Hi!

How are you? It’s our Christmas holiday now.

Christmas time is very cold here. We spend the days in

the park playing with the snow.

On Christmas Eve all the family usually have dinner

together. We sing songs and we have fun. We always go

to bed really late! On Christmas Day, early in the

morning, we get up and open the presents under the

Christmas tree. Christmas days are my favourite days!

Things to see and do in New York

The skyscrapers

Everyone has seen pictures of the high buildings in Manhattan, the island inthe centre of New York. These very high buildings are called skyscrapers.

Since 1931, the highest building in the world is the Empire State Building. Itis 102 storeys high and there is a very good view of the city from the top.

Boat rides

The Statue of Liberty stands on a small island in New York Harbour. She was agift from the French in 1886. She’s welcoming immigrants to America. Boats takevisitors from Manhattan Island to the Statue of Liberty. There are stairs inside thestatue. Visitors can walk up the stairs to the head of the statue. They look outfrom there at the harbour.

There are also boat trips around Manhattan Island. Each trip takes about threehours. A guide tells you about the buildings, rivers and bridges during the ride.

New York’s parks

Central Park in Manhattan is used by thousands of New Yorkers and visitors everyday. Many of them like to walk in the park. Others like to ice-skate or go to the zoo.

In summer, lots of people go out in boats on the lake. Horses pull carriagesthrough the park. On summer evenings, there are outdoor concerts in the park.Many of Shakespeare’s plays are performed there too.
