We are excited to celebrate our friend, our colleague, and our CABI partner Nina at an upcoming event – watch for de- tails then mark your calendars! Jewish Cultural Festival Film Screening, 2013

Chicken Soup Group Tamara is married to Dan Ansotegui, musician and restaura-teur. Welcome Tamara!

Thank you, Nina! The CABI community expresses its heartfelt appreciation for the marvelous, innovative, creative, and steady job Nina Spiro did as our first ever Synagogue Director. Hi! My name is Jonah Kaufman, and I am in 7

love gymnastics and piano. My Torah portion is called b’haalotecha. I enjoy going to the synagogue every week to see my CABI friends and every-body else at the synagogue. Please

join me in celebrating my bar mitzvah on June 2. I look for-ward to seeing you there!

Sam Edrich Bard Bar Mitzvah

June 16 Howdy! My name is Sam Edrich Bard and I am having my bar mitz-vah on June 16

th.

I go to North Junior High. In my spare time, I like to play basketball, hang out with my friends and play Fortnite. I really like working with all types of animals and volunteering at the Humane Society.

My Torah portion is called Korach and is about the rebellion of Korach. I really appreciate Rabbi Dan and Shira Kronenberg for all their work preparing me for my Bar Mitzvah. I hope you can join us on June 16. See you then!

Hannah Dornfest Bat Mitzvah

th grade in

the fall. My favorite sport is bas-ketball, and my favorite class is physical science. My Torah por-tion is “Shelach lecha.” I would

like to invite you to celebrate my bat mitzvah with me on June 9. Hope you can come.

Petra Hoffman Bat Mitzvah

June 30 Please join me at my bat mitzvah on June 30th when I will join our Jewish Community as an adult. I'm in 7th grade at Sage Inter-national School and love English class.

Cooperative Preschool Completes 3rd Year

T he Cooperative Preschool completed its third academic year on the CABI campus. CABI and the Preschool are

pleased to have signed a lease agreement for the 2018-19 academic year. Each year the Preschool has an educational visit by some very large snakes, and this year CABI staff got to meet them. The snakes were closely supervised, of course, as were the students and the CABI staff!

Founded in 1969, The Cooperative Preschool was the first secular pre-

school in Boise. It is now accredited by NAEYC (the National Association for the Education of Young Children). For more information about their wonderful programs for toddlers and preschoolers ages 1-5, visit their website at www.cooperativepreschool.org or call their Director, Anne Ciril-lo, at 208-342-7479.

June Worship Calendar

Tuesday Talmud Study (In English) on June 5 and 12

For beginners and veterans alike. We discuss passages that touch on contemporary concerns, and learn more

about the Talmud and why it continues to be the central text of our tradition. Bring a brown-bag lunch at noon to

these weekly sessions.

The July / August combined Chai Lights deadline is Friday, June 22.

Email submissions to Nancy Feldman at [email protected].

We welcome notices of births, weddings and deaths for inclusion in our Life Cycle section.

Note: During July and August, our Friday night services will move to our traditional summer time of 6:00, with only a short kid-dush to follow, so that all may enjoy the long summer evenings for Shabbat dinners at home. A few of these services, which will be noted, will be done “picnic style” at Kathryn Albertson Park. The significant change is that with our new ShabbatTogether initiative, as we go into the fall, instead of switching back to 7:30, our Kabbalat Shabbat services will remain at the 6:00 time throughout the coming year—with a focus on enjoying Shab-bat dinners together, in homes and at CABI—after the service. More on this exciting change in coming weeks.

Friday, June 1—7:30 pm Shabbat Evening Service Saturday, June 2—10:00 am Shabbat Morning Service and Bar Mitzvah of Jonah Kaufman Portion Beha’alotechah: Numbers 8:1-12:16 Friday, June 8—7:30 pm Shabbat Evening Service Saturday, June 9—10:00 am Shabbat Morning Service and Bat Mitzvah of Hannah Dornfest Portion Shelach L’chah: Numbers 13:1-15:41 Friday, June 15—5:30 pm Early Bird Shabbat/Shabbat Unplugged Song Session and Service

Coming in August: August 9-12 Teen Backpack Trip in the Sawtooth Mountains

Adult Education Returns in Late August: June will be the last month for our Talmud study class. These sessions—

and the rest of our adult learning classes which concluded in May—will be on summer hiatus. Talmud and other ses-sions will return in the fall. Watch for details of discussion sessions leading into High Holy Days, tentatively planned to start late August. If you have suggestions for next year’s classes, please contact Sandy Berenter.

Mazel Tots We're on summer vacation and look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Jewish Journeys finished in May. School will resume around Sukkot.

Enjoy your summer.

Adult Refugee Tutoring at CABI Completes Second Year

Under the auspices of the So-cial Action Committee, LDS volunteers completed a sec-ond year of using the Social Hall for tutoring English and citizenship skills with African adults, mostly from Somalia. Many of these adults also have plots in the CABI Com-munity Garden. While the adults are studying, their pre-kindergarten children have English-focused play and learning time in Classrooms 1 and 2. Pictured here are two adult students carrying home

the donated diapers they received on the last day of tutoring. Interested in volunteering on Tuesday and Thursday after-noons in 2018-19? Contact Social Action Chair Tom Rogers: [email protected] or LDS tutoring coordi-nator Marla Hansen: [email protected] for information.
