PURPOSE OF THE SCHOOL

The School of Prophetic Leadership in its mission recognizes the void of prophetic leaders being developed in the church today and understands the significance of harnessing prophetic potential in the Body of Christ. In an era where seminaries have become incapable of training prophets and church structures have stifled out the voice of prophets, new kingdom learning communities must be encourage to obey the mandate to empower and equip prophetic leaders. The program seeks to create an organic learning environment that is vitally connected to the needs of local churches and their respective communities and regions. The strength of the School is its dual emphasis on developing leadership ability while unleashing prophetic authority. Our firm belief is that prophetic authority is raised to another level when prophets apply Biblical leadership practices in fulfilling their calling. Our program is intentionally named The School of Prophetic Leadership because we see the need to integrate the charismatic power of the prophetic with spiritual disciplines of leadership development.

The School of Prophetic Leadership’s purpose is to awaken and activate the 21st century leadership capacity of prophetic voices to operate in two arenas: within churches and in civil society. The strategy for our vision is as follows:

a) Within congregations into church-commissioned prophetic teams: By training key leaders from churches in prophetic leadership and sending them back to

their churches with new insight, knowledge, and impartation. By training churches to form prophetic teams and prophetic prayer groups.

b) Across congregations into citywide and regional prophetic ministries and teams By providing in-depth beginning and advanced training, mentoring, internships, and

impartation for emerging and existing prophetic leaders into a multi-sector citywide and regional focus for prophetic ministry.

AUDIENCE

This School is designed to equip prophetic people operating in various measures of prophetic gifting and authority, in both the diverse ministries of the church and in various sectors of society. Students come from various denominational and church cultures at different stages in their prophetic development. The training provides fundamentals and resources that are useful on many levels for prophetic individuals and groups who seek authentic and sustained impact in prophetic ministry.

In addition, the School’s curriculum may be useful to those who work on leadership teams with or oversee prophetic people. The teachings, insights, and tools provided can increase the value and understanding of working in partnership with the prophetically gifted to enhance a collective kingdom agenda.

LEARNING METHODOLOGIES

The School of Prophetic Leadership’s method is designed to integrate the learning of Biblical principles while applying practical approaches to develop prophetic leadership ability. Learning methods will include lecture, readings, discussions, question and answer, prayer activations, class exercises, outside assignments, assessments, developing a learning log and prophetic leadership action plan.

PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY Our philosophy of learning and leadership development involves the following: 1. Prophetic Leadership should be discipled and not stifled and can be raised up through a church-

sanctioned, Biblical mentoring process that encourages the intentional spiritual formation of prophets.

2. The School of Prophets follows the Biblical precedence of prophetic guilds and leadership equipping by creating a relational and organic learning environment for growing leaders.

3. Leadership equipping that remains vitally connected to the needs of local churches and their respective communities and regions is the New Testament model.

4. Value the movement dynamic of prophets. Prophet Leaders are movement initiators and builders and can awaken the prophetic spirit dormant in the church today through forging healthy alliances and creating new communities of the Spirit as a key component to advancing the kingdom of God in the earth.

5. Prophetic Leadership happens and has value at every level throughout the Body of Christ. Though not all people walk in the prophetic office, all believers have received the Spirit of prophecy and can be prophetic. The School model embraces prophets as leaders and integrates leadership development principles with prophecy.

6. Empowering prophetic ministry to be effective has broad-based impact and involves clearing the path, removing barriers and providing open channels to mobilize a kingdom-wide movement of the prophetic spirit.

COURSE SYLLABUS

COURSE DESCRIPTION

“I now embrace the theory of prophecy which holds that prophetic voices of great clarity, and with a quality of insight equal to that of any age, are speaking cogently all of the time. Men and women of a stature equal to the greatest of the past are with us now addressing the problems of the day and pointing to a better way and to a personeity better able to live fully and serenely in these times.” Robert Greenleaf

At PureSpring Institute, we define Prophetic Leadership as: “Persons who release the spirit of prophecy through a commitment to the radical practice of Seeking, Seeing, Speaking and Spreading the revelation of Christ and His kingdom to breakthrough the spirits of this age.” Prophetic Leadership rises from the Hebrew prophetic tradition and is rooted in Jesus Christ’s teachings and actions. While Moses in the Old Testament represents the beginning of the prophetic call, Jesus came full of the Holy Spirit and modeled a sacrificial life that demonstrated the heavenly virtues. The purpose of this course is to awaken and develop the gifts and fruit of prophetic ministry in 21st century prophetic leaders who, in turn become catalysts of kingdom movements. The course is both a Biblically-based and spiritually-empowering process centered around four essential disciplines for shaping and releasing effective prophetic leadership.

