San Antonio, Texas Topic Summaries

Leading Through Influence Anne Grady President & CEO, Anne Grady Group Leadership is the art of positively influencing the attitudes, behaviors, and skills of others. Regardless of title, a leader is someone who builds trust and credibility, communicates effectively, and knows how to leverage the strengths and motivators of themselves and others. Rather than react to problems, great leaders develop strategies to proactively minimize them. Through a combination of emotional intelligence, powerful communication, and an understanding of human behavior and motivation, these leaders constantly challenge themselves and bring out the best in others. Effective leaders modify their approach, leading others as they need to be led. This means communicating to get it right, rather than be right. Anne Grady is an internationally recognized speaker and author who shares humor, humility, refreshing honesty, and practical strategies that can be applied both personally and professionally to improve relationships, navigate change, and triumph over adversity. She will take you out of your comfort zone and then lift the bar on personal and professional learning and development – all while keeping you laughing while you are learning! With a master's degree in organizational communication and more than 20 years of experience working side-by-side with industry gurus, political and educational leaders, and executives, Anne addresses audiences worldwide on topics including change management, resilience, leadership, communication, and emotional intelligence. In her book, 52 Strategies for Life, Love & Work, Anne provides practical strategies to improve relationships, increase productivity and reduce stress. In her new book, Strong Enough: Choosing Courage, Resilience and Triumph, Anne draws from her personal life experiences that touch the hearts and minds of audiences helping them use adversity as a catalyst to grow "strong enough". Anne is a two-time TEDx speaker, and her work has been featured in Harvard Business Review, Entrepreneur, Forbes, Fast Company and Inc. magazines, CNN, ESPN, and FOX Business. Where Are We Today….Tax Reform Brandy Vannoy, CPA Partner Johnson Lambert LLP The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 was signed into law on December 22, 2017 bringing the biggest change to US tax law in over 30 years. This session will discuss the key impacts of this sweeping reform. We will cover the provisions in new tax law that impacts corporations and insurance companies specifically. This session will cover the impact of tax reform on SSAP 101 admissibility and highlight the changes for 2018 tax year and beyond. Our session will include considerations that a company should be making internally to account for these law changes.

Cyber Incident Responses for Insurance Companies Kiel E. Murray Senior Manager Crowe Horwath Organizations must be prepared to face this growing threat both proactively through testing and monitoring as well as after the fact. Given the volume and sophistication of attacks, it’s often not a matter of if but when a breach will occur. This session will cover the key steps an insurance organization can take to plan for this eventuality. Those who participate in this session should be able to do the following afterward:

• Define an indicator of compromise and how you can identify which are important to your insurance organization

• Recognize what types of incidents you should prepare to defend against and identify the type of information that should be included in an incident response plan

• Discuss the technical controls and tools that will be necessary to have in place when a breach occurs Mr. Murray is a Senior Manager with Crowe and has over 9 years of experience in the Information Security industry in both the public and private sectors. Mr. Murray specializes in Cybersecurity assessments (penetration testing, architecture reviews) as well as Incident Response investigations (forensic analysis and malware reverse engineering). Mr. Murray works with small to medium sized banks evaluating areas such as Network Architecture, Windows and Active Directory, databases, virtualization and mobile. Glassman Managing Director & Head Economist JPMorgan Chase & Co Mr. Glassman will provide a comprehensive economic update focusing on current outlook issues, now that the economy appears to have recovered from the recession, including what it means for the interest rate outlook. As the peak of the business cycle approaches, the most important economic indicators show the expansion could continue for some time. The 2008 recession was unusually deep, but the economy has emerged on a stable footing. Inflation has remained tame, even in the face of nearly full employment, and growth has persisted despite gradually rising interest rates. At the end of the first quarter of 2018 the economic outlook is bright. Come to this session for a mid-year update on the economy and business climate and receive updates on the following and more:

• Economic forecasts agree on continued growth • Rising Yields as a Bullish Signal on the health of the economy • On-target inflation rate setting the stage for interest rate normalization • Global Trade increases as a generator of widespread prosperity • Deficit Issues anticipated as unlikely this business cycle

As managing director with JPMorgan Chase and head economist for Chase Commercial Banking, James Glassman provides market insights to help clients better understand the changing economy and its impact on their business. Mr. Glassman also works closely with the firm’s Corporate Sector, including the Chief Investment Office and Investor Relations, as well as the Investment Bank and Government Relations groups, providing financial analysis and research.

A publisher of independent research on the principal forces shaping the economy and financial markets, Mr. Glassman is regularly cited in the financial media, where he is also a frequent commentator on economic policy issues. Additionally, he is a long-standing participant in the widely-followed Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia Survey of Professional Forecasters and the National Association of Business Economists’ panel of macro-economic forecasters.

From 1979 through 1988, Mr. Glassman served as a senior economist in the Research & Statistics and Monetary Affairs departments at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. His responsibilities ranged

from analysis and forecasting of inflation and labor market developments, to analysis of the Federal Reserve’s operating strategies and interest rate markets, to the development of monetary and reserves projections. Mr. Glassman earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Illinois, Chicago. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University. GAAP and Statutory Accounting Update James Garner, CPA BKD, LLP Join us as we review recent GAAP and Statutory pronouncements.
