In the Gospel of John chapter 10, Jesus says “I have come that they may have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” (Message version) The good Shepherd, as he calls himself, then gives us the key to this expansive abundant life in the verses that follow. He describes His sacrificial relationship with those of us he refers to affectionately as His sheep. He says “My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they know me and they follow me. I give them real and eternal life.” It is our simple pursuit of connection with Christ that gives us access to this bountiful existence and not (thank God) our ability to meet some material expectation. This simple gospel of grace gives us the freedom to see all of our short comings as a place where grace is at work taking us from who we’ve been to someone a little more Christlike. If we will be humble and courageous enough, our failures, in the light of grace, can become encouragement for someone else. Christian community sees through the eyes of grace. When we remember that grace is the transforming factor in our journey to Christ-likeness, we can be vulnerable and accepting of others where ever they are. Our individual lives (our struggles, our victories, and, yes, our failures) create a synergy within our community that propels us Christ-ward. That is what I show up each week for. Here at FBC, we aren’t looking for perfection, we are looking for real people living real, imperfect lives bathed in radiant grace. We can take off our masks and be known as we seek to know Him together. I hope to see you Sunday, Dan Gaudinier Contemporary Worship Pastor

As I sit in Metro Cafe, looking out on Broad Street, listening to the honest chop of a mandolin on some Americana anthem pouring out of the speakers, I can’t help but think about how an abundant life is born of the simplicity of the Gospel. We live in a complex, fast-paced world where technology and times change in the blink of an eye. Truth drowns in a sea of information and we find ourselves wishing for a handbrake on the spinning earth. In the Gospel of John chapter 10, Jesus says “I have come that they may have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” (Message version)

The good Shepherd, as he calls himself, then gives us the key to this expansive abundant life in the verses that follow. He describes His sacrificial relationship with those of us he refers to affectionately as His sheep. He says “My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they know me and they follow me. I give them real and eternal life.”

It is our simple pursuit of connection with Christ that gives us access to this bountiful existence and not (thank God) our ability to meet some material expectation.

SINGLE ADULT MINISTRY

What Is Worship Care? It is is one of our important ministries for families with preschool age children. During worship, parents bring their preschool age children to the Preschool Building where they encounter loving adults who rock, feed, change, teach, and play with each child on the child’s developmental level. This ministry is supported by volunteers from our congregation. Our volunteers have background checks completed and are supported by our Preschool and Children’s ministry team. All resources and supplies are carefully crafted and gathered for our volunteers each week and the resources support what our children learn during their Sunday School hour. Do you know how many volunteers it takes to fully staff each classroom each week? It takes 624 adults for the entire year. If every volunteer would be willing to work twice a month that equals 312. At this point in our recruiting for 2019, we need 60 volunteers to provide this important ministry without having to combine classrooms. Please consider contacting Melissa about the opportunities you have to be a child’s first encounter with a loving, caring, teaching example of Christ. You can reach Melissa at [email protected] or 706-733-2236 ext. 209, or leave your information with Leah [email protected] or 706-733-2236 ext. 216 and Melissa will get in touch with you.

Singles & Friends Lunch Sunday, February 3, 12:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, Room 1. RSVP no later than noon, February 1 to Anita at 706-399-0507 or [email protected].

Men, you are invited to the Wednesday Morning Prayer Breakfast in the Missions and Activities Center Grill from 7-8 AM for food, fellowship, devotion and prayer. If you have questions, please contact Bob Scaggs (803 279-7849) or email [email protected].
