1. reaching Aveiro…

Aveiro, known as the Venice of Portugal, is located on the Atlantic coast of Portugal and is surroundedby salt-flats, beaches and lagoons. Once a big sea port, it lies in a region of valleys cut by mountains

and fertile lagoon plains. The city is crossed by canals, which give it quite an individual character. In

the canals you can find the moliceiro , a traditional boat painted with bright colours and with often

ingenious and humorous decorations. Those who appreciate good food can taste the delicious eel stew

and a variety of sea and lagoon fish soups. But Aveiro is specially known for its sweets; the most

famous is ovos moles (soft eggs), sweetened egg yolk in candied casings shaped like fish or barrels.

… by plane The closest airport is Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport in Porto, located 70 kms to the north

of Aveiro. Portela International Airport in Lisbon is located 250 kms south of Aveiro. From Lisbon or

Porto you can reach Aveiro easily by train, bus or car.

» from Porto airport

The trip between the airport and the railway station (called Porto-Campanhã), which has direct rail

connections to Aveiro, can be done by taxi for around 20€ and takes around 30 minutes. A less

expensive way to reach the Porto-Campanhã railway station is to use the Metro

(http://www.metrodoporto.pt/), which has a terminal at the airport. The trips between the airport

and the railway station take about 32 minutes and the ticket costs 1,80€ (Z4 ticket). The train journey

to Aveiro takes between 40 minutes and 1h15, depending on the type of train used. There are regular

trains to Aveiro from Oporto. Check the train timetables and rates here (http://www.cp.pt/).

» from Lisbon airport

If you are arriving by plane, the simplest form of transport to Aveiro is by train from Lisboa-Oriente

railway station. To get to the train station, you can go by taxi, which takes about 10 minutes and costs

around 10€, but there are less expensive ways to get there, by bus, for example (lines 5 and 44). Check

the train timetables and rates here (http://www.cp.pt/).

… by car From the north, using the A1 motorway, or from the east, using the IP5/A25, follow in the direction of

Lisbon. Exit the A1 in the direction of Aveiro and take the IP5/A25. There are two exits to the city from

the IP5/A25, first "Aveiro-Norte" and some kilometres further on, the "Aveiro" exit. This second exit is

best for reaching the University of Aveiro (the University is near the hospital).

From the south, using the A1 motorway, follow in the direction of Porto. Exit the motorway at "Aveiro-

Sul/Águeda" (exit 15) and follow the EN235 road directly to the University Campus (the University is

near the hospital). From the south, using the A8 and A17 motorways, exit at "Aveiro-Sul” and follow the

EN235 road directly to the University campus (the University is near the hospital).

… by train Aveiro is located on the Northern Line and is well connected to several cities through railway, being

served by numerous circulations, including the service Alfa Pendular. Check the train timetables and

rates here: http://www.cp.pt/. Aveiro railway station is located about 20 minutes walking distance or

5 minutes taxi ride from the University Campus. See how to reach the University of Aveiro in the city

To reach the Campus, you can also use the bus (lines 5, 6 or 7), which departs at regular intervals

BUGA

BUGA is the name of the ‘Free Bikes of Aveiro’ project. Riding a bicycle is the most beautiful, thehealthiest and the most ecological way of visiting Aveiro. There are 20 parks, situated in the most

strategic city spots, including the Bus and Train Stations. If you want to request a bike, you only need

to leave a document of identification in the BUGA point, near the city’s market. The streets are

3. parking optionsThere are several parking areas inside the Campus, however their use is restricted to UA card

holders. Visitors can use other options inside or near the Campus (these are marked in the map).

Option 1. There is a free parking area near the gymnasium.

Option 2. There is a free parking area near the hospital.

Option 3. Right next to the Rectory Building, there is a paid parking. It is open from 8:00 to 20:00.

Option 4. Other parking options are available on the surrounding street Rua da Pega.

4. registration and venue

Registration is open from 9:00 to 17:00. Please note that there are different registration desks: onefor authors and general participants, and another for BSc, MSc and PhD students. The registration

desk is located in the lobby of the Rectory building (building 25) and plenary sessions take place in

the main auditorium of the same building. Parallel sessions take place in the Rectory building

(smaller auditorium) and in the Department of Economics, Management and Industrial Engineering

(DEGEI) (building 10), in five rooms located on the ground floor (10.1.3, 10.1.6, 10.1.7, 10.1.8 and 10.1.11). For

your convenience, all buildings and session rooms are identified.Coffee breaks are served in the exhibition tent, where the Tourism Innovation Forum (BiT) takes

place, located next to the Library (building 17). Lunches are served at the Castro Restaurant (building

M), which is located in the university Campus.

In case you have queries, please do not hesitate to contact the members of the INVTUR 2012 staff. They

are easily identifiable, so you can approach them at any time. They will guide you in case you have any

difficulties.

5. social eventslunchesThose who have registered for the conference lunches, upon registration, will receive lunch vouchers,

which can be used at the Castro Restaurant, located in the university Campus. Please, be sure to

take the lunch voucher to the restaurant. Lunches start at 12:30 and should end at 14:15, given that

conference sessions start at 14:30.

For those who have not registered, there are several other options, either in the campus or nearby

(see the restaurants’ section). In the university there are several canteens and restaurants:

Refeitório Santiago (building 6), Refeitório Complexo do Castro (building M), Restaurante Universitárioand the Snack-bar/Self-service (building F). For the Santiago and Castro’s canteens you can buy meal

tickets in automatic machines located in the Campus near the canteens. For the Snack-bar you can

pay in cash or debit card.
