Sentinel plug-in installation for Kaba EXOS
Start by running the provided installer “SentinelExos_Installer” on the server hosting the Milestone
Management server. Once you get to the “Installation Folder” section, the installer should find the right path
automatically. If this is not the case, please select the MIPPlugins folder of the Milestone Event Server. The
default path is “C:\Program Files\XProtect Event Server\MIPPlugins ”.
The installer will stop the “Milestone XProtect Event Server” service, copy the files and then it will attempt to
restart the service. If the service doesn’t restart, it probably wasn’t running in the first place. You need to
change the account of the “Milestone XProtect Event Server” service. To do this, find the service in the
“Windows Services” list, go in the service’s properties and change the account to the “Network service”
account that can be found in the advanced sub-section. The service should be able to start now. If this step
was necessary, please re-run the installer.

Creating an access control system in Milestone
Once the plug-in has been installed and Milestone’s event server service is started, add a new Milestone
access control system by opening the “Milestone Management Client”, clicking on the “Access Control” tab
and adding a new access control system.
A. MAC address
This field displays the MAC address required for a Niklas activation license request.
B. Language selection
This field allows you to select the plug-in’s language. ENG for English, FRA for French. This can be changed
at any time by refreshing the configuration with a different value.
C. NIKLAS activation license
This license can be obtained by making a request through our website.
http://www.niklas.ch/support.html
The message must contain:
The name of the plug-in (Sentinel Exos, Sentinel Flex, …)
Name, Forename, Company name and email address.
The MAC address of the server hosting the Milestone Management Server (Field “A”)
The Milestone license currently in use (see retrieval examples below).
6
For Milestone XProtect Corporate or Expert:
Other XProtect products:
D. Exos Datapoint Server address
The IP address of the server hosting the Kaba Exos 9300 services. If you have the Kaba Exos 9300 services
and the Milestone Management Server on the same server, simply put in “localhost”.
E. Exos Datapoint Server port
By default, the port number is 1005. If you have manually changed this port number to another value, enter
the actual port number in this field.
7
F. / G. Encrypted password recovery for Exos Datapoint Server
To initialize the connection to the Kaba Exos 9300 DataPoint Server, you must first recover a user name
along with its encrypted password.
1. Open the Kaba Service folder, by default located at “C:\Program Files
(x86)\Kaba\Exos9300\Services”
2. Find r9dpserv.exe (Don’t run it just yet)
3. Open the task manager, find the r9dpserv.exe process and kill it.
4. Now run r9dpserv.exe as administrator (right click -> Run as administrator)
5. You should see a dialog window appear. If it doesn’t, it means you haven’t run r9dpserv.exe quickly
enough after having killed the process. If that’s the case, please try again.
6. Log into the Kaba System Management client with an administrator account.
7. Once you have been logged in, the user name and encrypted password will show in the dialog
window. Save this encrypted password and/or copy it directly into the “G” field.
H. / I. / J. SQL server address, user name and password
Get the SQL server address and account information used by the Kaba Exos 9300 services. If you have
trouble finding this information just use an account that has full administrator rights. The Sentinel plug-in will
only read from the SQL database. It never writes or modifies anything contained inside.
8
K. Connection timeout
This field determines after how much time (in seconds) the Sentinel plug-in will consider that a connection to
the Kaba Exos 9300 Datapoint server or the SQL server has been lost.
Setup guide
Configuration check
As soon as all the fields have been properly filled, you may click the “Next” button to start the plug-in. If the
license is not valid or the plug-in can’t connect to the Datapoint or SQL server, an error message will appear.
If the configuration retrieval has succeeded, you will see a list showing all the doors and card readers used
by your access control system.
9
Associating cameras
This step allows you to associate cameras to the card readers of your access control system. You may also
configure these setting later on.
Development property panel activation You can activate the development property panel in the Milestone Management client’s options. This panel
allows extra features for the configuration of your Sentinel plug-in.
10
Surveillance map configuration
Milestone’s 2014 Smart Client allows you to integrate all of your access control system’s elements onto a
surveillance map. Open the 2014 Smart Client, go to the “Live” section and click the configuration button.
Drag & drop a “Map” element inside a view container and select an image for your map. You can add doors,
door controllers, card readers, communication hubs and servers with the integrated tool.
Doorbell and integrated access request notifications configuration
Sentinel allows you to configure binary inputs used in the Kaba Exos 9300 access control system to show
automatic access request notifications when “door bells” are pressed.
Binary input configuration in Kaba Exos 9300
Add binary inputs on “iDML’s” or on “Access Manager’s”
11
Configure the binary input. The name you choose for the binary input will be same in the Sentinel plug-in
properties panel.
Refreshing the configuration
If you add or remove element to/from the Kaba Exos 9300 access control system you mush refresh
Sentinel’s configuration. This is done by clicking the “Refresh Configuration” button in the General settings
tab of the properties panel of the Sentinel plug-in.
12
Associating cameras to door bells
You can associate one or multiple cameras to a door bell. This enables live video feed to appear when the
door bell is pressed. Go in the “DEV: Camera Mapping” tab inside Sentinel’s properties panel, find the door
bells you want to add cameras to and add them to the list of related cameras. If the “DEV” tabs are not there,
go to page 9 to find out how to activate them.
Configuring access request notifications on Milestone XProtect Corporate or Expert
Go in the “Access Request Notifications” tab inside Sentinel’s properties panel and add one access request
notification per door bell. Choose which command(s) you want to associate with them and which door(s) they
are linked to.
13
Add one rule per door bell. You must specify which notification each door bell triggers.
Configuring access request notifications on Milestone’s other XProtect products
Go in the “Access Request Notifications” tab inside Sentinel’s properties panel and add one access request
notification per door bell. Choose which command(s) you want to associate to them and which doors they
are linked to.
14
Testing the door bells
Before testing the door bells, make sure that the access requests are activated in all the Smart Clients that
will be using them in.
If your door bells have been configured properly, you will see an access request notification appear every
time the door bell is pressed. You will also see all the chosen door commands.
15
Configuring the alarms
You must add an alarm definition to Milestone’s configuration in order to receive alarms inside the Smart
Clients. It’s important to choose “Access Control Event Categories” and specify that alarms can be triggered
by all doors. You should also choose the initial alarm priority and which map they are related to.
You can link sound notifications to different alarm priorities. Just make sure that the “Play sound
notifications” checkbox is checked inside all of the Smart Client’s options that you want this feature enable in.
16
Alarm acknowledgement check
When a door is in the alarm state, the door’s icon takes the appearance of a white bell on a red background.
To acknowledge the alarm, simply right click on the door (make sure you click on the door and not a card
reader that might have been put a little too close to the door) and then click the “Acknowledge Alarm” button.
You can also do this from inside the Smart Client’s “Alarm Manager” tab.
The door’s icon should revert back to normal right after you acknowledge the alarm. If that’s not the case,
please follow the steps mentioned below.
