Ethos of IPF Student PowerliftingThe ethos of the IPF and this document wants to empower students of all ages and abilities to take up the sport of powerlifting in Ireland. Either as a coach, referee, spotter, loader, lifter, or a supporter of the sport.

We want to get more people physically active as obesity is a national problem we are facing and the Sport of Powerlifting can easily fix this problem. We don’t judge someone on what weight they are, how they look, what course they study, what religion, what background they are from. We want to see everyone become a “stronger version” of themselves by beating their previous bests and becoming a better more confident individual through hard work and determination.

Powerlifting is a sport for all ages and abilities just like education one can always learn and one can always get stronger. The two go hand in hand, having a strong mind always makes for a body stronger (and vice versa). The federation has a zero-tolerance on doping and will do out of comp and in comp testing.

R.E.R.E AimsThere are 4 Aims that will expand the growth of student powerlifting in Ireland.

(1): Recruit more students between the ages of 16-23 (male and female), regardless of ability and experience into the sport either as lifters, coaches, referees, spotters, loaders or helping their own regional divisions/national federations in some way, shape or form.

(2): Education is a must to the younger generation on both the dangers of using PED’s (performance enhancing drugs) and teaching them the correct way to train, eat and understand the competition rules. This can be done through hosting seminars with speakers whom are clued up in their relevant fields to educate everyone.

(3): Retention of lifters is key. Once we have individuals interested we need to keep them interested and motivated. To do this we need get them aware of the sport through schools, colleges and universities. In each area schools/colleges/universities should have a feeder system with local clubs so after education they can keep competing.

Each school/college should also have a feeder system into a university as a way of continuing their education alongside competing in the sport.

(4): Enhance lifters capabilities on the. These include physiotherapy, sports therapy, strength and conditioning and

4

sports science. These will not only make lifters better but allow them to compete at the top for longer.

Yearly GoalsFor 2015-2016 these are the goals;

- Increase in U18 members- Increase in U23 members - Increase in student members- Have 3 Student run clubs in Ulster affiliated to IPF- Have 3 Student run clubs in Lenister affiliated to IPF- Have 3 Student run clubs in Munster affiliated to IPF- Have 3 Student run clubs in Connaught affiliated to IPF- Increase in student referees- Students competing at National Championships - Students representing Ireland at Euro/World

Championships- U18 and U23 competing at respective European and

World Championships - U18 Squad Sessions- U23 Squad Sessions- Another Student Officer to work alongside myself to

help myself achieve these goals. - Possibly have Student Officers in each province then rely

back to the committee. A chain of command so to speak. Ideally creating a team of 6 people (2 senior officers followed by 4 junior officers)

That is the goals for now these are subject to change. Feel free to email or ring the contact details provided to add or

discuss these goals. Towards end of 2016 I would like a Student competition but can’t say yes/no yet. I would rather create the base first then focus on comps second.

What the Plan can offer StudentsThe Student Development plan can give students a guide along with the IPF Strategic Plan (once fully developed) to follow and help grow the federation.

They will have the backing of individual’s whom all have the passion for the development of the sport. Not on a national level but to an international level as we (as a nation) have the ability to compete amongst the top nations in Powerlifting.

To encourage everyone to compete in a drug-tested environment and to have anti-doping education at the front to expose anyone trying to undermine the ethos of this federation.

The federation has been set up by lifters for lifters. All members of the committee are coaches, run their own clubs, already been part of other federations on an admin or committee role. So there is no lacking of experience. Any questions please ask, we are here to help you be better lifters and make any processes related to powerlifting much easier.

- If you are at any university, school, college where you would like to start up a powerlifting club then please send on their contact details as we would like to discuss the possibility of setting up a club linked to the IPF.
