INTRODUCTION
Technology or Information Technology is fastest growing industry and is expected to be the main driver for the world economy. Technological advancement is changing the way we live today on daily basis as new innovation and solutions are introduced. A sign of a very face paced industry where the size of a company can grow over night and pool of knowledge workers flows faster than other profession.
A research back in 2009 conducted by Hewitt Associates showcase the turnover rate
in Malaysia experienced a minor surge of 0.8 percent from 9.3 percent (2008) to 10.1 percent (2009) and suffered another increase of 2.9 percent to 13.0 percent in 2010.
Being the fastest growing industry at a global scale, High-Tech/IT Industry led the
pack by contributing the highest share of the overall turnover rate. Better external opportunity, limited growth opportunities, External Equity of Compensation and to further studies are the top reason talents leave their job for other opportunities.
Therefore, this research focus on identifying patterns of job satisfaction and
motivation among IT employees, to investigate the relationship between motivation and job satisfaction among IT employees as well as to identify significant categories of motivation that have strong influence on job satisfaction for IT employees.
In this study, Monetary and Non-Monetary Motivation were identified as the two
factors impacting Job Satisfaction. Thus it will provide a better understandings and insights to management of IT Department on what motivation measures to take to improve Job Satisfaction which will in turn reduce the turnover rate. This is important to retain individual talent that are important to the company.

UNDERSTANDING JOB SATISFACTION
Job Satisfaction is a type of satisfaction that an individual receives from employment when they perform the job being assigned to them. The satisfaction obtained might be from either the working environment or the type of job performed. It is also the extent to which an individual likes or dislikes his / her job.
Other definitions on Job Satisfaction includes the employee eagerness to come to
work, performed in the work, employee happiness and not leave the job, and the job can fulfil his / her needs as well as state of emotional gladness of an individual which resulted from the achievement obtained from a job.
Apart from these, Job Satisfaction also can be defined as a pleasurable emotional state
of an individual resulting from the job’s appraisal, an affection one has towards his or her job or the positive attitude towards the job.
In management point of view, they need to create an employment policy that will suit
the work environment and organization level. Larger corporation might have the ability to stretch resources in order to retain employee, but for Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) their decision is limited based on their limited resources. Thus understanding the driving force of job satisfaction driven by Monetary and Non-Monetary Motivation will help them to create a sound and sustainable employment policy.
