Our Mission We believe in the equal and inherent

value of all human life. We believe that a worldview bound by

borders is outdated. We believe that stopping injustice

anywhere is the responsibility of humanity everywhere.

Invisible Children exists to bring a permanent end to Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) atrocities.

Page 3: Invisible Children PPT Project 1 (Official)

Our Mission (Continued…) We first encountered the atrocities in

northern Uganda in 2003 when we met a boy named Jacob who feared for his life and a woman named Jolly who had a vision for a better future. Together, we promised Jacob that we would do whatever we could to stop Joseph Kony and the LRA. Invisible Children was founded in 2004 to fulfill that promise.

What We Do Invisible Children focuses exclusively on the

LRA conflict  through an integrated four-part model that addresses the problem in its entirety. This includes both the immediate needs and long-term effects.

We create films to document LRA atrocities, introduce new audiences to the conflict, and inspire global action.

We mobilize massive groups of people to support and advance international efforts to end the LRA’s atrocious, traumatizing, and horrific acts.

More of What We Do: We work with regional partners to build

and expand systems that warn remote communities of LRA attacks and encourage members of the LRA to peacefully surrender.

We work to rehabilitate children directly affected by the LRA and invest in education and economic recovery programs in the post-conflict region to promote lasting peace.

Our Programs (Continued…) Community Protection: We provide as much support

and protection to the Ugandans as possible. Defection Fliers: To try to communicate clearly with

members of the LRA by sending “Come Home” messages to convince them to leave the LRA and return to their former lives.

FM Radio: We broadcast unique messages from former LRA members and leaders giving detailed instructions on how to escape safely.

Rehabilitation: To provide psychological, physical, and/or emotional rehabilitation to those who have been traumatized by the acts of the LRA.

Our Programs (Continued…) Legacy Scholarship Program: The Legacy

Scholarship Program provides merit-based scholarships and mentoring to motivated and talented secondary and university students from northern Uganda who were affected by the LRA conflict.

Schools 4 Schools: High schools around the nation join forces and fundraise throughout the year to provide funds to accomplish new goals that will finally bring an end to the tragic war raging through central Africa and Uganda.

Our Programs (Continued…) Mend: The Ugandan women find comfort and

therapy and earn money to support their families by making different African-style laptop cases, bracelets, handbags, etc.

WASH: Water, sanitation, and hygiene for rural communities.

LRA Crisis Tracker: This is a new feature in which anyone who is on the Invisible Children website can check and track the amount of damage and most recent attacks by the LRA.

Community Need Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance

Army have been abducting, killing, and displacing civilians in East and central Africa since 1987.  This is an obvious community need

because if the killings, rapes, abductions, etc. continue, there will not be a community left. We need to find our humanity and help end their suffering.

Process Our team goes on road trips across the nation to

present screenings at different schools, universities, etc. to explain the cogent facts of the horrifying acts going on throughout Uganda and Central Africa.

We then create programs across the nation in which the youth who felt compelled to help can get involved.

These youth raise money we turn around and distribute to improving the living conditions of those suffering in Uganda and/or ending this war and restoring peace to Central Africa.

Outcomes We work so hard to bring an end to the atrocious

acts of hatred and war put forth by Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army because it brings security back to the lives of the Ugandans By our efforts to stop the LRA, we have been able

to restore many broken families and have given the Ugandans a taste of the freedom, security, and life rights they have not been privileged to experience for the past 50 years.

We strive to meet the emotional needs of each of the individuals throughout Central and South Africa.

Shuttleworth Foundation We both strive to inspire the world to

apply critical thinking and critical action Here at IC we believe in having the ability

to process what you read and create a logical and reasonable solution.

We try to stir up a passion and zeal in the hearts of all who hear the plea of the Ugandans so we can finally put and end to this war.

Page 16: Invisible Children PPT Project 1 (Official)

Critical Thinking “…to be thinking about how to apply our knowledge of

the atrocities into action(s)…” We must always be predicting Kony’s next move in order

to coercively capture him and bring him to justice. We must always be thinking of ways to aid the

Ugandan’s and help them conquer their emotional, physical, and mental traumas.

“…to use our knowledge to create a passion and zeal for the Ugandans...” We must recognize the substantive evidence against

Kony and think of new ways to bring peace back to Africa.

Page 17: Invisible Children PPT Project 1 (Official)

Critical Reading “…to evaluate, analyze, and understand

each concept…” By being able to apply these skills, we

understand more of who Kony is and what his values are. This brings forth a lot of insight to the LRA and how to stop them.

“…to find the idea/question that is central to the cause…” How can we restore peace to the

Ugandans/other countries in Central Africa?

Page 18: Invisible Children PPT Project 1 (Official)

Critical Action “…to apply the knowledge accumulated from

what we’ve read in the text…” We actively read global news with emphasis on

Uganda and Central Africa and by keeping posted, we are able to successfully create new plans to stop Kony and the LRA.

“…to actively raise money to fund the various beneficial/crucial programs…” Between our staff and volunteers throughout the

nation, we are constantly raising money to aggrandize the awareness rate and to end the 50-year-long war and trauma.

Personal Connection I volunteered in the Schools 4 Schools program

at my high school for four years and helped fundraise money to send to our sister school in Uganda. We raised the most money in the nation, so we had the opportunity to send the President of our club and our advisor to Uganda for 16 days to see the work put into action.

I was also very involved with the club and the fundraising during the year our club selected my sister to take the trip to Uganda, as well.
