Recently I was visiting a particular website online and I came across a phrase that I found rather alarming.

That is you don't need to be an expert in order to create an information product.

I want to talk about being an expert and whether in fact you can create an information product without needing to be an expert!

Perhaps one thing that puts people off in terms of creating an information product is that they feel or at least believe they don't know enough in order to create a product.

Perhaps they feel that they just don't have the level of knowledge necessary.

Often and I have found that this isn't really the case and that in fact people do have a lot of knowledge but they just don't know it.

For example suppose you wanted an information business in the computer software niche.

If a friend of yours asked you to explain something about a particular software or how to install it on their computer you would be able to explain to them exactly what to do and you might even help them and show them what to do.

However if someone then suggested that you create an information product explaining exactly what you could explain to your friends you might still believe you can't do it and you don't know enough!

And yet your friend went away happy having had their problem solved.

If you think about it creating an information product is creating information that solves a particular problem and if you can help friends and family solve problems in your niche then surely you are able to create a product helping other people solve the exact same problem.

Now if you think about why your friend asked you for your help in the first place you will realise the reason is because they consider you to be an expert, they know that you will be able to help them because you have the knowledge!

So I believe that you do need to be an expert in order to create information products and that if you stop to think about it you will realise that there are many things that you know about that the majority of people online don't know about it and are looking for help.

If you are able to provide that help for them to solve that problem then you are the expert as far as they are concerned.
