It could simply mean looking directly at a cashier and smiling; accepting that there is often more than one right answer, or even conced- ing your preferred answer. It could mean patiently listening to Grandma repeating the same stories in an endless loop; refraining from political bullying and looking for realistic compromise; anonymously mowing your overwhelmed neighbor’s yard rather than complaining; or sacrificing what is best for you in the interest of the greatest common good. Whenever we share love, it is multiplied in our hearts, our lives and the world. We create the atmosphere for enduring peace to thrive. In their pastoral letter, The Challenge of Peace: God’s Promise and Our Response, the U.S. Conference of Catho- lic Bishops clarify, “Peacemaking is not an optional commit- ment. It is a requirement of our faith. We are called to be peacemakers, not by some movement of the moment, but by our Lord Jesus” (#333). There is both blessing and re- sponsibility in Christ’s love. Jesus unconditionally gives us his love, so we can know and grow in love. The gift we have been given is meant to be shared so that others can know and grow in peace. Where and how are you as a Christian being called to share your love and promote the peace of Christ in our world today? Fr. Leo taken from CELEBRATION

In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus promises, “Peace I

leave with you; my peace I give to you. ”Peace? What does Jesus mean by that? What can we do as Christians to make peace when we find ourselves trapped in division and tur-moil? In his priceless wisdom, Jesus gives his love freely and encourages us to invite his Spirit of love to dwell in our hearts. If we live in that love, we will be transformed into the peace Christ promises.

What might that look like for you? It could simply mean looking directly at a cashier and smiling; accepting that there is often more than one right answer, or even conced-ing your preferred answer.

Conference of Catho-lic Bishops clarify, “Peacemaking is not an optional commit-ment. It is a requirement of our faith. We are called to be peacemakers, not by some movement of the moment, but by our Lord Jesus” (#333). There is both blessing and re-sponsibility in Christ’s love. The early church struggled with a com-mon problem: who was in and who was not. The requirements were related to the cultural and religious practices of Jewish converts. Similar questions plague us to this day regarding who be-longs in our country, our neighbor-hoods, our schools, even our church. The answers are easily found in Jesus’ call to keep his word of love and peace. You would think we would have figured it out by now, but tribalism runs deep.

WHY DO I GIVE?

I give because I am ashamed not to. Would you give less if no one knew or cared how much you gave? Is so, you are probably giving more to satisfy your own pride than to please God. Remember that even if no one knows or cares how much you give, God does.

I give to pay for the things that I receive. It is true that much of what you give the church is needed to pay for the things the church offers you - place to wor-ship, a program of Christian education, pastoral care. But if your giving stops here it is hardly Christian. Any honest person will pay for what one receives.

I give to provide things for others. This is better. Your gift helps to bring the gospel to the lost & minister to those in need around the world. Yet without God’s blessing all of our gifts would accomplish nothing.

I give because I am a Steward. This is the real reason for giving. You give because every-thing you have belongs to God. God has given good gifts to you to use in His service for the benefit of all human-kind.

I want to give because God first gave to me. I am grateful to God who loved me enough to send His Son to save me. Because I love God I want to dedicate myself & all I have to the Lord.

Scheduled Second Collections: 5/26 - School Support
