President’s
Column
Did you ever wonder if air rifle
competition for junior shooters even
exists in Indiana anymore? Well
wonder no more. The New Albany HS
Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training
Corps (NJROTC) recently won the 2018
Secretary of the Navy Precision Rifle
National Competition. The team is
ranked #1 in the nation out of 550
NJROTC Teams! Not to be outdone by
much, in 4th place in the same match was
Floyd Central HS, Floyds Knobs.
Special recognition goes to JROTC
shooter Jadelynn Kendall who shoots on
the Marion HS Army JROTC Team.
Although Jadelynn is not a
championship shooter yet, I’m betting
that with her determination she will be
someday. You see Jadelynn looks just
like the rest of us but as they say ‘looks
can be deceiving’ because when she was
only 5 years old because of a horrible
accident she lost one of her legs.
Quoting Jadelynn; “There’s been a lot,
most of it was relearning everything that
I had already leaned to do. That was
hard. But once I got the hang of it, it was
okay. Accepting the fact that it’s not
going to come back was hard too, but
once I accepted it, I felt a lot better.”
Now you know why, with an attitude
like that, I’m betting that someday she
will be a championship shooter.
Congratulations and hang in there
Jadelynn you can and will do it!
This speaks well of these kids who
take the time and put in the effort to
work at a sport and develop the skills to
end up as high in the ranking as these
two schools. I’m sure it would have
been much easier “to hang out” after
school rather than train. You say “‘I’d
love to be able to shoot every day” and
so would the rest of us but unless you
have ever shot on a real serious team
before you don’t realize that very
shortly it becomes almost like work. It
would be so much easier to just goof
around after school instead. In addition
to these two teams there are several
other middle and high school, 4-H,
American Legion, Boy Scout, and club
teams also competing; ISRPA has a
Postal Match for any and all interested
junior shooters. So, there are lots of
opportunities for kids to get out and
shoot.
Now you understand why ISRPA is so
focused on junior shooting activities
because without the junior shooting
sports the ISRPA has no future. The
juniors are our future, they are the ones
that have to carry on this association or
it will fade into oblivion. Last time I
reported that our MidwayUSA Junior
Shooting Endowment account was more
than $35,000 well now it is just over
$58,000. That’s after more donations
and a generous 2:1 match by Larry and
Brenda Potterfield and a 5% dividend,
amounting to $1,776, paid to the junior
account of ISRPA. This endowment
account will provide funds to support
junior shooting activities long after you
and I are gone.

Don’t know if you remember or not
but in 2016, Henry Repeating Arms
arranged a shoot at the Ben Avery
Range in Phoenix, AZ where 1000
Henry Rifles would be fired at the same
time. The rifles were Henry Golden
Boy Silver Models .22lr caliber and
were specially made and serially
numbered for this event. Just recently I
received a letter from NRA stating that
at least some of the rifles had been
donated by Henry to NRA who then
decided to donate one to each of the
State Associations for their use. ISRPA
did receive its rifle and it was decided to
raffle the rifle for a fund raiser for the
association. See flyer elsewhere in this
magazine. Once final arrangements are
made and tickets printed they will be
advertised on the ISRPA web-site and in
the ISSN Magazine. There will be only
200 tickets printed and sold at $20 each.
Don’t be bashful, be sure to get at least
one and just remember there is no limit
to the number you can purchase!

2018 marks the 50th full year of
operation for ISRPA. There are some
special enhancements being offered for
new memberships. See details
elsewhere in this magazine, also special
activities are being planned for the
Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet
see detailed information and date
elsewhere as well.
Take care, shoot well, and take at
least one young shooter to the
range this summer,

ISRPA PRESENTS
HENRY GOLDEN BOY SILVER RIFLE
ISRPA is proud to present a Henry Golden Boy Silver Commemorative Rifle as part of our 50th Anniversary celebration. This rifle
was part of the Henry Rifle venture held on November 14, 2016 at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, AZ. 1,000 freedom-
loving Americans joined together to set a firearms World Record, simultaneously firing 1,000 Henry Repeating Arms Golden Boy
Silver rifles. Following the event Henry Repeating Arms generously donated the custom engraved rifles to NRA, which is
donating one rifle to each State Association to raise funds for programs to uphold the Second Amendment. YOU have an
opportunity to own this rifle!
The Henry Golden Boy Silver rifle in .22LR is configured with
octagon barrel, American walnut stock, a fully adjustable Marbles
semi-buckhorn sight. The gun features a mirror-bright nickeled
receiver cover, matching barrel band and buttplate. The Henry
Golden Boy Silver for the 1,000 Man Shoot comes custom with a
1,000 Man Shoot commemorative logo and Allen case, making it
one of a kind or,

