As a result, you gain a renewed spring in your step and push your- self further than you ever imagined possible. This week has been one of those for team SCOLA. My sincere thanks to all of you for working so hard and for the support you have shown each other. I have noticed the superb work of the LSS team (Learner Support Services) where they have covered the service whilst they had several team members unable to report for duty for a variety of reasons. A big thank you also to the Wallington Centre staff for stepping in and helping out when support was needed at the Sutton Centre. The DIS team (Department of Information Services) worked hard to get the latest data sets ready for the Self-Assessment Review workshop, and the Curriculum teams have continued the work we started back in July on reviewing the performance of the programmes over 2012-13 and planning the improvements we need to make in order to address any short comings identified and maintaining our many strengths in the form of our Quality Improvement Plans and our SAR. The MBIS (Marketing & Business Intelligence Service) have also been busy looking at ways to improve communication across the board with the use of some new technology. They are also planning many promotional events over the coming months, including an event at the SHINE Centre in November where we will introduce the SHINE Premium Club Membership which will provide bespoke and flexible support for new and growing businesses. PRINCIPAL’S POINT

If you ever play a team based sport, I am sure you resonate with times where despite all the challenges, you gain inspiration from seeing how everyone works towards the success of the team and in the process, shows care and support for each other. Principal’s Point cont.

This week I have also had the privilege of visiting many classes and welcoming students to SCOLA. I also met some of our new team members - new tutors who have joined SCOLA for the first time. What is most pleasing about it all, is the atmosphere of the College - the sound of laughter, the caring and encouraging comments, the re-assuring taps on shoulders, the look of confidence that, despite the myriad of challenges we are facing, we are one strong team determined to succeed. Keep up this attitude and maintain this level of positivity. We are at the beginning of one of our most challenging academic years in recent years and we would be wise to continue as we have commenced, with resolve to overcome difficulties and maintaining the care and support we show for all team members. Have a restful weekend. Saboohi Famili Principal

Thank you to all of you who sent me messages or popped in to see me regarding my mother who was taken ill on Wednesday. She is in good hands and being cared for. Your kindness has touched my heart. Saboohi Famili Principal

We have received the results of the Ofsted Learner Voice Survey that was carried out over 2012-13. The results speak for themselves. However, we are concerned that the take up of the survey was not as high as we would like it to have been. I hope that you can encourage students to take part during 2013-14. Amongst last year’s stats you can see that 100% of those who took part would recommend the course they were on to others and there was a high level of satisfaction across other areas such as quality of teaching, support and the appropriateness of the programme to their needs. We have not done very

well in two of the key areas important to Ofsted providing feedback and how students are assessed. Curriculum teams are encouraged to investigate these areas further and put in place actions to address these. You can see the full results which have been published above this edition of Inform.
