IOP > 21 mmHg / Difference of > 5 mmHg between the eyes
Optic nerve head normalVisual field normal
Optic nerve headAbnormal
Visual field abnormal
Assess IOP by slit lampMounted Goldmann or
Perkins tonometry
IOP 22 – 31 mmHgIOP < 21 mmHgIOP difference of > 5mmHg
in both eyes Optoms should consider whether to refer to Secondary Care or
whether to monitor
Patient recall in 12 months or as appropriate
Repeat Goldmann Tonometry on separate
occasion 1 -2 weeks later
IOP < 21mmHG
Ages > 65 – 79IOP 22 – 24 mmHg
Age > 80IOP > 22 – 25 mmHg
Refer to Secondary Care with Patient Choice within
24 hours
IOP > 31mmHg
Discharge and recall as appropriate
