„Only one solution could convince us at all,“ says Tobias Junker. The complete provider in the field of engi-neering specializes in transport, handling, blending and cleaning technologies - from simple equipment to complex pharmaceu-tical plants. Their portfolio includes the development and manufacture of blenders, lifting columns, mobile devices and cleaning systems for the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries as well as special solutions according to customer-specific requirements.

Data for 200,000 Items Must be Managed and OrganizedIn addition to innovation, quality and diversity of their standard products, solutions specifi-cally tailored to customer requirements are among the strengths of SERVOLIFT GmbH. However, the extensive product spectrum has a serious impact on the volume of data, which must be not only managed, but also organized, from design, purchasing and

production through after-sales service: project-relevant documents, data or informa-tion for about 200,000 items must be docu-mented, edited, updated or archived.

Functional Difficulties and Develop-ment Standstill of the PDM solutionFor many years, a PDM (product data management) system was used in the design department at SERVOLIFT GmbH to manage the design data, which was closely linked to the CAD solution SOLIDWORKS. In the course of time, however, the demands on the data management increased, which increasingly led to functional difficulties in the area of the PDM solution. IT Manager Tobias Junker looks back: „Our workday was characterized by long loading and storage times, major problems with concurrent engineering with the handling of write or read access and frequent system crashes. Another important aspect was that it was not possible to have an item-based data management with the existing PDM system. The deciding factor for our reorientation in this area was ultimately the announcement by the PDM manufacturer not to develop its solution further. „Within the scope of a selection process, several market-tested and modern PLM solutions were intensively examined at SERVOLIFT. Those responsible for the decision placed particular importance on the following criteria, among others:

• Interface to the ERP system SIVAS. • Ability to run under Oracle DB.• Ensure integration with the ERP system. • Item-based management and uniform

storage of all design data.

keytech PLM – Seamless Integration to the SIVAS ERP SystemThe integration of a PDM (product data management) solution into the business processes of the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system and thus the construction of an integrated platform is becoming increasingly important. In cooperation with schrempp edv GmbH, a standardized interface was developed, which ensures fast, transparent and secure data synchronization between keytech PLM and SIVAS: Data is collected only once and automatically forwarded - saving time and avoiding errors.

• Seamless transfer of all existing data, such as drawings, models, items, etc.

• Possibility to reproduce missing data, e.g. parts lists on the PLM side data-base.

• Expertise in the replacement of PDM solutions from the CAD-manufacturing environment.

Thinking in Business Processes and not in SystemsDifficulties with interfaces or with database know-how of the providers, lack of flexibility or scalability of the programs or too high acquisition costs - the list of KO criteria during the analysis of the different PLM sys-tems was long. „Only one solution could con-vince us at all,“ says Tobias Junker. „Starting with the functional scope and the adaptability of the software through to the price / perfor-

mance ratio to the consultancy competence of the employees, keytech PLM proved to be the best solution for our requirements.An essential prerequisite when making this decision was, above all, the ability of deep CAD and ERP integration - keytech thinks in business processes rather than in systems, which we see as a clear competitive advan-tage in terms of integration.“

Following the transfer of data, company-spe-cific adaptations, for example in the hand-ling of semi-finished parts or the creation of TIFFs and PDFs, as well as training measu-res and test runs, SERVOLIFT GmbH began using keytech PLM with a total of 30 licenses in September 2012 - interfaces exist for the ERP solution SIVAS as well as to the CAD and E-CAD systems SOLIDWORKS and EPLAN.

Direct Access to Valid Documents from ERP or PLM.Not only the keytech user but also every user in the SIVAS system can access valid production documents in keytech PLM. Project-relevant data, 3D models, quality information, prices, inventories or contract documents from SIVAS are available to every employee involved across depart-ments and practically at the touch of a but-ton: SIVAS masks can be called up directly from the keytech system. The item master is transmitted bi-directionally between the ERP and PLM systems, parts lists including the support of TOS (technical order system) and blank part lists are transferred in one direction. Ricco Blust, who works as a CAD / CAM administrator at SERVOLIFT: „All data can be retrieved instantly and in a manner

that is exactly the same as the CAD / CAM system, over the entire product life cycle. The dangers of double data retention, input errors with manual transfers or lack of revisi-on security are thus excluded.

“30 Users each save about 15 minutes per work day!”The deep integration of PLM, ERP and CAD links all business processes at SERVOLIFT GmbH across departments and is therefore an essential prerequisite for the ever-increa-sing automation for this specialist for hand-ling, blending and cleaning technologies. „From a purely economical perspective, we were able to reduce the loading and storage times by about 15 minutes during the creati-on, transfer or modification of items per user per working day - with 30 users and 20 wor-

king days a considerable savings potential is achieved here,“ says Ricco Blust. Tobias Junker adds: „By integrating keytech PLM into our CAD and ERP systems, the maintenance effort on the ERP side is also reduced to a mini-mum, this means that with com-pletion of the CAD design, the ERP BOM already exists with all assembly-relevant parts.

Both the keytech user and the SIVAS user can access valid pro-duction documents without having to keep them redundant or change the system they are using.“
