Choosing Classes

• During the IGP meeting, we will discuss class options for the following year. The classes discussed will be related to the student’s career interests, post secondary plans, and current performance.

• There are prerequisites for many courses. The prerequisites may be based on grades, test scores, and/or an application or audition process.

• Southwood Academy of the Arts advertises their audition dates. Those dates are discussed at IGP meetings if applicable.

• Anderson 5 Career Campus classes may have an application process. Several programs require and/or recommend continued enrollment for 3 years.

Post Secondary Plans

• Students should begin applying to college during Fall of their senior year.

• It is highly recommended that students visit various colleges throughout high school

to assist in making decisions related to their future.

• Student athletes that plan to play sports in college should register with the NCAA

Eligibility Center during 10th grade. Resources are available on the TLH Guidance

website and with the TLH Athletic Department.

Grading Scale

• Prior to 2016-2017, South Carolina used a 7 point grading scale that was weighted based on

the level of the course (CP, Honors, AP/College) and the specific numerical average (93, 94,

95… rather than “A”)

• Beginning 2016-2017, South Carolina has started using a 10 point grading scale which is also

weighted based on the level of the course and the specific numerical average.

• Grading rubrics and methods have adjusted to reflect the new grading scale

• Every point a student earns is calculated into their GPA. Every assignment is important!
