I conducted two interviews, one filmed one with a psychology teacher and one with a 16 year old girl who uses social media and that was a question/answer one which I wrote up a transcript for

The filmed interview will be directly below this Slideshare file. These are the questions I asked within it and why I asked them

What are your views on teenagers using social media and do you think it affects their mental health in later life? Why will it affect them? How? In what aspect of life?I asked this question because it was the main answer to the story I was doing so I thought I might as well go in and just ask even if he gave me parts of an answer I’d be happy because they’d all be things that would be useful to use

According to a recent poll, 22% of teenagers log onto their favourite social media site more than 10 times a day, how do you think that is affecting their life?

I found out this statistic while looking at the other articles, I thought it would be good if I could say the statistic in the programme and then go ‘well I asked psychology teacher about this and…’ I also thought it was quite a weird statistic to think about, a fifth of teanagers look at their social media more than 10 times a day.

Why do you think teenagers feel the need to log onto social media? Will this affect them mentally in the future? Do you think there should be some sort of limit to how long you should spend on these sites? Mr Watkins is a psychology teacher and I really wanted to know if he knew why this addiction lets call it was a thing and whether a limit needs to be put in place before it gets maybe dangerous for people involved.

Where do you see social media going in the future, do you think it will get worse and teenagers mental health with it?I wanted to come back to my overarching question by talking about the future and whether social media affects you in the long run.

Who, in your opinion, is most affected by social media's grasp?I wanted to know whether he thought anyone else but teenagers are being seriously affected by social media

When, in your opinion, do most people first experience social media? Do you think the age is too young? Should there be classes specifically teaching teenagers about the dangers of social media?I wanted to know ways of moving on and helping the issue at hand, I had a thought about specific classes warning the dangers of living you life online and as well as horrible people on there the mental health issues that come with that

What I want to get from this interview? To find out about Mr Watkins views on the matter and establish a good knowledge base as to why some of these negative effects occur on social media. I think the questions pose some interesting angles on the subject where his opinion will be interesting because he has a wider knowledge on mental health and where things stem from brain wise.

The second interview I conducted was this one with Maria, a 16 year old girl who regularly uses social media

Because there are quite a few questions I’m going to discuss why I chose that sort of style of question. I started off with a ‘how often’ question because I wanted to grasp what sort of social media person she was. I asked questions like do you ever feel sad, anxious, jealous or worried on social media because I wanted to get if there were any concerns that the platform gave her. I also wanted to know if she felt any pressure from being online and to make and upload a really good photo. I feel like from such questions as ‘how do you feel when you get lots of likes on a post’ Maria replied that ‘it feels good’ which leads me to understand that’s how people get addicted because they like getting that rush of good feeling and proudness I guess when a photo or post is popular with your friends I think there a certain feeling of accomplishment. Overall, from this interview, I wanted to get a real life account of someone on social media and their first-hand true feelings about being online and the extras that brings.
