intercultural experiences

What do I mean by intercultural experiences? Intercultural is loosely defined as something occurring between people of different cultures. This includes religion and different social groups too. The more obvious example to use for this project is you telling a story of your experience in different countries. Remember, it’s not a rambling account of your last holiday; there needs to be a purpose. For example, my audio essay is about me learning to not chronically over-plan things, rather than just explaining my first trip to the US (you’ll get to see it in a couple of weeks). HOWEVER, if you’ve not travelled much, you’ll need to think outside the box a little. - Have you made friends with people from other cultures since coming to UI? What has that been like? - Have you travelled in the US to somewhere HUGELY different to what you’re used to? - Maybe coming to college from a small graduating class has influenced you in some way – you’ve been experiencing the campus culture. - Do you have a particular curiosity with a country? When did this start? Why? Please also remember this is a personal, exploratory narrative project. That means I want to hear your story! You could be telling it to inform people, to persuade others to undergo your experience, to argue for something or compare cultures, but you must have some personal storytelling in there somewhere. It can be funny and entertaining, educational and informative, or just honest and emotional, whatever you decide Take a risk with the topic proposal if you wish. The more excited you are about composing this and telling your story, the more you’ll get out of it. Regarding grading, I’m going to be getting you to justify your rhetorical decisions for this project, and to critically reflect. The end product is not the focus, but the process of you composing it. More time thinking and making choices now will reflect in your final grade.

- Maybe coming to college from a small graduating class has influenced you in some way –

you’ve been experiencing the campus culture.
