opt for various Add-on-courses which further add to enhancement of skills
and job opportunities in the concerned sectors.
9. Practical knowledge of the subjects is given to the students in all labs, especially in the subject
of English.
10. Extra classes for weak and meritorious students are held in all streams regulated by the HoDs.
11. Social support is extended to economically backward students by giving them scholarships and
freeships. Free boarding and lodging facility is available to sports students and University merit
holders in the College hostel.
12. Apart from the end-semester examinations which are organized and conducted by Kurukshetra
University, Kurukshetra, the teachers evaluate the students on the basis of their attendance and
participation in the class room discussions, their assignment grades and their performance in the
sessionals which comprises their internal assessment.
13. The University revises/restructures the syllabi for the different courses from time to time as per
the requirement of the subject.
14. Psychological support is provided to our students by the Women Development Cell and
Department of Psychology.

6.3.3 Examination and Evaluation
6.3.4 Research and Development
1. The semester system of exams is being followed by the Kurukshetra University
Kurukshetra. The University issues examination forms which are filled up by the students
with the assistance of their teachers. Pursuant to that hall tickets received from the
University are distributed to the students by the college. The centre of examination is in the
college. Question papers and answer sheets are sent by the university. External staff is
appointed by the University for the exams to be smoothly conducted. After examination, the
answer sheets are packed, sealed, and sent to the central coordinating cell of the University
for evaluation. Viva and Practical exams are conducted in the college by the University
representatives. The marking scheme in the University exams is as follows: There is
anonymous marking of the answer books. Each and every answer sheet has a code. The
question paper also has a code in order to maintain the confidentiality of the exam being
conducted. The signature charts are computerized. There is provision of table marking of
the answer booklets which are further moderated. If the students are not satisfied with their
result, they can further go in for re-evaluation or re-checking.
2. Apart from the end-semester examinations which are organized and conducted by
Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, the teachers evaluate the students on the basis of their
attendance and participation in the class room discussions, their assignment grades and their
performance in the sessionals which comprises their internal assessment.
3. The College Advisory Committee issues hall tickets to students with short attendance record
after evaluating the cause of shortage. Mostly they have health or domestic issues, where
they are helpless.. A fine is also levied upon students who are regular defaulters as a
punitive measure. However, the financially backward students are exempted from this fine.
4. Extra weightage in the internal assessment is given to students who represent our college at
the University, State and National level in various activities like Sports, NSS, Zonal and
Inter-Zonal Youth Festival, NCC, (DCATC, PVSC, and VSC, Pre RD, RD Parade), Science
Exhibitions, Quiz Competitions, etc.
Quality Improvement Strategies adopted by the College to improve Research and Development

1. There is Book Bank facility for SC/ST and other financially challenged students.
2. Access to E-resources supplied by UGC-INFLIBNET through N-List programs. It provides the facility to
remotely access e-journals, e-books, and other e-publications. Individual user name and password has been given
to faculty and selected students. They may use this facility anywhere in the college or at home.
3. User Orientation and awareness programme is organized for staff and students at the onset of each academic
session and whenever required.
4. Computerized software is used to catalogue, track circulation of books and to make inventory of the library‟s
assets.
5. New arrivals of books, journals and magazines are displayed on the new arrivals rack.
6. Encyclopedias, sets of Vedas, dictionaries and many other books are available in the reference section of the
library.
7. Copies of prescribed text books are available in the library.
8. A good collection of books and magazines is available for Competition Exams in the library.
9. The Employment News which is published on a weekly basis has also been subscribed.
10. There is an Open Shelf Reference Section in which we have reference books, general knowledge books,
encyclopaedias, atlases, dictionaries, thesauruses, biographies, and back volumes of printed journals, magazines,
etc.
11. The reading room has open access to 09 newspapers, 12 printed journals and 19 magazines.

6.3.7 Faculty and Staff recruitment
1. No one-sided decisions are taken in the college. Horizontal communication is used to discuss
and deliberate important issues. Advisory Committee meetings are held regularly to discuss
important administrative matters. This committee consists of 8 senior most staff and Head
Clerk. Other than that there are statutory committees which function independently. There are
29 administrative committees and clubs and societies on all fronts.
2. Orientation and training programmes are periodically organized for new recruits, both in
teaching and non-teaching staff in order to enhance their working capacity and potential.
3. The faculty of the college is also engaged in various curricular and extra-curricular activities,
along with routine classroom teaching. It leads to human resource maximization by
inculcating in them the required confidence to take up any academic/non-academic challenge
head on.