PROPHETIC PROTOCOL

Prophetic Etiquette Guidelines for this Class and beyond We will revisit this idea of Prophetic Protocol from time to time using our classroom interaction as a basis for it. The goal is to develop good prophetic habits and etiquette for a life of fruitful ministry. As we move from one module to the next, we follow a progression of developing private and personal ministry into exploring how we take the ministry public. Initially, as we build a supportive learning atmosphere, our focus will be to encourage any effort on your part to move prophetically. We will be intentionally lenient, patient, and comforting to allow you the space to make mistakes and grow. You will be applauded for taking the risks to activate your gift, whether or not you are accurate. Gradually, we will move into more directives. As we move deeper and as classroom dynamics unfold, feedback will be given in the area of prophetic protocol and some of your actions and words may be challenged and questioned to help test you on the level of prophetic etiquette. Remember this is still a safe, affirming environment where everything does not have to be perfect. As we apply more strict guidelines throughout the training, it is to evaluate your ability to adhere to prophetic standards and to guide you in the proper exercise of prophetic ministry in ways that edify others.

1. Learning Lab & Disciplines. Envision the group as a leadership and learning community. This School is helping to cultivate a prophetic community of practice and leadership for kingdom advancement. Our concern is that you leave this class better equipped to be disciplined prophetic leaders. Operating the gift with humility, confidence, and love is therefore crucial. Keep in mind the two-fold purpose of the prophetic leadership school is to activate and awaken the prophetic in churches and cities: a. Within congregations into church-commissioned prophetic teams

i. We do this by training key leaders from churches in prophetic leadership and sending them back to their churches with new insight, knowledge, and impartation.

ii. We do this by training churches to form prophetic teams and prophetic prayer groups.

b. Across congregations into citywide and regional prophetic ministries and teams i. We do this by providing in-depth beginning and advanced training, mentoring,

internships, and impartation for emerging and existing prophetic leaders into a multi-sector citywide and regional focus of prophetic ministry.

ii. Identifying people that can be a part of a citywide team. Establishing their roles. We will have set purpose and projects to tie them into. We are building it slowly. It takes time…It may not be more than 2 or 3 at a time.

Summary: What does this all mean? What happens here is significant for the advancing of the kingdom of God! This means what we are doing in this class may impact our churches, city and potentially this region. There are still negative stereotypes that need to be broken about the prophetic and prophetic groups together functioning in the wider ministries of the Church. Let us all strive to be catalysts for dismantling these barriers by our commitment to scriptural integrity and spiritual discipline individually and as a group.

Page 16: INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE SCHOOL€¦ · prophetic development. The training provides fundamentals and resources that are useful on many levels for prophetic individuals and groups who

Prophetic Protocol Guidelines for this Class and beyond

2. Confidentiality in The Learning Context a. Assignments – are to help you begin to identify and develop a prophetic leadership

plan. It is to help us help you in your self-assessment process. This information is confidential and is designed to be shared only with you and your pastor in the form of a one page evaluation at the end of the course, except in some unusual cases where more detail needs to be supplied to your pastor.

b. Class Discussions - as well as information shared in class must absolutely be held in strictest confidence.

c. Class Lists - Please do not contact or place any class member on distribution lists without their express permission.

3. Respect in a Multi-level, Multi-styled Class: Be sensitive to the diversity of prophetic people

functioning at different levels and at different stages, seasons, styles of prophetic. Continue to be patient with each other and respect differences even if you are not able to fully embrace it. Remember, everyone flows differently and uniquely in the prophetic---we can all learn something from each other. Also, a word to how people function between levels: More mature prophetic people should not prey on the weakness, vulnerability, or immaturity of another. Likewise, emerging or younger prophetic persons should not try to prey on the experience of mature. Respect personal boundaries, as well as the boundaries of local church commitment and pastoral oversight for each person. Deal in integrity with each other. Maintain honorable intentions and actions toward each other.

