For more information, see our best practices at

service.sap.com/licensekey - Spotlights.

Solution

There are different processes for installing license keys that depend on

which SAP software technology you use.

SAP Netweaver AS ABAP systems (Release 7.10)

Install the permanent license key as follows: In the SAP menu, choose

"Administration" -> "System Administration" -> "Administration" -> "SAP

Licenses" or call transaction SLICENSE.

o In transaction SLICENSE, choose "New Licenses" to access the "SAP

License Administration # Digitally-Signed License Keys" tab page.

SAP Note 870871 - License key installation

Install the digitally-signed license key at operating system level:

Using the parameter saplikey-install <file name> , the system can read the

license data from the license key file.

Prerequisites:

As of Release 4.5A, the database interface library is linked dynamically.

So that saplikey can find this library, you must set the following

variables in the environment of the user who calls saplikey: dbms_type =

<database type> (for example, ora, inf, ada, mss, db2, db4, db6)

DIR_LIBRARY = <path_for_dynamically_linked_database library> (for example,

/usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run)

User for saplikey:

You must be logged on as user <sid>adm. This ensures that all of the

required environment variables are set correctly.

You use the program saplikey for setting up, checking and administering the

digitally-signed license keys in your system. It is stored in the directory/usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/exe/run.

Remark: For Microsoft Windows, replace the forward slash / with a back

slash \ in all path names.

Always enter the commands under the specification of the profile: saplikey

pf=<profile> <command> <product>

SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP systems (Release 7.0)

Digitally-encrypted license key as of AS 7.0.

As of AS 7.0, you should install the new digitally-signed license key. This new, digitally signed license key avoids additional database accesses,

thus improving performance.

Install the permanent license key as follows:

o You are in the initial screen of transaction SLICENSE.

o Choose New Licenses.

o Choose Install.

o In the dialog box, specify the file to be loaded.

o You receive a success message that you must confirm. The new

license is displayed under Installed Licenses.

Note:

You can install only license keys of the standard license type and

SWPRODUCTNAME= NetWeaver _database (in the license key file).

Install the digitally-signed license key at operating system level:

You use the program saplikey for setting up, checking and administering the

digitally-signed license keys in your system. For more information, see

Note 1227762.

SAP Note 870871 - License key installation

You can use transaction SLICENSE to manage license keys for Release 4.6C in

your SAP system. In the SAP menu, choose "Administration" -> "System

Administration" -> "Administration" -> "SAP Licenses" or enter the

transaction code SLICENSE.

SAP systems without Web AS (lower than Release 4.6C)

The sap license commands saplicense -install, -get, -show, -temp and

-delete are always available at operating system level.

Temporary license key

These are available by calling transaction SLICENSE or via the operating

system level saplicense -temp.

In the following cases, you may be required to install a temporary license

while you wait for the license you requested from SAP:

o Changes to the hardware configuration of the host that runs the

message server. In this case, the hardware key of the host can

also change.

o Transferring the message server to another host.

o The license key for the production system has expired.

When can a temporary license be generated?

o If a valid license key had been installed within the previous

month. If not, the system will issue a message stating that the

date of the last successful license check occurred more than a

month ago.

o If the SAP system is set up from a copy of an existing SAP system,

you cannot install a temporary license.

Using saplicense -temp

1. At operating system level, log on to the host that runs the central

SAP instance either as user <sapsid>adm (UNIX and Windows) or <SID>OFR

(iSeries).

2. Enter saplicense -temp (iSeries: saplicense ' -temp').

When prompted, enter the SAP system ID.

The system displays the following message after the successful installation

of the temporary license: saplicense: Temporary license successfullyinstalled

SAP NetWeaver AS Java (Release 7.10)

Temporary license key

The license key that is generated during the installation is valid for 90

days.

You cannot install another temporary license key.

If the permanent license key has expired, you can install a temporary

license key. In SAP NetWeaver Administrator, choose "Configuration

Management" -> "Licenses" -> "Available Licenses" -> "Extend Temporary".

Install your permanent license key as follows:

SAP NetWeaver AS Java (lower than Release 7.10) - J2EE Enginestandalone

The installation process described below is valid as of SAP J2EE Engine

6.30 and for J2EE Engine standalone installations. If you have installed

SAP NetWeaver AS with ABAP and J2EE, then the installation process

described above under Netweaver AS ABAP applies to you.

You can log on after you install the SAP J2EE Engine, since a temporary

license was automatically installed. You must now request a permanent

license key from SAP and install it.

Prerequisites for installing the license key

You installed the SAP J2EE Engine and started the Visual Administrator

(VA).

Installing your permanent license key:

o Select Visual Administrator Server 0 - Services Licensing Adapter.

o Save the license key file you received from SAP on your host.

o In Licensing Adapter in the Visual Administrator, select "Install

license from file".

o Select the license file you received from SAP and choose "Open" to

continue.

o You receive a message that your license was installed

successfully.

o Restart the J2EE Engine.

Note:

You can only install license keys in the Visual Administrator that have the

license type J2EE Engine or portal name and software product name

J2EE_Engine_database or portal_database (in the license key file).

Generating a temporary license key in Visual Administrator

Select Visual Administrator Server 0 - Services Licensing Adapter. Choose

the tab Runtime - General, and then choose "Install subsequent temporary

license". This is valid for 28 days. After that, you should install a

permanent license key again. You cannot install any further temporary

licenses if the expired license was already temporary.

A newly installed license becomes effective after you restart the J2EE

Engine. This occurs irrespective of whether the license is temporary or

permanent.

SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal

As of SAP NetWeaver '04 Enterprise Portal Support Package Stack 09, the

Enterprise Portal no longer requires a separate license key. The portal isinstalled either on the ABAP stack, or on the J2EE Engine (Java only). See

the installation processes described above.

The system automatically generates a temporary license key during the

NetWeaver AS and Enterprise Portal installation. The license key is valid

for four weeks. During this period, you should request your permanent

license key from SAP. If you use Enterprise Portal 5.0, you must generate

the temporary license key yourself. Log on to the unlicensed Portal 5.0 as

an administrator and select System Configuration - License. Select

"Install temporary license" and restart the Portal Web Server and the Java

servlet engine.

Installing your permanent license key Enterprise Portal 6, Support Package

3 to Support Package 8

o Copy the license key file you received from SAP to a directory on

your host.

o Start Visual Administrator and choose Your Server - Services -

Licensing Adapter.

o Select "Install license from file" to download the license key

file.

o Select the license file you received from SAP and choose "Open" tocontinue.

o Restart the Portal Web Server SAP Java Engine.

Installing your permanent license key Enterprise Portal 6 Support Package 2

and below (including Enterprise Portal 5.0)

your host.

o Log on to the Portal as an administrator and select System

Administration - System Configuration - Portal Licensing.

o Select the license file that you received from SAP.

o Select "Install permanent License".

o Restart the Portal Web Server SAP Java Engine.

If you use Enterprise Portal 5.0 without Support Package 2, you must