LEGISLATIVE REPORT By Bill Dowden, Legislative Director
With a strong
majority of “pro-gun”
legislators going into
the 2018 session of
the Indiana General
Assembly, the
prospects of favorable
legislation looked
very good. However, the results were
disappointing. As in past sessions, the House
of Representatives basically killed any good
firearms legislation.
Again this year, Representative Lucas from
Seymour introduced a “constitutional carry”
bill which was referred to the Public Policy
committee – it was not even afforded a hearing,
and died in committee.
Senator Jack Sandlin introduced a very
reasonable bill which would have allowed a
properly licensed worshipper to carry a firearm
during a church’s worship service being
conducted in or on school property when
school is not in session. It passed with
overwhelming support in the Senate and sent
to a House committee, which so messed up the
bill that it never became law.
As the session was entering its final weeks,
the tragic Florida school shooting occurred,
and the outcry against guns was almost
deafening. Unfortunately, such events fit the
scenario described by then - Presidential Chief
of Staff Emanuel as “… a good crisis...”
which should not go to waste. In this case, the
adult anti-second amendment leaders
shamelessly use the victims and children to
support the media generated hysteria against
private ownership of firearms. Responsible
gun owners, such as we have here in Indiana,
find the heinous actions of a few reprehensible
and certainly share the grief of the victims and
their families.
In the face of misinformed (or malicious)
attacks on the objects called “guns,” every
Hoosier who lawfully owns a shotgun, a pistol,
or a rifle, should be defending his/her inherent
right to keep and bear arms. They should also
be actively determining if a particular
officeholder or candidate who claims to
support the 2nd Amendment will actually, and
unequivocally, publicly support that
constitutionally protected right.
For information on legislative action go the
website: iga.in.gov.
To get complete information on candidates in
this year’s primary and general elections go to
the Secretary of State’s website: sos.in.gov.
ISRPA Annual Meeting
and Awards Banquet
Saturday, November 3
We are excited to announce that the Riviera Club in
Indianapolis will be the venue for the ISRPA 50th
Anniversary Annual Meeting and Awards
Banquet! Established in 1933, The Riviera Club
offers an outstanding venue centrally located and easy
to access in Indianapolis, with plenty of off street
parking, outstanding food options prepared by the
Executive Chef and Catering Staff, and a cash bar.
There will be a Board and Members meeting in the
afternoon, followed by the Awards Banquet in the
evening. Look for more details at any of the ISRPA
events and State Championships during the season, on
the website and in the ISSN magazine as the season
unfolds. If you’ve never been to an Annual Awards
banquet, this is the year to attend! If you’ve been
before, expect a great time!

Women’s Corner
By Linda Levan, V-P Women of the ISRPA
According to the NRA,
there are 5 basic
fundamentals of pistol
shooting: Stance, Grip, Aim,
Trigger Control, and Follow
Through. In an ideal world,
you would have complete
control over each of these
actions. But the human body grows, thrives, and ages. It is
always in motion. Even in a resting state, your body generates
enough wattage to run a bright, old-fashioned light bulb,
around 60-100 watts!
There is no single prime age for the human body, the “twenty-
something” human is a body that may, in many ways, never be
better in terms of physical capability. And most Nobel Prize
discoveries are made before 40.
But what about those of us who are past our 40s? Experience
and wisdom make up for a lot of physical deteriorations,
allowing mental skills such as arithmetic, comprehension and
social reasoning to keep improving well into middle age.
But what about a physical attribute which is critical to
accurate shooting, like good vision?
The natural aging and eye-deterioration process can affect
either or both short-range and/or long-range aiming and
sighting and our other shooting activities. Some of the changes
the eye undergoes with the passage of time include presbyopia,
cataracts, floaters, age-related macular degeneration (ARMD),
systemic disease, and medication side effects. Increased blur,
decreased contrast sensitivity, pupil size, and reaction times all
add difficulties to the task of safe and accurate shooting.
What can you do? Try vision therapy exercises specific to
reaction speed, hand-eye coordination, and peripheral
awareness. Wear tinted lenses. Use magnification (scopes) to
achieve a high level of success despite a reduction in vision.
Undergo cataract surgery to clear vision, or try optical
corrections to restore clarity of the front sight. Many who are
considered blind are still able to enjoy the sport of shooting.
One approach has been the use of auditory cues in the form of
tones played through a headphone; as the shooter aims, the
tone changes as the center of the target is “sighted.”
Most importantly, practice. Take advantage of both dry fire
and range time. Your vision may change and your techniques
may have to be modified, but your accuracy should remain on
target!

2018 INDIANA STATE JUNIOR
RIFLE CHAMPIONSHIPS
A Record Breaking Event
The X Count, Fort Wayne
March 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, & 18 By Diane Rice, Director-NE
This year’s match was like no other. First, there was a
new venue. By coaches consensus the match was
moved to The X Count in Fort Wayne where athletes
had the opportunity to compete on the Megalink
electronic targets. Spectators from around the country
were able to watch their perspective athletes compete
online. Due to the popularity of the new venue the
previous attendance record of 214 was shattered as 267
athletes converged on Fort Wayne. Athletes form 16
different programs from three states traveled hundreds
of miles to compete. Jerry Thomas Director-SE and the
Hoosier Hills team made their inaugural visit to the
championship match. Nine records were broken
including all four team records and multiple individual
records. Big changes were made in International Air to
align the match more closely to the Olympic and
Collegiate Matches including changing teams from
three to four-man teams and the change from forty to
sixty shots. Team and aggregate individual results are
listed below. For a complete listing of results including

NRA Certified Instructors. The campers will learn Basic Rifle,
Pistol, and Shotgun safety and skills. All firearms and
ammunition are provided for the campers and made possible
from grant from FNRA. Michigan City Rifle Club provides all
meals for the campers and workers. Again, we will have
involvement from local police departments with K9
demonstrations and displays of police equipment. The camp

RIMFIRE CHALLENGE
Michigan City Rifle Club continues to host rimfire challenge
shoots the 2nd Saturday of each month. This is very fast
growing sport! Anyone with a .22 semi-auto rifle and pistol
are welcome to compete – provided that they have five (5)
magazines for each platform. The events have grown steadily
to more than 30 competitors each month. Commencing in
April, the matches will be moved outdoors. This is a fun and
fast paced sport designed for novice and advanced
shooters. This is a true family event! We are drawing
shooters from IN, IL, OH, IA, and WI
The July Shoot is sanctioned by the newly formed Rimfire
Challenge Shooting Association (RCSA). We are anticipating
60 competitors. We have a number of prizes donated by the
likes of RUGER, TANDEMKROSS, VOLQUARTSEN, STEEL PAINT,
and MIDWAY USA. For additional information, contact: Pete
Swenson 630-670-6455 or [email protected]