4. Boundaries on Time and amount of talking

a. Expect that there will be times when you have a comment but it will not be taken in the class. Write it down, come to me after class or e-mail it to me. If necessary we will bring it back to the whole group.

b. Expect that lengthy comments and sometimes even ‘prophetic’ words will be interrupted. Exercise the discipline of when to speak, how to be succinct, clear, and crisp in your speaking and prophesying.

5. Sensitivity must be exercised for issues of touch. Laying on of Hands, especially on people’s

Heads should be limited as much as possible – unless you have recognized authority within that context or the Holy Spirit is really prompting you to do so. This includes anointing someone with oil. (Even with that it is a good practice to ask for permission or explain why you need to lay hands on the head) Be aware of where you lay hands on a person always. Generally, the best place for laying hands is on the shoulder or to hold the persons hands, though in some environments where gender, authority and maturity may present issues then no physical contact may be the safest option.

Page 17: INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE SCHOOL€¦ · prophetic development. The training provides fundamentals and resources that are useful on many levels for prophetic individuals and groups who

Prophetic Protocol Guidelines for this Class and beyond

6. Familiarize yourself with the Class Rules around Giving and Receiving a word. Be sensitive about how to receive and not receive a prophetic word. See Quick Guide to Activations for tips on How/When to give or not give a word. Remember to remain committed to our GRO groups (Giver, Receiver, Observer) procedures and purpose.

7. The NATURE of words given should be: Edification, Exhortation, Comfort (EEC). Descriptive

versus Prescriptive. Consolation versus Desolation: o Descriptive vs Prescriptive – Right Words. You may not always have the right

interpretation. Correctly Interpreting Words - Rick Joyner – prophetic word about becoming an expert musician when all the prophetic person saw was a musical symbol. It turns out that the recipient of the word had been pondering buying a record store.

o Consolation versus Desolation – Words of Consolation – Words that bring forth hope and not despair, should overshadow Words of Desolation. Words that leave no promise of hope and turning will come under questioning. Jack Deere spoke of visiting a church where he saw in the Spirit that the Assistant Pastor was backstabbing the Senior Pastor. It came upon him strongly in the service. Instead of prophesying that and word that would expose the --- He called both pastor and assistant pastor to stand in front the congregation and handed him some sort of stick and had them stand back to back - God has given you (assistant pastor) a sword and it is to protect and defend the man of God. It caused repentance and healing, reconciliation, without exposure, hurt, rebellion and a church split.

o Use Source/Self/Scriptural Tests Exercise: We want to employ a process of testing and proving the word.

What was (the nature of – EEC) your revelation? How did you receive it (Sight, Sound, Sense)? Did you have trouble figuring out if it was from you/another spirit/or the Holy

Spirit? What test did you use? What was the result of testing the revelation/message? Was it accurate or not? What did you learn from this process?

8. Self-Awareness: Correctly discern where you presently are prophetically. This is not to limit

where you may be ultimately going prophetically. Sense of where we are in our prophetic gifting helps us to avoid big missteps in using our gift. – It may seem almost antithetical that we remind people to function in the capacity of their present gifting and authority since this class is a ‘learning lab’ and we are also encouraging people to stretch themselves a little beyond what they ordinarily function in. However, this is an important principle when outside of this classroom environment to know where you presently are in your prophetic gifting and note that problems may arise when you try to prophesy beyond where you are prophetically in gift capacity or authority level.

Prophetic Protocol Guidelines for this Class and beyond

A. Recognize that you may not have the spiritual authority or release to publicly prophesy over certain persons, places, or issues; even when the Spirit is showing you things about them. Note that you always stand in a position of power and have spiritual authority (exousia) to be released into strengthening and reinforcing the collective anointing and power of the prophetic group. (The importance of teams) Sometimes the greatest prophetic act we can do is to stand in an intercessory role to support the release of that prophetic message or understanding in someone else’s life.

B. Recognize that you may not be in a place to prophetically speak to certain issues. Sometimes you may sense what the issues are, but are not sent or equipped to address it. Other times you may sense that the Holy Spirit is working and moving on someone, but may not yet fully understand or may even misinterpret what it is the Spirit is doing.

