INTRO TO THE IPAD

Considerations for use

iPads are meant to enhance patient care and resident education – not a substitute for knowing your patient!

These are your personal devices – you can customize them as you like

We have a list of highly recommended apps and weblinks that we suggest you use

WiFi connectivity is improving, but there are still areas where signal will drop

iPad Etiquette

Not a substitute for knowing your patient Avoid chart searching while presenting (non-presenting

team member can check that last CHF clinic note, etc)

Do not enter orders in the middle of your patient presentation

It may be useful to designate one person to enter in critical orders and consults on the iPad during rounds to avoid duplicate order entry

Do not use during conferences

iPad policy highlights

iPad policy will be available soon Wiz order entry at home

Prevent dual order entry by the day and night teams. If you forgot to put an order in after you have left for

the day, page the night team directly

iPads are fomites! Do not use them in contact precaution rooms

If your iPad is stolen

A remote device wipe may be required, which clears all information stored on the device and returns it to the original factory settings

You can do so by logging into your email account online and following the directions found here: http://its.vanderbilt.edu/vmail/owawipe
