Mariela Padilla, DDS, MEd. (Course Co-Director) Assistant Director of Online Distant Education Programs. Assistant Professor of Clinical Dentistry, Division of Periodontology, Diagnostic Sciences and Dental Hygiene, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry.

Specialist in Orofacial Pain and Master in Education. Member of the Online United Nations Volunteer Program since 2011.

This course discusses different models to provide oral health in a community-based setting, engaging the local families, teachers and medical care providers as part of a multidisciplinary team. The role of the different social actors is analyzed, and the strategies for sustainability are discussed. There are many models and each one has its own ins and outs, thus a discussion on successful experiences will help to identify appropriate ways to provide care, promote oral health, and at the same time, have a financially sustainable project.

Natalia Slusky, DDS, PhD, MSDr. Slusky is an Associate Professor of Clinical Dentistry in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry and Public Health at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. She received her MS degree in Health Care Management from Cal State Los

Angeles and focuses much of her teaching and research on healthcare issues including practice behaviors and financial sustainability.

Piedad Suarez, DDSA specialist in Oral Medicine and Oro-facial Pain, Dr. Suarez is an Associate Professor of Clinical Dentistry and Chair of the Section of Geriatrics and Special Patients in the Division of Dental Public Health & Pediatric Dentistry at the Herman Ostrow

School of Dentistry. Dr. Suarez is the Co-Director of the Special Patients’ Clinic at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry.