9. Awareness of Authority - Remember, it is not that you can never give a leader who is over

you a word. Nor should you become overburden by prophetic protocol so that it stifles the vitality of your prophetic call. But it is really about how and when you do it that may determine the receptivity and effectiveness of prophetic ministry. Part of developing good prophetic discipline is to ensure that you do not become a usurper of spiritual authority and that you demonstrate wisdom as you exercise the gift. The goal here is to strengthen and reinforce the practice of effective prophetic protocol with other leaders above you in your own context. Understanding the Teacher’s role in this course: The role of the teacher and teaching assistants in the class, unless otherwise specified is to: Instruct, Facilitate, Oversee, Evaluate, and provide Feedback on your learning and progress in fulfilling the requirements of this course. I will draw from my experience in prophetic ministry and share with larger class. There have and may be times when, myself or any other of the teaching assistants may serve as the “Receiver” and invite prayers and prophetic utterances in a large group setting to model what it looks like for leaders to receive a word and not only give them. We will specifically indicate when those times are. Typically, if you feel you have a word for myself or any of the teaching assistants and in some cases guest teachers, outside of your small group experiences you are invited to give it to us privately after the class. Unless it directly applies or is absolutely crucial to what is presently taking place within the class activity. Generally, you may take us aside and let us know that you have a word for us and ask if you can share it.

10. Balance freedom with Proper Checks and Balances – The spirit of the prophet is subject to the prophet. Practicing the balance of not quenching the Spirit but checking and subduing your own spirit. Outbursts – try to be intentional about developing your leadership ability. Exercise self-control and discipline.

Prophetic Protocol Guidelines for this Class and beyond

11. Importance of Prophetic Teams: This is your opportunity to develop and exercise your gift

with other prophetic people, so we focus a lot on what is happening among you as you’re being sharpened in the prophetic. The word that is birth in the dynamic of team ministry often is a richer, fuller message from God. This is a school of the prophets – a company of prophetic people learning how to work together to receive and release the revelation of God. Commitment to team ministry is important. Jesus sent them out in teams. As part of its leadership challenge, PureSpring Institute is developing a team model of ministry by raising up facilitators to develop more prophetic leaders. You will have the opportunity at the end of this course to consider how you can be a developer of other prophetic leaders. Team ministry requires submitting one to another in love and can birth tremendous fruit for the kingdom. Prophetic ministers need to be reminded that they don’t always have to be the ‘lone rangers’ or ‘mavericks’ of the group. Pay attention to the group dynamics – Be alert when we gather for a time of prophetic intercession, worship and release. As a prophetic person it is a time where edification for you will happen primarily through engaging the Spirit’s work on the whole group dynamic. This does not mean that you cannot worship the Lord and be caught up in intense fellowship with God. The capacity to be really anointed, spiritually saturated and pay attention to group dynamics and the Holy Spirit working among other people in the room. When you are ministering together with a team, it is not like your personal prayer time where you can get ‘lost’ in the Spirit. You are serving together with others and listening to God together with others.

Understanding “Prophetic Activations"

An Overview of Purpose with Helpful Tips for Ministry

Because PureSpring Institute is a training center that encourages impartation and activation, there are times during our classes when students are asked to pray for one another. In particular, the School of Prophetic Leadership creates a ‘learning lab’ designed for people to stretch themselves a little beyond what they may ordinarily function in through these activation sessions. Releasing students to ‘practice what they have just learned is an important step in the training and maturation process. Many powerful breakthroughs can result because of the prophetic prayers and ministry one to another.

Whenever students are released to pray or prophesy over one another, it can bring a great blessing, but occasionally, it may open the door to some error since we are all still learning! We sometimes receive feedback from students who believe the prayer they received from another student was off-track or judgmental. We would like to address this issue from a maturation standpoint.

Most Christians who are around the prophetic have, at some point, received a prayer, prophetic word or ministry that was off-track in some way. We need to understand that every person in the body is still learning and growing in the prophetic. People are at different stages of growth, not only in their prophetic gifting, but in the sanctification and healing/deliverance process.

As we learn and grow, we all make mistakes. The issue is not whether or not mistakes will be made, but in learning how to handle situations when we feel we have been given a wrong word. We have written some tips below.

1. Tell the Group Leader you feel the word is inaccurate. Dialogue with the Group Leader to see if the situation can be redeemed.

2. Forgive the person (in private) and release them to the Lord. 3. Be willing to pray about the word at a later time. The word may have been exposing a blind

spot in you that you do not see. Also, the word may have been correct, but the spirit or delivery of the word incorrect.

4. Do not receive any words you feel are not from the Lord. 5. Break the power of wrong words and bind demonic spirits from attaching to you. 6. Let go of the situation and move forward. Do not allow the enemy to use this as a setback or

distraction!
