PRIMARY PRODUCTION What an amazing performance the Primary presented to parents and community members last week. For over one hour, we took a journey down memory lane with songs from our favourite musicals being performed by all students at MCS. The lead cast members were confident and well rehearsed for their special roles, improvising at times to ensure a polished performance. Mary Poppins to High School Musical and everything in between was performed. The Hall was decorated with amazing artwork and the props were outstanding. The creativity and effort involved in the costumes was also outstanding and could not have been achieved without the support of parents. Well done to Audrey Brown and her dedicated team in presenting such a wonderful performance and thank you parents for ensuring your child participated in this event that will remembered for years to come. 2018 YEAR 12 GRADUATION Our 2018 Year 12 students finished 13 years of schooling last term. It was a wonderful morning of celebrations and for some sadness as the realisation that life will never be the same again. Each student has different expectations when they complete their Higher School Certificate Examinations next month, with over half applying for university admission and others having lined up a traineeship or apprenticeship. The 2018 students developed into a close-knit group of outstanding young people. Mr Taylor continues to support our students through the exam period as do many other staff members who continue to provide assistance prior to the final exams. I would like to say thank you to parents for supporting their children through their child’s education and respecting and supporting our school and staff. There have been many highlights for the students and also disappointments that have forged the unique individuals that will go on to achieve great things in life. SECONDARY LEADERSHIP INDUCTION ASSEMBLY Last week our secondary students were introduced to the 2019 student leaders. The School Captains are Joshua Dowler and Aaliyah Wright and the Vice Captains are Pedro Oste and Caitlyn Campbell. A feature of the assembly was the pledge the captains provided to the students on behalf of the leadership team. Their address was genuine and sincere and I believe they will be hardworking school leaders who will leave their mark on Molong Central School. I have encouraged the leaders to be an active and visible voice for all students at Molong Central School. NB: PLEASE SEE PHOTOS OF ALL OF THE ABOVE, ON THE FOLLOWING PAGES UNIFORM Students at all NSW Public Schools are expected to wear school uniform. Molong Central School has several options available and will support all students who may be experiencing difficulty in adhering to the wearing of the school uniform. If for any reason you need assistance for your child to wear the correct uniform please contact myself or the Deputy of either the Secondary or the Primary Departments. Mrs Michelle Barrett, Principal

OUR FABULOUS PRODUCTION GAINS RAVE REVIEWS

What a wonderful production was had last week starring all K-6 students in our Primary School Musical performance. The atmosphere was electric with some very excited students ready to perform. Both the matinee and the night performance proved to be very entertaining and very polished. One of the highlights was the inclusion of some old movie and music classics allowing the audience to remininise their own childhood. Congratulations to Audrey Brown who wrote and directed the production as well as the dedication and commitment of all of the K-6 staff who allowed the students of Molong Central to experience such an event. All students should also be applauded for their fabulous contribution. Every student put in 110% and a special congratulations to the main cast who displayed wonderful acting ability to thoroughly entertain the audience throughout the whole show. It was wonderful to hear the wonderful comments from the audience. Some of the comments were: “Bravo! An absolute credit to Molong Central School” “What a fabulous experience for our students” “So entertaining! Well done!” “That was so good! Brought me to tears – happy tears!” Congratulations to one and all! TO ALL PARENTS

It has come to my attention that we have quite a few students coming to school well before 8.30am. There is no supervision at Molong Central School until 8.30am so it is encouraged that students do not arrive until this time. This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students. Mrs Jane Backhouse, Deputy Principal Primary

On Monday of Week 10, we all travelled to Brewongle for the writer’s camp we were selected for. We stayed in cabins that looked like tents and had very low ceilings. Once we had signed in, we were given necklaces that were wooden and had our names on them. We participated in icebreakers and met the other kids. Most of the kids were from Blackheath and Sydney. There were 35 kids in total and 15 of them were from Blackheath! There were 10 boys and 25 girls. Author Simon French led one of our writing workshops and worked on planning and character creation. We got to go on a bushwalk to help us get ideas with Danielle. The food was ok for camp food. We went kayaking and got to see heaps of animals, even a baby crocodile! We made lots of friends and we stayed up really late. We definitely learnt a lot and are glad we applied and were chosen! Written by Alice Wilson and Hannah Burgess who attended the camp with Charlotte Lapins, Evangeline and Dash Jones

