WHAT IS INJECTION MOLDING ROBOTIC ARM ?

Robotic arm is a device or a machine consisting of a number of engineering

branches put together to produce desired work . Injection molding arms are preferred for injection molding machines because a

person or labourer is always required for ejection of material from the mold

    after the cycle is complete.

But nowadays with the new technology , a new technique of molding called

bi-component moldingis done to obtain products of different color or patentof products i.e. to prevent copy and tamper products .

E.g. specially the caps of bottles are molded using this process to prevent copy

of the products and tampering of products. In this process the product has to

be transferred to different molding machines or on different parts of the same

mold . This work is nearly impossible by a man as lots of time is wasted bylifting the product and then transferring to the other. Hence in this case

pneumatic robotic arms are used to transfer to obtain continuous production

    without any labour requirement .

    WORKING OF INJECTION MOLDING ARM

Most of the artificial arms are based on a simple principle of Mechanical

linkage carries muscle power to the artificial limb, from either theshoulder or the stump muscles.

The Injection Molding Arm consists of two pneumatic cylinders, three

linkages, vacuum cups, and a vacuum generator with desired amount of

pressure to be obtained. The two pneumatic cylinder are attachedperpendicularly to each other to produce motion along two axes . The first

motion by Cylinder 1 in a Xaxis and second by Cylinder 2 in Y axis .

Now if the component is to be lifted using the arm from the injection

molding machine ,then first the cylinder 1 will move ahead by supplying

compressed air . Cylinder 1 will move along the X- axis direction . After the first motion is complete the second cylinder has to move to

    obtain the required motion .

Now , when the air is supplied to the cylinder 2 , it gets actuated by

moving the entire vacuum cup unit along with it in the Y axis direction .

After this movement is complete , the vacuum generator is activated

which produces the vacuum and lifts the required components from themold cavity and the arm returns back in its original position .

Once the motion is complete the vacuum is cut off and the desired

components fall into the storage box placed below the arm .

In this way the complete motion of the arm takes place , thus by performing

the desired function as per design .

The complete working can be understood by watching the video of the

working model to be played .

    DISADVANTAGES OF INJECTION MOLDING ARM

It does not maintain perfect accuracy when not fully atomized

    due to human handling errors.

There are changes of air leakage due to pneumatic

    components used.

Load carrying capacity is less when compared to hydraulic

    arms.

Working area is less as it cannot move on the ground but it

can be overruled by attaching the pnuerobotic arm on a

    moving vehicle

FUTURE SCOPE OF INJECTION MOLDING ARM

This project is being made looking at the future scope . This project is

basically designed for making the production automatic or promotingautomation .This arm will help making the production unmanned and will

help in improving the following features :-

Will help in increasing the rate of production .

Improve the quality of production . Reduced human effort.

Reduce overall cost of the product .

    Reduced dependability on labour .

    Reduced cycle time of project.

    Improved productivity .

    Conclusion

This project aims at promoting automation thus by reducing

dependability on labour. It also aims at increasing the production

of the industry. Also using such arms the quality of product

increases due to reduced human intervention.
