Some type of technology that could be used to detect whether a person is ill or not can help regulate the rate of the virus and control it in a more timely fashion. My goal, as the biosecurity leader in our simulated epidemic, is to create the technology need to separate the ill from the well, only keeping the well and able in our new society. Once that system is perfected, if possible, it would be helpful, if a new type of technology or procedure was created in order to avoid getting ill and possibly get rid of the virus with minimal damage to the human body.- January 5, 2004, Vietnamese health authorities reported an unusual cluster of severe respiratory disease in 11 previously healthy children hospitalized in Hanoi; seven had died, and two were in critical condition- Two weeks later, on January 23, Thailand announced its first human cases of H5N1, two young boys. These cases were announced on the same day that a large outbreak at a poultry farm, affecting nearly 70,000 birds, was announced- Between December 30, 2003, and March 17, 2004, 12 confirmed human cases of H5N1 were reported in Thailand and 23 in Vietnam, with a total of 23 deaths.- 2004 totals in the two countries to 44, of which 32 were fatal.

Continued… (Ariana’s outline/need to know)The Medical aspect of this apocalypse is my role (research illnesses close to the outbreak made in our apocalypse). I will also be the nurse

throughout, all of ‘this’. I will be in charge of finding out how the spread of this flu initially started, and how it came to become such a huge ordeal.

I am researching researching the Avian Influenza (Bird Flu). “This virus is usually found in poultry, but however in recent sporadic cases has

been found in humans. Which ranges to mild and severe”. Avian Influenza A Virus Infections in Humans (Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention)This Spreads rapidly from one ill person to another.Avian Influenza A Virus Infections in Humans (Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention)Retrieved Nov. 15, 2015. I will have to use the Medical aspects (learning of flu and how to maintain it)Some things you may need to

know are Low Symptoms include: cough, sore throat, fever, muscle soreness. The Avian Flu can also be Referred to as H5N1. A few ways on

How to stop the influenza are “CDC currently recommends oseltamivir, peramivir, or zanamivir for treatment of human infection with

avian influenza A viruses. Analyses of available avian influenza viruses circulating worldwide suggest that most viruses are

susceptible to oseltamivir, peramivir, and zanamivir. However, some evidence of antiviral resistance has been reported in HPAI Asian

H5N1 viruses and influenza A H7N9 viruses isolated from some human cases. Monitoring for antiviral resistance among avian

influenza A viruses is crucial and ongoing”. This disease will have to highly monitored, and all hours of the day. Even after the

injection, just to make sure the following medicine does not leave a negative reaction. a negative reaction within a negative individual

can have different outcomes with each different individual. March, 15th 2015. Avian Influenza type A.The research I gathered

helped me get a large grasp on information of the Bird Flu ( Avian Influenza). I obtained a lot of new information of how this particular flu spread

throughout the years, from poultry to humans. How it became such a huge deal, among what started as poultry and very few humans, to a

rapidly spreading influenza amongst the human race. To tie this into my project I wanted to learn more about this influenza, mostly of how it

started in humans and how scientists/medical staff got it to stop. the answer was a Vaccine.