On Friday the 14th of September a group of us headed off to Dubbo to represent the Orange District for PSSA Athletics. Jamaine was competing at the same time as me so I got to see him compete in the shot put event. From what I could see, he was doing a great job! He and I got marshalled at 8:30am, so it was a pretty early start. Mrs Brown and I went through the results and they were really impressive! • Deysharna Kenney came 17th in the 11yrs Shot Put. • Grace Parry came 8th in the 12/13yrs Shot Put. • Marley Vandervelde came 15th in the Discus and 12th in the Shot Put 8-10yrs. • Bailey Peschka qualified for State with a whopping 29.15m throw in the Discus and the Shot Put as well. He also very nearly made it in the High Jump with a 4th place. • Jamaine Trapman came 9th in 11yrs Discus, 14th in Shot Put and 23rd in the Long Jump. • Matthew Gregory came 24th in the Shot Put. • Harry Brazier came 9th in the 11yrs 800m • Abbie Lyons got 9th in the 9yrs 100m • Cody Peschka came 8th in the 8-10yrs Shot Put • Lochie Bohringer came 6th in the 8-10yrs Shot Put I qualified for the 11yr Girls High Jump. It was a tough field. It was pretty hot out there but at least it wasn’t slippery like other years. I think came about 7th, not my best jump day but I certainly did my best and had fun! Mrs Brown says that we should always remember that our placement means we are some of the very best athletes in the whole of the huge Western Region area, an area that schools thousands of students! Hopefully we’ll all get another shot at it next year. I think it’s amazing that so many kids from our school got through to Western and I think everyone made our school proud on the day. At the end of Term 3, K-6 students had a disco to raise money for the farmers in the drought. Students came dressed as farmers, farm animals or anything to do with a farm (or just their disco clothes). Students could purchase glow sticks/bands as well. Mrs Brown was DJ and kept the music thumping all night. Thanks to the teachers who were able to help with supervision and distributing chips and drinks. Staff donated the costs of the chips, drinks and prizes so that all money taken from the two discos went into the fundraising. K-6 students were also collecting their 5 cent pieces with the aim to fill a small bucket. When the bucket was full, students were able to have a guess at the value of the coins held in the bucket. There were some amazing guesses, from 25c to $1 000 000. Mrs Ball had the unenviable job of counting all these coins, and was seeing 5c pieces in her sleep! The total held in the bucket was $59.25, and the closest guess was Marley Bunting of 2/3G with a guess of $59. Marley was presented with a small prize at the week 10 assembly. Well done Marley! The total amount raised was $1200, an amazing effort by everyone. As our community is one that is affected by the impact of the drought, and we wanted the money to go to where it was needed, the decision was made to give back to our community in the form of purchasing vouchers from local businesses. Each family K-6 was then put in a draw to win a voucher, and these were drawn at the last assembly of Term 3. There were a lot of students on the edge of their seats, hoping their names would be pulled out. Following are the businesses and the winning families.

On Thursday 27th September, over 50 Molong Central School Primary students travelled into Waratah’s sportsground in Orange for the Primary School’s Touch Football Gala Day. This is a non – competitive day where students from all over the Orange district, from both public and private primary schools, come together to enjoy the game of touch football, learn new skills and have lots of fun. The day provides a fantastic opportunity for students who may not have played the game before to be introduced to the game in a friendly and supportive way. Molong Central School have participated in this annual event for several years now and it always proves to be a very enjoyable day. On the day students were asked to have lots of fun and show respect and good sportsmanship. They certainly did not disappoint. From ensuring they thanked our bus driver, to showing our team managers and referees the upmost respect, as well as supporting and encouraging not only their own team members, but also members of opposing teams, our students proved to be delightful and a pleasure to take to this community event. Never before have we taken such large numbers to this gala day, but we wanted to give as many students the opportunity to attend as we could. To be able to do this we required assistance from parents to manage our teams. A very big thank you to Mrs Vandervelde, Mrs Olsson, Mr Greenwood and Mrs Mills for volunteering their time to assist as team managers. We really appreciate your enthusiasm and assistance on the day. We look forward to attending this day again next year! Mrs Erin Tamati

On Friday the 28th September, Mr Inman and I accompanied five teams of our students from Stage 2 and Year 2 to a PSSA Tee-Ball Gala Day held at Jack Brabham Park in Orange. The day offered our students a wonderful opportunity to learn and build ball striking and handling skills in a fun and non-competitive setting. Each child participated in three games of modified play where runs, strikes and outs were not recorded. While no scores were kept on the day, our students achieved many home runs and classic catches and showed superb sportsmanship to others throughout the game rotations. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr David Ball for organising this fantastic day for the children and our parent helpers Mrs Elise Heath, Mrs Kristy Armstrong and Mrs Adelaide Harris for supporting our staff and students as team managers at the event. Thank you also to Mrs Bale for assisting with our travel and team organisation and for volunteering her personal time to help on the day. Mrs Amanda Collins

