GUÍA No.1
I. Let’s read together
Eating For Sports.
When you play a sport, you make sure you have the equipment you need, like your glove for baseball, cleats for soccer,
and high-top sneakers for basketball. You couldn't play the game very well without this gear. But how do you help your
game from the inside out?.
You shouldn't go swallowing a pair of shin guards, that's for sure! But you should consider swallowing some healthy food
packed with the nutrients you need. The right foods and drinks can help you be a better athlete.
Professional athletes know this is true. In fact, many professional teams employ dietitians and nutritionists — people
who know a lot about healthy eating.
Eating a balanced diet means choosing a wide variety of foods and drinks from all the food groups. It also means eating
certain things in moderation, namely saturated fat, cholesterol, refined sugar, salt and alcohol. The goal is to take in
nutrients you need for health at the recommended levels.
• Carbohydrates: these provide a source of energy.
• Proteins: these provide a source of materials for growth and repair.
• Fats: These provide a source of energy and contain fat soluble vitamins.
• Vitamins: these are required in very small quantities to keep you healthy.
• Mineral Salts: These are required for healthy teeth , bones, muscles etc.
• Fiber: This is required to help your intestines function correctly; it is not digested
Practice
When it's time to practice or play, you'll get energy from the foods you've been eating all week. But it's still a good idea
to eat well on that day. If you're going to eat a meal, have it 2 to 4 hours before practice or game time. If you have a full
stomach, your body will need to spend energy digesting food, leaving less for you to use in your game or practice. The
best pre-game meal includes carbohydrates and protein for energy, but is low in fat and fiber, which can slow digestion.
But you don't want to be hungry either. Bring a snack, especially for long practices, competitions, or all-day events. Half
a sandwich, fresh or dried fruit, or a small handful of nuts are all good snacks. Sports bars, or energy bars, are
convenient, but they aren't necessary for athletes. You can get the same energy from healthy foods.
Construir textos básicos con diferentes temas, utilizando el vocabulario nuevo y los modales can / could.
Avoid sugary stuff like sodas or candy bars right before you practice or compete. You might get a little energy boost, but
it will fade fast, leaving you feeling drained. But eating and drinking the right stuff will help you play your best. Now, go
out there and have a great season!
Exercise 1: Look at the food pyramid above and create the perfect menu for you. Don´t Forget you should have at
least three meals day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Make sure you include all the nutrients for a healthy diet. It must
allow your body to be perfectly fit.
Breakfast Lunch Dinner
