Interviewing is, undoubtedly, a nerve wrecking experience. One from which some end up victorious, while others do not make it to the finish line of landing that opportunity that they interviewed for. Don’t panic! It is impossible to get offers on 100% of the applications that a person completes. However, what is possible is practicing to become a better interviewer. The staff in Career Services can help you become the interviewee that gets results. We will guide you as you navigate the interview process and expose you to a variety of interview possibilities, such as the phone interview, the in person interview, the online interview (via Skype, WebEx or another online platform), the panel interview, and dining interview. Depending on the type of interview that you will have, you can use certain techniques to ace the interview. Always with a smile on your face, especially because enthusiasm can be transmitted over the phone, in person or on camera. Come see us this summer and become a pro at interviewing!

Meet Our Bobcat of the Month!
Highlight on the New SGA President
Jamar Alexis is a student pursuing a BBA in Sports
Administration at St. Thomas University. Though he is
only going into his third year at the institution
beginning this August, he is expected to be graduating
in the coming May. He is currently maintaining a 3.89
GPA. In addition to being a full time student, this year
Jamar was a Resident Assistant, a Student
Ambassador, and the Vice President of Public
Relations for the university’s Toastmasters chapter.
Also, in April he was elected to become the next
President for St. Thomas University's Student
Government Association. Furthermore, Jamar was a
student athlete, playing basketball for the school up
until this Spring semester when he was able to receive
an internship position with Florida International
University’s Game Management and Operations
Department.
Jamar learned of this internship opportunity through a
networking event that was produced by St. Thomas University’s Sports Administration program. At the
event, representatives from various organizations, companies, and institutions came and presented to the
students, and provided both work and internship opportunities. Most of the representatives were St.
Thomas alumni. Jamar was able to network and communicate with representatives from The Miami FC,
The Miami Heat, and Florida International University in the weeks after the event. All the aforementioned
extracurricular activities helped Jamar to be a better prepared, well-rounded candidate. Through his
attendance of the event, his following up with the various presenters he met with, and the continuing
assistance of Ms. Cristina Lopez from Career Services throughout the process, Jamar was able to secure
this opportunity for himself and was able to gain his first real professional experience in the field of
sports. He was also the youngest prospect selected to intern with them, the rest being fourth-year seniors.
Jamar is looking forward to making his last year as an undergraduate student with St. Thomas University
his best year yet! He would advise any STU student to utilize the services provided through Career
Services, as he genuinely feels they have helped him to become successful in these pursuits. Knowing
how to update your résumé, dress professionally, and find various opportunities with different companies/
organizations is extremely useful for the professional world. Lastly, and most importantly, Jamar
expresses that students need to give their absolute best effort in anything they pursue in life, because you
never know who is watching around you, and you never know when an opportunity can arise. Upon his
graduation in May of 2019, Jamar will probably continue his studies in graduate school, and is currently
deciding what field he will specialize in for his Master’s Degree.

Quick Tips for a Successful
Interview
1. Do be prepared to answer the basic
questions about your qualifications
and goals.
2. Don’t ask too many questions or,
conversely, fail to ask any questions
at all.
3. Be prepared to discuss compensation
and benefits, but don’t bring it up too
soon or dwell on either point of
discussion.
4. Always come prepared with a well
written, printed résumé and be
familiar with what’s on it.
5. Listen carefully to what your
interviewer is saying. Don’t interrupt
him or her, but be prepared to
respond enthusiastically and
articulately.