Need to know (Lexi)Avian influenza virus H5N1 used to be limited to poultry but is now being found in humans. Because of this outbreak, researches have admitted to a threat of pandemic in process.1. Recent reports state that the next outbreak may result in at least 2 to 7 million deaths. Avian influenza, or bird flu, is a virus that is highly contagious among wild birds and often fatal to domesticated birds and poultry.4. The H5N1 strain was first detected in humans in 1997. There are 3 types of this influenza, but 2 of the 3 types are found in humans.4. H5N1 has the ability to mutate quickly and has the ability to mix badly with other genes and viruses allowing it to spread to other animals until too many species are infected for the mankind to handle in a timely fashion. 4. It has been documented and proven that H5N1 has the ability to kill human beings. As outbreaks of H5N1 become more common, it becomes easier and easier for humans to be infected. This means that it is possible for infected humans to be carrying more than one strand. When more than one strand of Avian Influenza is in the same body, there is a chance for these strains to mix and create an unknown subtype. We currently don’t know the 0side effects of these possible mutations which make it harder to control the illness giving the ability to spread more rapidly.2. The first human case of H5N1 was found in Hong Kong in 1997. This was the first time it was proven that the virus can infect humans directly. In these cases, pneumonia was a direct side effect of the virus which became rapidly fatal. During this time, 18 cases were reported and 6 of the 18 cases were fatal. Since then, random breaks of the virus caused by various strains have been reported. Biosecurity is the practice of preventing disease entry or escape. These security measures include different sanitation procedures and new protocols to follow in order to try to ensure the safety of humans. Any breach in these biosecurity measures increases the possibility of a potentially fatal widespread epidemic.3. Hong Kong implemented several activities in an attempt to prevent and control the spread of H5N1: (1) preparing a pandemic preparedness plan, (2) conducting human and poultry surveillance programs, (3) stockpiling antiviral drugs for treatment and prophylaxis, (4) maintaining close liaison with WHO to stay aware of the development of pandemic influenza vaccine, and (5) raising public awareness of issues related to an influenza pandemic (UPI. Some type of technology that could be used to detect whether a person is ill or not can help regulate the rate of the virus and control it in a more timely fashion. Need to know (Paul) The avian influenza virus also known as (bird flu or H5N1) is a virus that is highly contagious among wild life birds and often found in poultry and birds. This virus used to only be found mostly in poultry but have now been found in humans. With this outbreak it is causing a serious process. It has been found that 2 to 7 million people have died from this influenza. (Global influenza program. (n.d). Retrieved November 16 2015). The majority of human cases of (H5N1) infection have been associated with direct or indirect contact with infected live or dead poultry. For countries that exported poultry and poultry products, additional losses are resulted from the short term loss of export markets and, longer term, the loss of market sharing with the other companies (other exporting countries may permanently share from countries that are temporarily affected by disease). There is no evidence that the disease can be spread to people through properly or improperly cooked meals or snacks. (Avian influenza. (2006). Retrieved November 19, 2015). There isn't just a one single type of this virus, it branches off into 3 different types, but it has been found that 2 out of the 3 have been discovered In a human body, and has the ability to kill the human beings. It just gets easier the more people get infected by the virus because then if not treated immediately it can spread human to human and once you have on strand in your body system, you are more than likely carrying more than one strand. The first case of the bird flu was a long time ago around 1997, in another country. This virus has the ability to mutate and to mix with other viruses allowing to to spread faster and to more animals. How the mind works while affected by this virus, by testing the intelligence of the mind you can figure out exactly what is going on and how it is acting the way it does. Doing the testing process you have to isolate the virus and it has to go over 50 screenings and other common tests (avian influenza diagnosing and testing. 2008, August.). Isolating the virus is an accurate confirming of the presence of a viable virus, it could really lead to the infection of other birds if not isolated properly. This testing is very sensitive and can move at a rapid speed when the process has started. The mind is acting as if the illness is the last thing that's going to happen to you, but in most cases it kills you. The symptoms of this are similar to as if you had a cold, resulting with sore throat, coughing, fever and in some cases it leads to pneumonia that requires hospitalization. It distresses the body and can cause organs to fail and make it harder to survive. The testing of this disease was created because of the way it acts towards the body, people had thought it was just simple cold but when hospitalized realized that it was much more serious than just a cold. This is a crucial role because without all the testing people could be dying for what they thought was just a "cold"

Page 8: Initial Proposal Ariana Gomez, Paulena Raczak, Andrea Fenner, and Lexi Mosher

Step by step1. Find a shelter/safe area to live

2. Find defense mechanisms, anything and everything

3. Find different types of plants that are useful for food, medicine, etc.

4. Find source of clean drinking water.

5. Teach others about the disease: how it happened, history related, how to avoid it, how to help others who are sick (if possible), how it affects the mind, etc.

6. Try to develop a strategy on how to avoid getting sick, and either heal people, or getting rid of the sick people and start a new civilization.

7. Find a way to avoid this outbreak ever happening again.

Final Product DescriptionWe will be be tying in all of our information into a comic book type theme. We will be incorporating all of our roles into images and little explanations. Like a literal comic book, starting from the beginning, to what happens, how the flu stops. How we move(d) on from it all.
