Overview This course focuses on the sociotechnical
issues in healthcare IT (information technology)
This implies we get to deal with the social aspects of healthcare – strategic planning, organizational and change theory, stakeholders – and also the technical issues – systems analysis, workflows, and implementation issues
A major challenge is integrating the needs of both social and technical areas in order to develop functional healthcare IT systems that serve real needs of how healthcare services are provided

The course readings are a herd of papers (32, to be exact) from 1999 to the present These papers are the basis for understanding most

Discussion participation
Week 1
The syllabus has guidance on discussion participation
I’m looking for your perspectives on the material Have you had similar or contrasting experiences?
Tell us! Are there parts of the readings that don’t make
sense to you? Ask for clarification! Do you think an author is wrong or misleading?
Explain why! The worst thing you can do is … nothing. We can’t
read your mind (and it would be really rude to do so even if we could), so please share your insights.
I’m guessing we’re coming from a wide range of perspectives, so the discussions should be lively!
