The Selfish Ladybird is the tale of Lucinda the ladybird who lives in a beautiful country garden surrounded by many other creatures. Lucinda has a secret which she will not share with the other ladybirds. Finding she has no friends because of her selfishness, she seeks advice from the other garden creatures and from Woody, the wise old oak tree. She learns that sharing is the key to making friends and keeping them.

The Year 2 Staff are extremely proud of the huge amount of hard work and effort that each child put into both learning their lines and actions and practising. The result was a truly fantastic and uplifting performance.

Year 8 Post Common Entrance Programme

With the country in the grip of election fever the Yateley Manor community held their own election. Year 7 formed three new political parties and each was asked to produce a manifesto covering the issues of education, health, welfare, environment and defence and to set a budget for how they would spend £400 billion of tax payers’ money on these five areas. In assembly on Thursday the parties presented their manifesto to the school community. Year 7s impressed with their confidence in delivery, their presentation and the passion they had in what they were saying.

Polling booths for each year group from Year 3 to Year 6 were set up around the school and the children all had the opportunity to vote during break-time with some of the Year 6 children acting as election officials. The Life Party consisting of the new Prime Minister, Jonathan McFall and his team: Ella Cox, Maddy Gough, Matty Knowles, Yaseen Subhan and Caitlin Watthey were duly elected. Very well done to the winning party and to all the Year 7s. Thank you to Year 6 for their work and to everyone who voted.

Yateley Manor Election

Year 8 finished their final exams this week and are now embarking on their exciting post Common Entrance programme. The next four weeks until the end of term are packed with physical and sporting events, drama, cookery and workshops designed to give them new life skills to take with them on the next stage of their educational journey.

Physical activities include this Friday’s watersports day at Horseshoe Lake and an action packed Bushcraft Week where they will undertake a variety of adventure and team building activities and, of course, Sports Day. The group will spend an intense week rehearsing and preparing for a performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth which will be presented to parents on the Friday evening.

Visiting speakers will guide the children through workshops on E Safety and the British Board of Film Classification.

They also have some first aid training, a cookery session and writing stories for a Pre-Prep child. A fun activity evening completes the programme.

In between all these events, Year 8 will be completing their Yateley Manor Award log books to earn their bronze, silver or gold awards.

The Post Common Entrance programme is the culmination of Year 8s’ time at Yateley Manor and complements their hard work both academically and within the School community. We look forward to celebrating all that they have achieved at our end of term Speech Day.

Please could all children who took part in the sponsored swim hand their sponsorship money to Tristan Morris by Friday 16th June. Thank you.
