Redwood Valley Outdoor Education Project Presents the 2018 INTERNATIONAL WILDLIFE FILM FESTIVAL Post-fest Tour FRIDAYS, FEBRUARY 23 TO MARCH 23 Ukiah Civic Center, 300 Seminary Avenue Live music, snacks, and socializing begin at 6:15 PM Films begin at 7:00 Tickets at Mendocino Book Company and at the door Series Ticket: $45 for all five nights Single Tickets: $10 suggested donation for adults and $5 for children (films appropriate for older children) Friday, February 23 - “Connections Night” - Live music with Bob Laughton on banjo Secrets of Our Living Planet: The Magical Forest (59 min) Learn how the Canada lynx depends for its prey on a caterpillar high up in the canopy and why the giant trees of the northwest are dependent on bears and salmon. Nature lovers will relish this rare and informative look inside the inner workings of a living forest. Our Last Refuse (35 min.) Tells the story of the sacred homeland of the Blackfeet Nation and the decades long struggle to protect it from oil and gas developers. Friday, March 2 – “The Great Divide NightAn evening of fascinating short films related to the Rocky Mountains. Live vocal and guitar music featuring Sheridan Malone. Friday, March 9 – “Predator Night” with two spectacular films. (Parental discretion recommended) Music features a lively mix of rock, blues, and jazz by Midas Well (Chris Gibson and Char Jacobs). The Hunt – Nowhere to Hide (48 min) More than half the land on Earth is open deserts or grasslands where predators can see their prey and the prey can see them coming. The tactics of the hunt are seen in their sharpest relief. Bears of the Last Frontier - City of Bears (60 min.) Chris Morgan and Joe Pontecorvo set up camp in the heart of Alaska, alongside the largest concentration of grizzlies in the world. It is June and the bears are taking advantage of the long days to feed, mate, and raise new cubs. Friday, March 16 – “Take a Closer Look Night” - Music features Kim Monroe’s mellow bluesy rock. Returning Kingfisher (50 min.) This story takes place along the busiest canal in the world. Special camera setups film underground nest burrows and follow the kingfishers to reveal how these birds have conquered the challenges of this environment. Microsculpture (6 min.) Photographer Levon Biss reveals the many intricate adaptations of insects. Chrome (12 min.) - The looming threat of climate change to our steelhead and salmon is examined. A Leap of Frog (5 min) The unique physical abilities of frogs captured in slow motion. Friday, March 23 – “Good Night to Bring the Kids” Acoustic folk/rock vocals and string music by Steve Hahm and Sid Bishop. Deep Ocean (52 min.) – Deep sea filming in state-of-art submarines captures a world of countless exotic creatures in the depths of Monterey Bay. My Haggan Dream (8 min) – On the island of Saipan, a young girl’s adventure to find sea turtles. Tagging Bumble Bees (6 min) Think Like A Scientist: Boundaries (7 min.)