1. D.A.V. institutes are an established brand, so renowned teachers remain eager to be associated
with us. Advertisements inviting applications from well-qualified candidates are published in
all the leading newspapers.
2. Well-qualified teachers deemed suitable as per the selection criterion of the selection panel
chosen according to the guidelines prescribed by the UGC and Haryana Govt. are appointed
on a probation period of one year. Their tenure is confirmed after assessment of their
performance by the Management. All the appointments are made purely on merit basis by the
Managing Committee at their head quarters in New Delhi.
3. The College gives pay scales as per the UGC rules. 95% of the salary is paid by the
government under grant-in-aid scheme and 5% is paid by the college from its resources. All
the staff members are part of P.F. scheme of the management committee.

involving various industries and research organizations like NDRI, DWDR, MSME, etc to
hold seminars, lectures, workshops and symposia regularly for the benefit of the students.

1. The College invites its successful and well-placed alumni to share their college memories and

To rejuvenate English Language and literature and to enhance the literary,
linguistic and analytical skills of our students, the teachers had organized
Seminars, Extension Lectures, and Workshops on Communication Skills and
screened Movies for upgrading the comprehension skills of students. Add-on
Course in Functional English honed the linguistic skills of our students. The
teachers encouraged Oral Reading of the text in the class to upgrade
pronunciation skills of the students. Seminars cum Discussions are organized
every year to instill in our postgraduate students, a feeling of research which
further helps them in their higher studies.
Eco-Consciousness Campaign was organized to increase the degree of
responsibility in students. Tree-Plantation programs are organized every year
inside and outside the premises of the college, on particular areas surveyed by
Eco-Club in collaboration with the Forest Department of the Govt. of Haryana.
Saplings of various plants of ornamental, food as well as medicinal importance
are distributed to students to make them realize their importance in daily life.
Besides, they are also told to take care of those plants. Cleanliness drive is being
organized by the College at regular intervals under NSS, to not only clean the
college campus but also some nearby localities. A variety of competitions viz.
poster-making, slogan writing, quiz, power point presentations etc. are also
organized from time to time. Students are often taken to various industries
situated in the city viz. Cooperative Sugar Mill, Dairy Industries, etc. where
students can come to know about various pollution control measures adopted by
such industries. Students are also taken to visit Herbal Garden, Meteorological

to appreciate climatic changes.
7.4. Contribution to environmental awareness/protection.
Eco-awareness campaign is organized to create eco-friendly attitude amongst the students.
This includes a motivational address by a subject expert from the vicinity. Declamation,
painting and quiz competition, power point presentations are also organized. Days like
Ozone Depletion Day are keenly celebrated.
Tree-plantation drives are organized specially during rainy season within and outside the
college premises with the help of State Forest Department. The saplings of various fruit trees
are distributed amongst the staff and students.
Bio-degradable kitchen waste management programme was started. The Hostel Kitchen
waste as well as the litter were effectively used to prepare organic manure through Vermi-
composting technique and was put on sale.
Computers which were declared out-dated by the department were donated to other schools
run by the D.A.V. management. Some of the computers and their accessories were also sold
as scrap to local vendors. Many of our systems are upgraded to minimize e-wastage.
Various bodies create eco-consciousness at different levels. These are Eco-Club, NSS, NCC,
etc.
Minimum energy consumption is practiced in the college. Our college strictly follows the
motto, “Energy Saved is Energy Gained.” The college uses CFL bulbs instead of tungstun
lamps.
The college bus and other vehicles are checked by the RTO and provided with CNG
pollution free stickers. Car pooling is done by staff for transport and conveyance. Carbon
emission is minimized by Polyalthia Pathways at the entrance of college. Planting a variety
of trees and ornamental plants have contributed to carbon neutrality in the campus.
Electronic goods are put to optimum use, the minor repairs are set right by the electrician and
laboratory assistance and the major repairs are done by the professional technician and are
re-used.
Despite the lack of space, we have made all the efforts to maintain greenery in the college
campus.
The Botanical Garden is spread over an area of 14331.75 sq.ft. It has a green house and a
pond for aquatic plants.
