PRAYER REQUESTS:

(334) 887-8783

Week of JANUARY 20, 2020

Dear Lakeview Family,

All of us will agree that last words are significant.

We often associate last words with family members

gathered at the bedside of a loved one. Yet there

have never been last words as weighty as those spo-

ken by Jesus while nailed to a cruel Roman cross.

Jesus was not silent on the cross. The gospels

record him speaking seven times. In these words

we hear his heart of mercy and compassion for

guilty humanity. Even though two thousand years

have passed since the Lord Jesus spoke from the

cross, we are wise to hear them again in the 21st

century. In order to enable us to hear these words

with fresh spiritual ears, I am going to preach a

series of sermons on the “Seven Sayings of the

Savior on the Cross” on Sunday evenings. We will

follow this schedule:

JAN 26 | The Prayer of Forgiveness

“Father, forgive them for they do not know what

they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)

FEB 02 | The Promise of Paradise “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in

paradise.” (Luke 23:43)

FEB 09 | The Announcement of Affection “Dear woman, here is your son...here is your mother.”

(John 19:26-27)

FEB 16 | The Cry of Separation “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

(Mark 15:34)

FEB 23 | The Word of Suffering “I am thirsty.” (John 19:28)

MAR 01 | The Shout of Victory “It is finished.” (John 19:30)

MAR 15 | The Declaration of Commitment “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”

(Luke 23:46)

Even if you do not normally worship God on Sunday

evenings, I urge you to hear these messages. You will

gain a deeper appreciation of God’s great love and of

Jesus’ awful sacrifice to purchase our salvation.

FUTURE GLORY: THE BEST IS YET TO BE

We lived in a sin-cursed world filled with ecological

disasters on one hand and broken bodies on the

other. Fear and despair characterize multitudes of

people. They wonder if there is any hope for a better

future.

The apostle Paul addresses this very issue in

Romans 8:16-27. There he writes, “I consider that

our present sufferings are not worth comparing with

the glory that will be revealed” (v. 18). Someday this

world will be transformed at the return of the Lord

Jesus Christ. I look forward to proclaiming this text

to you this Sunday morning, January 26, with a

message titled “Future Glory: The Best Is Yet To Be.”

Jesus is Lord,

Al Jackson

COLLEGE MINISTRY & SENIOR SAINTS VALENTINE’S BANQUET

Our students are excited about our upcoming annual Lakeview

College Ministry & Senior Saints Valentine’s Banquet! Senior

Saints, please mark your calendars and join us on Thursday,

February 6th at 5:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. This is one of

our favorite events of the year because of the sweet fellowship

that takes place across the generations of our church family.

Our students are already making preparations to make this

a wonderful event. Senior Saints, please contact Lena Sollie to

RSVP. You can find her information in your Sunday school

class announcements! We hope to see you there.

SOUND BOOTH HELP

Lakeview has an incredible team of sound booth volunteers

who run the media on Sundays to enhance the services here

at Lakeview. There is a need for a few more volunteers to

rotate helping on Sundays. We are in need of 1 more person

to help with the main projection computer and 1 more person

to help with the lights and camera. If you are interested in

joining our Sunday media team, please email me at

[email protected] or call me in the church office and

we can talk more about what those positions entail. No previous

experience is needed; we can train you.

DO YOU KNOW ABOUT AMAZON SMILE?

Did you know that you can help support Women’s Hope

Medical Clinic simply by shopping online? If you have an

Amazon Prime account, you can add an Amazon Smile account

that will send money to a charitable organization of your choice

as you shop online. Lee County’s Women’s Hope Medical Clinic

is one of those charitable options. If you haven’t already, go to

Amazon Smile today and get started supporting this incredibly

strategic ministry in our community.

SAFETY TRAINING

We are offering a 3-week course to help you with your personal

security and safety here at home, and as you travel.

Topics include, but are not limited to situational awareness,

reducing exploitability, residential security, carjacking,

information security, travel security, hotel security, natural

disaster, hostage taking, and hostile interrogation and more.

This class is open to anyone regardless if you are going on a

mission trip this year or not.

DATES: Sundays, February 16 – March 1

TIME: 4:30 – 5:30 PM

WHERE: Rooms N208-209

ESL HELP NEEDED

Dear Lakeview Family,

Due to schedule changes and some volunteers moving away,

we have vacancies in several of our Conversational English

classes. We need children’s workers to assist in classes for 5 to

7 year olds and 8 to 12 year olds. We also need teachers and

teacher’s assistants in the Basic Adult Class and in Advanced

Adult classes. We need people to help work in registration, in

interviewing new students and in the hospitality area.

We need people with various spiritual gifts so would you

prayerfully consider helping minister to our international

friends? We meet on Wednesday nights from 6:00 until 8:00

PM. If the Lord is calling you to help in this vital and exciting

ministry, please call me at the church office at 334-887-7094 or

email me at [email protected]. If I am unavailable,

please talk to my secretary, Mrs. Pat Wilson. I would be

delighted to talk with you!

MULTIPLY GROUPS

Multiply groups are groups that meet for 10 weeks starting the first

week of February. These groups function as a team who focus on

making disciples. Email Samuel at [email protected]

to learn how to join a group. There are different days and

meeting times available.

FOOD PANTRY

Early every Monday morning, people suffering from food

receive good quality food, but they also receive spiritual food.

Please pray for all our workers each Monday and especially

those who share the gospel. Thank you, Food Pantry team, for

loving those in need.

What will Heaven be like? What will we look like? What will we

do? Will Heaven be boring? These questions and many more will

be answered during seven weeks of interactive Bible study on

Sunday afternoons at 4:45 PM beginning January 26 in Rooms

N105-106. Randy Alcorn’s book, Heaven, has revolutionized my

thinking about heaven and has made me long for Heaven even

more. I pray that will be the case for you too. We will use a

workbook and short videos in our course. Please email

[email protected] to register. Come and purchase your

workbook ($5) ahead of time if possible.—Tom
