    Internet Integration Lesson Plan:

    Lesson Title: Naming Nouns

    Subject: Grammar (common nouns)

    Overview: This lesson is designed to teach primary aged students (grades 1-2) about nouns. The lessonuses various web tools to guide the instruction. Students should have basic keyboarding and internet

    skills for this lesson. Students will be using online tools to create projects.

    Resources Needed:

    *A Smartboard for instruction

    *computers with internet access for each student

    *printer

    Target Audience: Grades 1 2

    Time Frame: 2 hours

    Standards Addressed:ELA2W1 The student begins to demonstrate competency in the writing process. The studentm. Uses nouns (singular, plural, and possessive) correctly.

    Objectives:Students will use various web tools to learn about nouns.

    Students will use web tools to create noun related products.

    Students will be able to identify pictures of images which are nouns.

    Students will be able write/type words that are nouns.

    Introduction:What are nouns?

    Begin the lesson by accessing the nouns power point at Petes Powerpoint Station. Go to

    http://www.freeclubweb.com/powerpoints/languagearts/nouns.html and click on the Name it link.Review the powerpoint using it to guide instruction about nouns. This is an interactive powerpoint

    that allows students to participate in the instruction.

    Task 1:

    At this point in the lesson, students will need to have individual computers. Students will need to

    access the internet and precede tohttp://www.kidsknowit.com/interactive-educational-movies/free-online-movies.php?movie=nounsthe KidsKnowIt web page. The link will lead them to an interactive

    screen. This web site provides interactive instruction about nouns. Students will click on the play

    button to begin the tutorial. You might want to have students use headphones as the animation

    includes audio.

    Task 2:

    Following the nouns tutorial, students should be instructed to navigate to

    http://www.nga.gov/kids/zone/collagemachine.htm. This is an online collage maker. This is an

    interactive web site which allows students to drag and drop images onto a canvas to create a collage.

    Students are to scroll through the images and find images that are nouns. An example might be a

    picture of a dog, cat, or a car. They are to fill in the white spaces on the canvas with images of nouns.

    When they have completed their collage, they should click on the print button to print out their

    pictures. These pictures can be placed on a classroom bulletin board for others to view, or it may be

    used as an assessment.

    Task 3:

    After students have printed their collage, they should be instructed to navigate to www.Wordle.com.

    This site allows students to create text clouds. This site is easy to use. However, students will need a

    brief demonstration on how to create their clouds before starting the task. Students should enter words

    that are nouns. To differentiate instruction, students may change fonts, backgrounds, and font colors if

    they are able. They should be able to enter at least 10 words. Students may use spelling dictionaries, orword journals for spelling assistance. Students should also be given a copy of the rubric so they will

    know the criteria for grading. When students have completed their clouds they should print their

    projects. This will be used as an assessment for this lesson.

    Assessment:

    The students will be assessed based on the creation of their Wordle projects. Students should show an

    understanding of the concept. For special needs students, or ESL students, the collage could also be

    used for assessment. The Wordle projects will be graded using the rubric below.
