Head’s Lines  MANY CONGRATULATIONS

OWEN MAITLAND-WILSON received his Prefect Badge and Tie in Assembly last week. CONOR MCKALL won the SE Region Gymnastics Tournament last weekend. This is a fantastic

achievement and he was presented with his shield and medal in Assembly on Monday. CHLOE BROPHY and TOM PARKER took part in a local judo competition at the weekend. They

both won a bronze medal and Chloe won the ‘Spirit of Judo Award’ in her group. CHILDREN IN NEED

We celebrated OLIVIA HELLER’S and LEAH DE WET’S success in the Na-tional Design a Christmas Stamp Competition this morning with official presentations made by the royal Mail. The school council then talked about Children in Need accompanied by a wonderful Pudsey video.

Many thanks to all the children and parents for your support of Children in Need. Friday break time in the Prep School saw cake sales, toy sales, challenges and many more stalls. Well done to everyone involved.

Last Sunday OLIVER PHILLIPS (Head Boy) and NINA HARMAN (Head Girl) laid a wreath on behalf of the School at the Tunbridge Wells Remembrance Service.

INSPECTION Our School Inspection concludes today (Friday). Thank you to the many parents who completed the questionnaire. A reminder that the Report should be with us in 4 weeks time and will be sent to all parents. As a result of recent changes in legislation, I am required to inform you that the following policies are availa-ble in the office should you wish to see them:

tional language Curriculum policy Policy to promote good behaviour and set out sanctions Anti-bullying strategy and health and safety provision Academic performance during the preceding school year, including the results of any public exami-

nations Complaints procedure, and the number of complaints registered under the formal

procedure during the preceding school year The number of staff at the school, including temporary staff, and a summary of their

The PA have purchased outdoor seating and an Olive tree for the Quad which is already being enjoyed daily by the children. Ladies Shopping Evening A huge thank you to those who came along to our first ever RHPA Shopping Evening last Thursday, 7th November. The evening was a great success - many of the stallholders have commented on what a lovely atmosphere there was – and it was great that so many of you were unwilling to leave at the end! The evening raised £120.00 for chYps – the Children’s Hospice. Christmas Fair We are now looking forward to the Christmas Fair on Saturday 30th November. Thank you for all your hard work on the stalls already - don’t forget to start planning your baking! Full details to follow in next week's newsletter.

Y7 trip to Eastbourne College and the Towner Gallery… a piece of cake!

Last Thursday Mrs Moore and Mr izzard took Year 7 on a trip to Eastbourne College and the Towner Gallery. We left part way through our third lesson in the morning for a long journey down to Eastbourne. When we arrived at Eastbourne College they gave us lunch – ‘Jollof Rice’ (similar to chicken paella) and then we walked down to the Towner Gallery.

The first thing we saw was the work of a Japanese performance and installation artist, Chiharu Shitoa, called 'The Other Side'. It was a room full of woven wool with 5 doors of people's houses leading into pathways on the other side. Whilst we were waiting for our guide, we all were wan-dering in and out of the doors. The guide talked to us about it and we all drew sketches from different views in our books.

We then watched a video clip - a fast playing version of the 10 days it took to make.

'Wonderland' was an exhibition of many different artists work; there were some sculptures, paintings, drawings and photos. This exhibition had a theme of illusions or images that made you specu-late about their meaning. There was one extraordinary one, a projected thin line. This was to make it look like a door on a wall when it was in fact just a plain wall.

Back at Eastbourne College we put on our creative hats. We separated into two rooms and put on aprons. We found out that we were going to make a container in the shape of a slice of cake. We had a talk and then began with cutting out the correct size of clay for each part of the slice. We had a quick demonstration about joining the parts of the clay together. We started to join the two main parts of the cake together using the method of score and split (like glue); we then put on more split to make the ‘Jam'. We then started to decorate the cake and lid using coloured split and clay cutters of many shapes and sizes.

We left our cake slices behind as Eastbourne College kindly said they would fire them for us.

We would all like to say a big thank you to Mrs Moore and Mr lzzard for taking us on a wonderful trip as well as a thank you to Eastbourne College and the Towner Gallery.