This week students will be bringing home Scholastic Book Club catalogues, the second last one for the year. I will be closing the LOOP orders on Saturday 27th October. It is no longer possible for me to process paper orders and cash for Book Club. Due to student commitments last term, Book Week prizes will be presented this week. Students are more than welcome to pick up their entries this week to take home. Unfortunately during the holidays the display shelf with many of the penguins on it was pushed over and broke the clay models. I was extremely upset to discover this when I came back to school last week and apologise to those students who have been affected. Mrs Hall

I was lucky enough to be amongst the first cohort of students to attend Molong Central School as it extended from Year 10 to Year 12. I currently live in Australia’s capital with my son Matthew. Canberra is a great place to live with a good mixture of city amenities but it still has a country feel. I have also lived in Hobart briefly and Sydney for a number of years before returning to Molong and Orange and from there to Canberra. When I left Molong Central School I worked in some really interesting administrative jobs, one in a royal commission into logging in Tasmania and another with the National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour. I wasn’t very interested in study whilst at school, but since then have developed a love of study so have continued to return to it every few years. I have also found that no matter where my career has taken me, I was able to utilise some or all of my previous studies. My first qualification was at TAFE in secretarial studies and then I completed an Advanced Certificate in Personnel Management, whilst I worked in Human Resources management for a few years. I went on to complete an Early Childhood/Primary Teaching Degree. I was drawn to the Early Childhood sector where I worked as a teacher, director, TAFE teacher and area manager. I found my previous admin and HR study useful in managing people, students and programs. I completed post graduate units in Special Education and then a post graduate diploma in management, these along with my other study were useful when I moved in to the disability sector and managed a not for profit organisation. I am currently back in early childhood and redoing my Certificate IV Training and Assessment and have found all my previous studies, are both relevant and useful in my current role as a consultant and trainer. Of course, there is more to life than work and study. I have travelled overseas several times and have visited most states in Australia. I have always been actively involved in some form of volunteer work and I love to catch up with friends, who still love to go out dancing. I also love to garden and go walking and cycling around Canberra’s beautiful lakes and bushland. Although the HSC is often seen as the end or pinnacle of study, no matter where your career takes you there is always something to be gained from further study, whether it is formal or just experiencing life more broadly. I have fond memories of my time at Molong Central and have remained friends with a number of people from those school days.

Chill’n & Grill’n

Molong Baptist Church with the support of Molong Central School is holding its inaugural ‘Chill’n & Grill’n’ afternoon on Friday 2nd November 2018 between 4pm-6pm on the sports oval at the school.

All members of the community are invited to enjoy the Chill’n & Grill’n afternoon which includes a free BBQ, jumping castles, games and prizes including $2,000 worth of vouchers from local businesses to be won.

“The drought has had a significant impact throughout our region and has resulted in many people experiencing anxiety and stress. We wanted to do make a contribution at the grass roots level by giving people of all ages an opportunity to switch off from the pressure for a little while”, said Wayne

Spencer, Pastor at Molong Baptist Church.

Chill’n & Grill’n is designed to be a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon, whilst providing the occasion for families in our community to connect, thereby making a valuable contribution to local mental health and wellbeing. Additionally the focus of having prizes sourced from local businesses means that money is being put back in to the local economy.

“Molong Central School is proud to support this initiative as I have seen first-hand the impact the drought has had on families at our school” said Mrs Barrett, Principal of Molong Central School. “I am also very proud that several of our 11 Business Studies students have donated profits from the businesses they established this year to assist catering for this event”.

Epping Baptist Church in Sydney is providing funding and volunteers for Chill’n & Grill’n as a means of showing support to regional communities impacted by the drought.

For further information please contact Wayne Spencer on 63669376 or 0406 381 233.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST –

DROUGHT COMMUNITIES PROGRAMME 2018

Council is inviting Expressions of Interest from local community groups and residents for projects to be funded under the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Programme, which provides councils with up to $1M for local community infrastructure and other drought relief projects for communities impacted by drought. Funding will target infrastructure and other projects that:

provide employment for people whose work opportunities have been impacted by drought

stimulate local community spending

use local resources, businesses and suppliers

provide a long-lasting benefit to communities and the agricultural industries on which theydepend.

Council will consider the projects at the November council meeting and submit eligible applications to deliver the best possible outcomes for our local area.

Projects such as pest and weed control, community infrastructure upgrades, clearing of waterways where local suppliers and labour can be utilised and initiatives to stimulate the local economy would be highly regarded.

To be eligible, a proposed project must be at least $25,000 and be completed by 30 June 2019. The guidelines of the programme can be viewed at https://www.business.gov.au/assistance/drought-communities-programme#key-documents

Expressions of Interest forms are available from Cabonne Council and should be lodged either online, by email to [email protected] or at council offices by Friday 9 November 2018.
