Brief: Auto Repair Shop

For this project I plan to use designs and shapes

used in the designs of cars, I wish to plan my building in this manner in order to relate the structure to the

business that it represents, also as cars have an

extensive amount of different parts there are a

extremely large number of sources in which to draw

designs from.

Models:

I was generating ideas by attempting to replicate the turns and bends on the hood and bumper area of some cars and after creating a few pieces of these I rearranged them in order to try and create different structures

The structure in the middle reminded me of the back end of a airplane prompting me to study the designs of airplanes

Recap:While sketching some of my first models came across some interesting ideas

I decided to combine structures from my previous designs in order to create a unique building based on the various aspects of my research

Final Design

When coming up with ideas on how to make my garage different and less ordinary, I searched for innovative takes on building, one that stood out was Zaha Hadid’s BMW building in which the office workers can see as the cars pass by the factory, hence connecting the employees regardless of their roles, However for the employees of a auto repair garage this seems less relevant in which I thought of connecting the customers to the repair process of their cars instead, one way was to have the mechanical staff teach them basic procedures on repair, and identifying problems but this, other than making the building more spacious could not be of useful impact on the design which led me to create a observation deck in which the customers can watch their car being repaired if they so wish.
