MAYO COLLEGE, AJMER
An all residential English medium boys’ school from Class IV to Class XII,
Mayo College was founded in 1870 for the scions of the aristocracy of Rajputana, the princes of various states as well as their siblings who formed the nobility of the province to provide them with modern, liberal, enlightened and holistic education as a prerequisite for future rulers of imperial Rajputana.
The College was opened in October 1875, with Sir Oliver St John as the first Principal and the School admitted its first student, His Highness Maharaja Mangal Singh of Alwar on 23 Oct 1875.
Following Independence, as provinces became states, Rajputana transformed into the modern Indian state of Rajasthan, Mayo College began its own transformation as well. In 1953 it began to admit students from across the country and its societal spectrum. Today, its students are drawn from all over the globe. Where once Mayo College educated its boys to be rulers of their states and estates, it is now focused on producing leaders for all fields of life in modern societies. Nestled in the verdant valley of the Aravali Hills of Rajasthan, the School campus is 180 acres of the most luxuriant tree and grass cover at the start of the desert country. The Main Building constructed of marble is a classical example of Indo-Saracenic architecture and stands tall. It has 18 full size playing fields, a 9-hole Golf course, 50 thoroughbred horses, a modern climbing wall, three gymnasiums, two swimming pools amongst other facilities and attracts students on exchange programmes from across the world.
While maintaining its traditional look, the School has progressed by leaps and bound with changing times. It has India’s most advanced Information. Technology network in a boarding school. The entire campus is wired with over 500 networked nodes providing smart classrooms, labs and a resource centre. The forte of the School remains its teaching faculty. It has over 80 well qualified and experienced teachers supported by 20 instructors to cover all subjects relevant to modern education. The School is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. It is also a member of the Indian Public Schools’ Conference, The Round Square International Conference, Scouts and Guides and National Cadet Corps.

HISTORY OF MFT
In the year 1975, Mayo College completed 100 glorious years and to mark the centenary year celebration the College decided to organize an inter-school football tournament every year.
Since its inception in the centenary year 1975, MFT became a much-awaited football tournament for all the leading public schools of the country and has always been marked in bold and italics on their sports calendars.
The first MFT was organized in September 1975 in which 8 Public Schools participated and the tournament was a great success. As the MFT grew in stature, many interesting stories started doing rounds which are often shared with us by the Old Boys and teachers. In 1992 MFT reached greater heights with the participation of 20 leading public schools of the country. The former Indian Football Captain Baichung Bhutia, in whose captaincy Indian Football Team lifted the Nehru Cup, was a regular participant in the MFT from the year 1990 to 1992.
The ‘Sobhag trophy’ for the tournament is presented by Maharaj Swarup Singh Ji of Jodhpur.
