Splitting Quantities
Splitting Quantities In the Split Quantity page(on General Attributes region),You can splitthe original quantity into two or n parts. Oracle Install Base automatically createsserviceable items under serial control with a quantity of one.
Only non-serialized items are created with a quantity greater than one. Oracle InstallBase retrieves from Oracle Contracts the appropriate coverage for the newly createdinstances.
Example of splitting quantities are as follows:
Isolate a quantity for transfer to an end customer

Counters Types
Counters can be of Two types:
Physical Counter An incremental electro-mechanical or software device built into anitem to track equipment usage. These counters are tangible and can rollover to aspecified value, be reset to any value, or replaced if broken during normal operation.
Formula Counter An intangible or derived counter that runs inside a softwareapplication program, keeping track of usage of an item or service. A common logicalcounter is the number of service telephone calls made by a customer against aparticular item or service. Logical counters can be added or combined with othercounters to form a new counter.
Counter Group Can be associated with an item or service and is permitted to have onlyone associated counter group. Group templates can also be applied with multipleOracle Install Base items or contract lines. After a counter group is instantiated, it can bemodified for a single instance or for all instances.
Counter Template A template that is defined for groups of counters and instantiated inOracle Install Base customer items or contract lines. A template can be defined for asingle counter or a group containing one or many counters.

New Features in R12Bill Only Lines in OM and Installed Base Update
(R11i V/s R12)
In 11i:
Usual wisdom till R11i is that install base gets updated or created as customer productwhen we ship the product. This shipping must go through the inventory transaction(remember that we can ship no inventory items as well) in order for the IB to be updatedor created. But to achieve the same for the order lines that do not go through shippingand inventory (like Bill Only lines with fulfillment), we used to extend Order line workflow(supported way) to plug in a function that sends a message to update or createinstance. This used to be upon fulfillment.
In R12:
Stating R12 this is a seeded functionality. The same function that is given to customizethe workflow is added to the order line fulfillment code. Meaning all bill only lines (forthat matter any line workflow that has fulfill node and item is IB trackable) automaticallycreate or update the install base upon fulfillment. But again this is controlled by a profileoption (OM: Automatically Interface Lines to IB on Fulfillment). You can control thisbehavior by setting this profile option value as Yes or No.
